I was just looking at the kyree and thought how similar they are to the Companions (or leshy'a'kalenedral, for that matter) Of course this would make sense because clan k'Leshya of the Kal'enal did worship their gods, and when the clans split, the Star-Eyed would remember the society of her worshipers (wouldn't she?) Savil took 'Lendel to the breaking point in order to diffuse his anger and rage over the situation. She was concerned that he might attack her, but *he never did*!! Her concern that he might have is not evidence against him, at least IMO. In another post, Sean also wrote: > What I > considered evil was how Tylendel had unshakeable faith in Staven who > had evil tendencies. He was misguided and caught up in some very extreme emotions, and wasn't thinking clearly. But I don't really see how this is evil. Okay, it was wrong to have blind faith in Staven and not to think of Vanyel, but *evil*? I think that's way too strong a word. Cennydd wrote: > 'Lendel > loosed a wyrsa hunting pack on group of innocent party-goers and > almost drained Van to death in a quest for revenge. What is that, > if not evil. His anguish, grief, anger, and hatred pushed him over the edge into insanity and he became evil. While I agree with you, Sean, that Tylendel was evil by the end, I don't think he was throughout his life. On the subject of 'Lendel's suicide, Danya wrote: > In that sense, 'Lendel blew it on two > counts: He had both his Companion and a lifebonded to help him face > that pain and move past it, and he refused to see that as an option. > He saw the death of his twin as an ending in his life that he could > not get past and totally missed the future that Van represented. While he was unable to see the help Van could be, he did *not* have his Companion. By the time 'Lendel suicided, Gala had repudiated him and then gotten killed protecting the innocents at the party, and thus, suiciding herself. And I think it was this, even more than the death of his brother, that caused 'Lendel to kill himself. On the subject of suicide, I have just one thing to say. To those of you who've mentioned contemplating killing yourselves, let me say I"m **very** glad you chose not to!! This weird family we have here wouldn't be the same without you--I love you guys, and I'm extremely glad that you're still here!! No, I don't think it's evil or sinful--there are times when it is, or seems like, the only option, the last resort. I understand, and I sympathize. But I'm glad you chose to remain here!! Remember that he had just been terribly wounded by the death of his twin, which he felt. No he wasn't exactly sane, but can you blame him? He wanted the Leshara to hurt, to feel what he felt. He wanted them to know exactly what they had done. Although i would've focused on Evan Leshara and anyone else who had given the assasination order to Krebain, 'Lendel wan't thinking clear enough to make any sort of distinction. Van told 'Lendel he could borrow his energy. He understood 'Lendel's need for revenge. Probably because fo the situation at Forst Reach, he knew what it felt like to want to make someone hurt as badly as you that you would do anything to make them pay. 'Lendel wasn't evil, he was trying to cure an irreplaceable loss. Somehow I don't think that just watching them hang or whatever would have been enough reparation for him. And you know romantics (which go along with fantasy, a lot) either think the world is really great, or it's completely black. Be happy that you couldn't have gone through with it. Going halfway and realizing it's a mistake is worse.... *serious grin* > I kept wondering what my family and friends would do if I died, and I'm >still here! It ought to be required reading for the LotPW -- along with Ecstasia, which no one will listen to me and read, goshdarnit. What about Paulo? Isn't he GOOD ENOUGH for you people??? Rafe probably doesn't fit the criteria, since he's a straight guy who just happens to be crazy in love with Paulo. And frankly, I never thought Stef and Tylendel were very much alike. I found Tylendel a trifle dull -- nice guy, but more Vanyel's Friend than his own character. Now Stef was cool. (The only time I got really mad at him was when he started apologizing to Vanyel for his sex life. But then I've said before, I think Misty is pretty down on sex in general.) She has three series: the Exile Books (The Many-Colored Land, The Golden Torc, The Nonborn King, and Adversary), the Intervention Books (Surveillance, Metaconcert), and the Milieu Series (Jack the Bodiless, Diamond Mask, and Magnificat). Sorry to be off-topic! RE: Monarch's Own. During the LHM, wasn't Taver the Monarch's Own Companion? I seem to remember that was Shavri's Companion's name. So, where did Rolan come from? RE: Bardic Voices. I think Alanda is the name of the world of the Bardic Voices - not Velgarth. I also don't know where they would fit in Twenty Kingdoms in the Eastern Empire. RE: Talia's and Selaney's maternity leaves: I think being Queen's Own and Queen is more of like who they are - not "jobs" as such. Certainly, their roles can be modified to suit their needs. After all, Talamir was quite old before he died - so they must have had someone else to send in the difficult or strenuous situations. Also, since Talia is the ranking herald behind the Queen, it would make a lot more sense to safeguard her - I remember when Elspeth was renouncing her position as Heir to the Throne, she said something about "being Heir, she was not allowed to put herself into jeopardy." (Which explains why she was allowed to roam around, virtually unescorted looking for a mage-teacher, right?). Talia's role seems a lot more like someone who gets sent on diplomatic missions and keeps the Queen on track. RE: Tylendal/Stefan. I *definitely* prefer Stefen. Tylendal was way too selfish for me. I understand how much he grieved, and how hurt he was. But I don't understand why he would turn away from Savil, his friends, and his Companion, not to mention Vanyel, just for revenge - especially when he seemed so nice. Of course, since Stefen is a musician, I'm bound to like him best. :-) But, he also seems to be one of Misty's more realistic characters - not all good, not all evil, somewhat opportunistic, as least at the start. His progress toward altruism is very subtle - she doesn't whack us over the head with it. RE: Suicide. As to the good/evil, who knows? But it seems to me that people who are suicidal are in situations that seem like they will never get better, they will never feel better, and that they just can't stand it any longer. In their minds, true or not, no one really understands or cares, and if they *do* understand or care, they just can't help! This may be totally wrong, of course... just what I've observed. Best wishes to Sal for a speedy recovery! Lady Sophia, trillng away Goddess of Song and Music PS. I forgot - I think I qualify as a member of the Ladies of the Pink Wand! About ten years ago, I attended a production of "The Marriage of Figaro," and immediately got a crush on the young, handsome, man playing the Count! His acting was so good, he *completely* convinced me that he was interested in women! Imagine how crushed I was (at the age of 18), to discover that this gorgeous guy was actually shay'a'chern! JANICE! Welcome! Welcome to the Misty Mailing List. Do you have your hard hat on? Good. Watch for falling posts. Keep your hands INSIDE the vehicle at all times and the seatbelt SECURELY fastened. Do not get up until the list comes to a complete stop. We are talking about nothing in particular, because we are waiting for Misty to write a new book! *grin* So we spend the time picking on each other. Any how, greetings again!
