I really hate to get into a lingistics argument with someone in lingistics, but... According to "Egyptian Language: Early Lessons in Egytian Hieroglyphics" by Sir E. A. Wallis Budge (long since deceased) hieroglyphics started as picture writing but over time took on true phonetic values. Hieroglyphics are the equivalent of modern printed headline type fonts. The scribes used a cursive form called 'Hieratic'. Coptic is a dialect Egyptian and is writen with Greek characters with the addition of 6 Demotic derived characters. I'm pretty much quoting from Budge here. I agree with whomever said that her work lately has been falling off - too much description, weak plots, lack of "finish." I did very much enjoy The Fire Rose (although I wish there'd been more details on the nature of Magick!), but WG, SG - ugh! I've also been enjoying the Mage Storms books, although parts of SRising are slooowww. The Bardic Voices books really disappointed me, as I think I mentioned before... all of these interesting issues were being explored in the Lark and the Wren, but then the books turned into murder mysteries! The Symphonic recording, my over-all favorite, has a Japanese Eponine on it...and from what is said in the booklet, I have the feeling they taught her how to sing the lyrica in english, but she really doesn't *no* them..there's an emotional level missing from the 3-cd that's on the 2. But with the orchestra, the rest of the cast (though I don't particurlarily like the Cossette either), and the fact it's the full musical....it's better. I saw the musical once when it was on tour in in Tampa, but the first, and best time, was in London...btw, bewarned. On the 3-CD, it's a diff. Jean Valjean than Colm Wilkinson, and, while imo he sings as well, he sings it diff. and times it diff. SO it takes awhile to get used to it when you're used to another recording. I'm currently anxiously awaiting the musical to come out on VHS, as it's already on laser disc... Obmisty: WHat kind of theater is there on Velgarth? I just finished the Ender trilogy (which is obviously not a trilogy anymore if _Children of the Mind_ is out, but excuse the sloppy phrasing just this once ... not! *laugh*) and the Tanya Huff Quarter trilogy (I reread the first) and Paula Volsky's _Wolf of Winter_ (now all I have to do is buy _Gates of Twilight_ and-or whatever else her newest book is...) and I think that's enough for one person in the amount of time I've had.
