Here's a little announcement for anyone that lives within driving distance of the Pennsyvania Rennassiance Faire. On Saturday, August 31st Tensen (along with someothers), Julia Lynn, and myself are going to be attending the Renn Faire. Anyone else who wishes to join us is quite welcome. The Faire runs from 10am until 6pm. If anyone wishes to meet us there please e-mail me at mishi-+AT+-prolog.net and let me know and I will get you more information if you need it. One more thing, this is to everyone on the list. I am inviting anyone interested to attend the first annual Misty Virtual Renn Faire. I am not quite sure of the date of the start of the Faire, I have to do a little more brainstorming but if anyone is interested again e-mail me privately and let me know you are interested. Wait I lied this is the last thing. I am sorry about the delay on the keychains (if you don't know what I am talkong about e-mail me privately, again). A few problems arose here and I did not have time to work on them. I will be working on them this weekend and I plan to do a lot so they will get to you all soon. Well gotta go!! Welcome to the list!!! :-) PSS I am not goign to be home this weekwnd so if anyone sends anything to me, wait until at least Monday before you wonder why I didn't answer. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Aug 1996 11:22:26 -0500 From: "Ramona Winkelbauer [SERA]" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Talking to self (Was Re: Braid: Xena/reading in Message-ID: Diana L. I don't know why it was an odd question, but the answer was about what I thought. I also did some fast research on Ethnologue and found out that they are indeed related to the Khmer. Khmu is a Northern Mon-Khmer language and belongs to the Mal-Khmuic branch. There are about 340,000 speakers located in Thailand, Laos, Viet Name, China, France, and the US. But I agree with you that there is something about Van that was a bit odd. There is a line in MPrice that you quote: Vanyel could 'feel' every Herald and Herald-Mage in Haven, all tied to him by a kind of tenuous network of lines of life-energy with identitity as plain to him as if he could see the faces. Most Herald-Mages could follow the line of anyone who had shared magic with them; Vanyel could follow the line of anyone who had "shared magic" just by virtue of being a Herald This was something I was going to mention (I was reviewing this passage yesterday, and it bothered me). Why did Van have this connection to all the other Heralds? Van makes some remark about needing an especially strong Gift to detect the network between the Herald's, but that really doesn't explain why he would be the *only* one to see it. After all, there were others, such as Savil, who were probably more sensitive to subtle magics. -----EOM On Thu, 22 Aug 1996, Ramona wrote: >>>Are you talking about when Vlad is killed and then revivified?<<< Yep. -----EOM On Fri, 23 Aug 1996, notre Ami wrote: BOM>>>Subject: Delurk >>>WHile I have to thank Danya for sharing her knowledge of SB with those of us less fortunate, i could scream.<<< I have...several times! =) Seriously, it is bad enough that I probably won't be able to afford the hard-back when it comes out, and will have to wait for the paperback release, but this pre-release spoiling is getting just a bit annoying. -----EOM On Fri, 23 Aug 1996, SummerSong wrote: BOM>>>Subject: Braid:T&K comics/Montalbon&TVGuide/PStewart/T&K&W/MZB's rhino/What [re: the lesbian priestesses with purple rhinos] >>>I'd like to read that, too. Anyone know if Sharon Shinn is going to publish anything new soon? Or Charles De Lint? And does anyone know of any other fantasy authors who use music in their writing? (Authors I have read include: Misty (of course!), MZB, Melissa Scott, Charles De Lint, Patricia Kennealy-Morrison, Teresa Edgerton). Private e-mail welcomed! Thanks! Lady Silvermoon Your right that the series isn't has good as Misty's books, but it is a good series. I liked the first book better than the second & third though. I'd love to see Vanyel as a Personality in that game My reply: I started with ST:TNG, got the Alternate Universe expansion (need Future Enterprise to have a complete set); then got started on Magic: The Gathering - am working on 4thEd, Ice Age, Homelands, Fallen Empires, Alliances and Chronicles (and they have Mirage coming up in October ); have restrained myself to 2 started decks of Star Wars; but have gotten suckered into Vampire: The Masquerade along the way, with Dark Soverigns and Ancient Hearts. I'm also an AD&D addict... What's INWO? Seanna also wrote: On the topic of non-Misty books which handle the theme of strong bonds (sorry, can't find the original post), I'm surprised no one's mentioned Gayle Greeno's Ghatti's Tale series. Not as good as Misty even if I wasn't biased, but not bad either. Cats instead of horses, though. My reply: I have all three of the stories; frankly, I think they're a little too close to the Herald/Companion pattern to count as 'great' in my database - maybe if I'd found them before finding Misty, I'd have a different opinion...Another author who does strong animalbonding stories (the originator of the pattern, I'd say) is Andre Norton. "Moon of Three Rings" is still one of my fav stories, and "The Zero Stone"'s right up there too. Have you read these? Granted, they're juvies, but still good stories.....There's a good reason that Andre has so many cats in her stories - when I met her, she had 6 cats! ObMisty: We've discussed horsebreeding in Valdemar; what about dogs? We hear about the little messenger dogs (sounds like miniature greyhounds to me), and, IIRC, deerhounds and boarhounds? What other dogs are there in Valdemar? (yes, I'm missing my cockers...)
