Ok, well I guess it all depends on whether you believe in destiny, or divine intervention, or whatever.. Ok, say its the beginning of time, and there are exactly 924702428390 souls for Velgarth. That is broken down into sexualities, and then into however many pairs, or groups, etc.. From the very beginning. It is determined that the everyone is lifebonded, and everyone comes on at the same time frame(give or take, howevermany years). But for each lifetime, there is a subdivision to make sure that each lifebound pair, or group is "right" with the sexualities of the bonded. Is this making any sense whatsoever? So, a homophobic person would never bond with a person who is different from his sexuality.. And possibly the reason why not everyone bonds, is because destiny has given each person a set of circumstances, and actually finding your lifebonded would depend on whether you needed them to survive.. Oy, this is coming out muddled. I'll give this some more thought... :) %%%Ivy%%% ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Aug 96 23:55:07 -0400 From: Korendil To: "Misty List" Subject: Happy:):):) Message-ID: <9608310401.AA16099-+AT+-raptor.icubed.net> In direct opposition to my post of the mid-summer (sigh...), I'm = right now very happy, for multiple reasons:) WHy is it that all of Misty's characters fall in love so eaily, and = quickly? You're asking *this* love-lorn group? *giggle* As if we know anything! And really, if you think about it, Talia and Dirk had been in Love for a long time. If you equate lifebonding with love. Van and Lendel, yes, they moved a bit quickly, but they were also lifebonded. I'm trying to think of a lovebonded couple... Okay. My leastest liked character. Elspeth and Darkwind seemed to have a fairly normal courtship time. At least a couple months before they made love, and I think a couple more after that before they got married. (And yes, I do consider that a marriage.) I mean, I guess even that is a little fast, but...hells, I don't know! (Anything...anything at all...) Erm...hows about Natoli and Karal? I mean, it's pretty obvious that they are at some point going to wind up together. And I think the time span we're talking about is at least a few months, and they *are* courting, I'd guess. As to the IRL ramifications of this...beats me. I don't think you can base love on a time period. If the feeling is there, then why not acknowledge it? No, that was said by Darkwind, and he referred to given name and using mundane (or comparable) means. The implication when Kethry is casting the mirrorspell was definitely that there were such things as true-names (a la Earthsea) on Velgarth. Kethry doesn't do any research on the names - she just uses them as a part of the spell. I can't remember that quote, but considering the strain my memory cell is under, that's no surprise :). Remember that in the case of the mirrorspells, the victim never got to know about the casting method - so he wouldn't have the faintest idea about truenames being used. > >Also, what on earth do people use focus-stones for? Hmm. That would explain how the knowledge got lost, but what I really wondered at was what exactly this magical aura was like? And what was it based on? AFAIK (doubtless someone will correct me) stone doesn't conduct electricity very well, nor does it resonate with sound or other wave-energy thingies. Okay. /me goes to look under the MPawn part of the MoC (THAT'S done, at least): Definition of Mage-Gift: "The ability to See (or otherwise Sense) and manipulate energy fields, both natural and supernatural." So, as such, a supernatural field might conduct well in stone--but, in any case, the idea of the focus stone, iirc (haven't read Promise or Price for awhile), is something a mage can use to concentrate his power..he sorta channels it through the stone, which improves and strengthens it? Misty is writing a novel called _Queen of Air and Darkness_. It's about Queen Elizabeth the first. Only, she's not only the Queen of England, she's also the Queen of Witches. 4. The 3 fairy tales are going to be Cinderella, Snow White (hah! I was right! :) ), and Sleeping Beauty. 5. LHM Concordance is probably going to be released this fall (yeah, we've heard that one before) 6. Shadow Stalker Songbook -- summer or fall (I don't know when the FAQ was written though) 7. The thing about the fire in Larry's studio is there too. Oh, and on a side note (the fairy tale thing reminded me). Anyone who is looking for McKinley's Beauty or Knot in the Grain, Future Fantasy On-line bookstore has them! I just ordered Beauty a few days ago. I think the URL is http://www.futfan.com , but I could be way wrong. I don't think that it was primarily her back that caused the personality change. Remember, Winterhart was desperate to hide her true identity. So, she changed her whole personality. I think that in BG, we're seeing the mask she was hiding behind. In WG, we're seeing her true self. Also, don't forget that there were 10 years in between BG and WG. That's a lot of time for a person to change in. Well, I think that they were mostly a tool for channeling magic. Here's a thought. Vanyel mentions at some point that too much raw energy burns or something, and that feeding it through the focus-stone makes the energy "his" and therefore much less raw. Maybe the focus-stones also allowed Herald-mages to uses stronger ley-lines than they normally would (I was actually going to say that they might let non-Adepts use nodes, but then I remembered that only Van and Savil could use the nodes out of the H-mages. After all, it has one of my favorite songs from the live tape on it, "The Garden". ============================================================================= > From: Sean > Wanderlust is an excellent cd and Life's Flame from what I have heard of the > songs on it will be just as good...if you can possibly afford it I would > suggest both! (Wanderlust alone is worth buying for the song 'Stolen Child') Or even better, "Faerie Queen". ============================================================================= > From: KaleashaS-+AT+-aol.com (Lady 'Dessa) > ObMisty: I have one! I think that, originally, Misty just meant for the Warrior to be the one with the Star-eyes. If you look at the entry for Kal'enel in Oathbreakers, it says this: "Kal'enel (kahl enel) -- The Warrior aspect of the four-faced Goddess, literally, "Sword of the Stars." Also called Enelve'astre (Star-Eyed) and Da'gretha (Warrior) " This implies that, when Misty wrote V&H, the Star-Eyed was only the Warrior. I think that, since then, Misty has decided that Enelve'astre is the name of all 4 faces together. ============================================================================= > From: Lady 'Reesa Me talking about a "Wet Wings" novel possiblity snipped. > Sorry Mat, but I have to disagree (I know, I'm lurking, I should > shut up shouldn't I?) _Wet Wings_ should stay, IMNSHO, a short story. > Stretching it into a novel would take away it's intensity. More of a "see what happens now", not "life of the writer". But I can see what you mean. It might take away from the orginal. I guess that I was so excited by something that was as good as vintage Misty that I wanted more. :) > She *did* say that it was her book. (From memory, so deal with > it...) I didn't read it really in depth, just standing at the shelf in Barnes and Noble. =========================================================================== > From: Lady Wintersong > I thought what Tarma couldn't feel was the bond with her Goddess. Remember in Oathbreakers, when Tarma found out what Raschar had done to Idra? Tarma was still at the Palace, yet Kethry was almost knocked out by her (Tarma's) rage. > Could someone refresh my memory on mirrorspells or at least where it is > found? I don't remember reading about it at all! going> The end of Oathbreakers, when they're planning the raid on the Palace. Kethry's part was the mirror spells to take care of the mages. I've always received a response within a week or two (except the one time my questions about the Herald-Mage requirements accidentally got buried under the outgoing newsletters ;->). Judith has always written me personal notes. And she runs Queen's Own AND does Real Life things (which is why, now that she's a grandmother--at least I think I remember reading that--she's looking for someone to take over running QO for her in about two years). That kind of pain. I really felt bad for people with them in the books; I had one a day or two ago, drinking a Slurpee from our local 7-11. Ow!<<< Uhh.... ouch? That *would* hurt! It happened to me on more than one occasion because we were at this place where they serve ice cream as a part of the buffet, and I'm a slow eater. They told me to hurry up, I did, and OUCH!!! If they made a movie out of Bedlam's Bard, "Power of Two" by the Indigo Girls would be perfect for the soundtrack! Any other suggestions? I have never heard any of her stuff because my mother won't let me order anything that would make me look eccentric (that means no Misty filk, no Misty jewelry, no Trek stuff, etc. She did begrudgingly allow me to wear a chained ear-cuff like a Bajoran earring, though). As you might have imagined, my mother lets me read whatever book I want. She doesn't let it go beyond reading, though. Mailing list, she OK'd, but I don't think I can join Queen's Own. I can't wait until I go to college (that's in about 4 years)... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here's a question for you people who are still under the care of your parents or guardians: Do they encourage hobbies like this? Please e-mail me privately. I'm on the verge of using my mother's credit card to order a Klingon(y'know, like Lursa from Generations) costume just to piss her off. She is making me so mad, making fun of Misty books and Star Trek, and even Elton John. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm done. Can you tell I'm a bit ticked at my mother? I really don't give a s*** about what other people think of my hobbies. She thinks that not being accepted by my peers would cause me to be unstable for the rest of my life. Well, her not accepting my interests are making me unstable; other people don't really care about what I want to do on my own free time if it doesn't interfere with theirs. If they have negative comments, my peers (not friends or acquaintances) usually keep to themselves. I didn't want to clog up the list, but I had to unload somewhere.
