would start with Sovven.  Because the holidays she loosely based them on

Well, *grin* You haven't SEEN The pink paper I use.  You can light up a room
with it... it's that bright dayglo pink paper.  Imagine THAT with silver ink
and you have some idea...

Well, Jake and Catherine, you guys just lose.  I don't care what *you*
say either: I think she'd be an awesome Kerowyn.  I've always been
amazed by Sharon Stone.  She has this...presence that is just magnetic
and ferocious and tremendous.  I remember seeing her give an award at
the Oscars last year, and she was so regal and cool (not in the slangy
way, just ... cool), with this very sly sense of humor.  And as many
problems as there may have been with Basic Instinct, it still just blows
my mind that this character could be so intimidating, so in-control of
the whole situation.  She also happens to be, in RL, a very, very
intelligent, very feminist, very insightful woman.  So she surely can
play a character that demands those qualities.

I realize that MUDs and stuff like that are verboten, but is it a
copyright infringement if it's just something you develop for private
use, for you and your gaming group in the privacy of your own home?  I
mean, a lawyer can't regulate that, right?  Or can a lawyer do anything
nowadays? I can't write fanfic without a release form, and I can't use
her main characters in it.  But what if I decide, for my own amusement
one quiet afternoon, to sit down and write something about Diana in
college, or flesh out (no pun intended) that infamous Vanyel & Stefen
love scene?  Then maybe I let Barbara read it when I go home, but other
than that, it never sees the light of day.  Is that really illegal?  I
wouldn't think so, and I wouldn't think a D&D game in Velgarth would be
illegal, if unpublished and used privately.  Kerry?  Other lawyers?

Oh, good.  I was getting worried, since I didn't really enjoy Thomas too
much.  One of those books that's not bad, but I kept getting "interupted",
the kinds of things I ignore if I'm really into a book.

It's definitely growing on me.  I like Raederle.  She broods a whole lot
less than Morgon does.  Unfortunately, I now like Morgon less (I'm at the
beginning of Book3).  It's the same thing that bothers me about RJ's Rand
al'Thor.  Something important/traumatic happens to them, and their
personality changes completely.  I know that it could happen, but I don't
like it.

Re: Heather's post on Misty doing too much plot, and not enough character.

I was just talking to Tammy about this the other day.   I think that,
depsite book length and delayed publication, a Misty/Robert Jordan collab
would be a good thing.  Her strength is really in her characterization.
His is in his plots.  His characters are annoying, with very little depth.
Her plots are a bit weak, and very straightforward.  I think that they'd
very nicely cover each other's blindspots.  If nothing else, it'd *have*
to be a better collab than with Larry. :)

ObMisty: Here's something that's been bugging me. I'm still plugging through
Oathbreakers for Kory <taking notes this time> and when Tarma and Kethry are
in the Comb, and they're looking for shelter, they send Warrl out to find
some. He comes back with Herald Roland. Okay, he says that they are across
the border and in Valdemar.

BUT when the 'Bolts head over the Comb into Valdemar, Quenten and the mages
freak the second they cross the boarder and head back for Bolthaven. Why
doesn't Keth feel the Vrondi sheild and freak out? She even casts a spell
while she's there (the Adept spell)! Is this a Misty slip?

The problem with a Jordan/Lackey collaboration is that I don't want to
read 10 700 page books about anything.  Christ, I don't even want 2
million words (is my math right? 250 X 7000 = 1,750,000) about my own
characters, let alone someone else's.

And you know, I don't really believe that in real life, "something
happens and your personality changes," (loose quote from Mat's post Re:
Robert Jordan, IIRC).  People do change, but I believe that they always
contain within them from the beginning the seeds of what they become, if
you follow.  When a writer shows a change in personality, you jolly well
better be able to go back to the beginning and see the character's
potential to become whatever they become.  Even the changes that people
go through are always consistent with who they really are.  Different
aspects of a person just become more or less important, and needs and
impulses manifest themselves in different ways.  I think if a writer
doesn't grasp that, her/his characters will either remain static and
boring, or go through implausible changes that strike the reader as
silly and/or annoying.

   Spoken through my great wisdom as an unpublished slacker, of course,
but I think I know whereof I speak on this one.  I go to a lot of
trouble to make my characters internally consistent -- and when I don't,
Barbara usually catches it and beats me about the head and shoulders.
It's really one of my favorite aspects of writing -- erk, that is,
developing the character to be solid, realistically motivated, and so
forth, not getting beaten.  My other favorite part of writing is putting
my characters through trauma, pain, and stress.  But that's for a
different post <g>...

I hope it isn't too late to put my vote in.  I'd like to see Elisabeth Shue
as Talia...after Adventures in Babysitting, she went on my top 10 list.  Who
did you guys pick for the other Heralds, like Kris, and Dirk, and Ylsa, etc?

I have just recently discovered this wonderful land of Valdamar just a couple

I must start at the beginning, so bear with me here. I have recently become
able to communicate with my guardian angel. He has given me his name as
Eldin. About 2 weeks later...I was drawn to a book called _By The Sword_.
Imagine my dismay when I read the name of the very first herald I was to
meet! Kero's Elden. Well, that book so enchanted me that I began to read some
more. This time reading the Last Herald-Mage books. These book also held some
personnal message to me as I had lost my husband and lifebonded to cancer
last summer. I can't tell you how much I cried during those three books! I
have read nine of these books in the last 2 months....getting ready to start
the next right now. And every one of these books seem to have some message or
moral that seems aimed just at me!

So I have been lurking here and reading your posts since I found this list
about a week or so ago. You've mentioned willow bark tea.....but what about
the cinnamion marigold mixture....is it for real too?

Ummm.  I think that was a mistake.  I don't remember,  and laziness has taken
over,  so I don't feel like checking.  Gwena could do *something* with magic
that was going to be useful to Elspeth and Darkwind,  and then just casually
said,  "oh,  I can do this."  The only part of Elspeth's reply I remember
was,  "You're with-holding information."   Gee Mat,  I don't know.  Do they
both exist in Velgarth?  <grins back just as wicked and evil>

 Even the Mage Wars books *gasp!*  Hmmm,  I'd probably read the collab faster
than Mage Wars though!  But who would do the art?  Larry would be in there
anyway...<gagging again at the art in the Winds books>

Oh, I knew what you meant. I'm just in a mischevous mood today. :)  And I
don't know... Considering how much the Companions hold back, maybe they
*can* access the True Source.  Of course, they must be immune to the taint
on saidin, or we'd have a lot of loony stallions around Haven. <gryn>

Yup, waaay back, Tammy declared me the poster boy for the LIG.  After all,
I was one of the reasons she formed them, to defend me and others like me
from the MIW.  I don't know why, but just about every time they show up, I
end up being subjected to PUNnishment.

And I don't see why Firecat can't be a CP.  We've never had a secondary
persona join one of the groups before though, have we?  Though, she'd have
to be an adpoted member, like the Gryphons, since she's Tayledras, not an
original CP like Jag or me.  Welcome!

Ah-hah! I'm not the only one! I said the same thing when we discussed 
something channeling-related (think it was about Karal) a few months ago! 
And then I got corrected. Valdemar has channeling, too. JUst a totally 
different kind. More along the lines of the catalysts from Weis&Hickman's 
Darksword trilogy. And the companions can do that. SO there;P

Ya' know..that's true. Here we have RJ with plots to slobber over: 
intrigue, battles, politics, 'comforting', mega-powerful enemies...and 
MIsty with: the church is using tricks to get everyone mad at everyone, 
or let's go bring magic back to the country and in the process fall in 
love and defeat an evil madman. But then you have RJ with charcters his 
closest fans make fun of: the Feminine Sniffing Syndrome, myriad lummoxes 
and wool heads, and basic 'you're-evil-let's-kill-you' characters. And 
Misty with: Vanyel. Vanyel. Vanyel. Stefen. Medren. Lendel. Rune. Kory. 
Eric. ad nauseam. Misty has characters you remember. RJ has plots you 
hunger for. But think of it...The Last-Herald Mage Reborn? Eye of 
Velgarth? The Heralds of Andor? I dunno...;>

OK, you're right. I just looked through, and Shallan mentions that Kero 
has to go to school. So I was wrong. But I bet it was just on valdemaran 
laws and politics and such. 

I saw another thing: SHallan calls Valdemar a 'heathen realm' or 
something akin, at the end...what religion does Rethwellan have?

Well...I truly hope Sweet doesn't. I THOUGHT he just totally screwed up 
on RJ's..but noooooo...I try and hide the covers of my Bardic Voices 
books, he does such a bad job. I was really happy after the cover fell 
off of Robin and the Kestrel;> Jodi Lee does a good job on average, 
though...some of them are pathetic (WHite Gryphon), some have bad 
elements (Snake Woman. Van's Hair Dye. Princess Tashira. Envoyess Karalia 
of Storm Rising), yet others are good(LHM, WoFate, BTS)...the Larry 
ELmore one's are all right, though the elf on Born to Run embarassed me. 
And whoEVER did Chrome Circle deserves death.

Oh, The Lilac Fairy has met Desire. While she was tickled with the "Desire is
a bitch/bastard" concept, as well as Desire being androgynous, she's just not
attracted to the character sexually. The one she really adores is Delirium,
perhaps because she reminds the Lilac Fairy of her mundane alter ego, Lee.
(Although Lee is usually a bit more focused than poor Del!)

Ah, the Lilac Fairy has this book on her To Be Read Shelf, which has recently
expanded to two shelves, thanks in no small part to Heather and the other
members of this list...

The Lilac Fairy agrees, Death is quite charming and fun to be around.  She
meant "Dangerous" in the sense that a love (and/or lust) relationship between
a mortal and Death or Dream might not be exactly emotionally healthy for the
mortal. It would certainly be interesting while it lasted, though!

Obmisty: Interesting to compare Gaiman's concept of Death as a really cool
young woman, and Misty's "Shadow-Lover", who appears as an image of the newly
dead person's ideal lover. Remember in Magic's Promise, when Van meets the
Shadow-Lover, "it" was a beautiful man, and then Jays comes along and refers
to "Lady Death"? For both authors, Death is not something to be afraid of,
but is a friend when you really need one, kind and comforting.

Okay first I thougth - hey that's right! But then I thought well maybe 
it isn't a slip. (okay I' probably stretching a little here but for the 
sake of an arguement, ahmm discussion) Perhaps it is because of the fact 
that Keth crossed the border with Rolad. Since the vrondi were only 
susposed to watch mages that the Heralds were unaware of, they didn't 
react to Keth since she was with Rolad. Am I making any sense 
whatsoever? (you know it's pretty bad when you confuse yourself - 
arrrrrrggggggghhhhhh!!!!)

Let's see I generally call my car Baby - when it decides it wants to 
work right. Other times I call it - You stupid piece of scrap metal 
except well let's just say the name also includes a lot of colorful 
words not said in polite company. Lately that has been a lot. My 
computer is FLoyd - I don't insult my computer, he doesn't like it - he 
decides to go goofy when I'm talking to John in the chat room and not 
let me talk to John. Nice Floyd!! <G>

Don't mind me everyone - I'm suffering from a major attack of nerves - I 
may be getting a promotion at work. Offical Trainer or some such title. 
I'm getting my test run now and it is not going well :-( I'm not in any 
danger of losing my job, but the person I'm training is. I have to 
decide by next week if I think this lady can handle the job. If not she 
will be moved to a different postion in the department - one that does 
not pay as well. Right now I don't think she can, she has no ambition. I 
have 2 more days to put some spice into this lady or she gets demoted. I 
don't think I will like this job.

On one more thing just to give everyone fair warning - I am going to 
meet John - my main object of lust in the chat room I go to. Between the 
new job and the case of nerves I'm giving myself over meeting John, I 
think I will have a breakdown. Well come Monday afternoon I will be even 
more hyper and bubbly or major league depressed. People wish me luck in 
both things please.

Ah! He's everywhere! Its everywhere! That's at least the third time Tam Lin

No crap! We *need* a lesbian character! We had a gay character, and a
damned good one at that. Maybe if Misty actually write a story or a novel
or two or three, Need might be a major lesbian character. But maybe Need
was just an extreme feminist. People get those two mixed up a lot. This kid
at camp thought I was a lesbian because I was pretty much a feminist. I
first told him that I wasn't, and then, I told him that if he thinks of
lesbians as perverts, I would jam his balls up to his spleen (OSC ref. from
Memory of Earth). He actually made a reference to that when he signed my
yearbook!
