But I submit instead: According to Vahn the vrondis' conception of "border" is rather loose. And we know that Roald's so-called "hunting lodge" (anyone care to speculate on what it's *really* for? <*very* weg>) is just over the Valdemarean border of Roald's time. What if the vrondi are simply not patrolling that little area of space -- which probably did *not* belong to the rather smaller Valdemar of Vanyel's time? Then Keth could work magic with impunity and not feel the little eyes on her neck. They weren't after all, trying to visit Haven or anything. P.S. did Keth do the Adept spell then? I've ordered like six times from them. The only reason I have my most recent catalogs (Winter and Spring 96) is that they came with my latest order. > ObMistyAgain: Does Tempest have any connection to Misty, other than > that they're in the Firebird catalog and apparently into the same kind > of music? Well, IIRC, Misty really likes them. She wrote a song, "Dark Lover: A Love Song to a Vampire" for their album, _Serrated Edge_. According to Firebird, the album is supposed to be inspiried by the SERRA books, though I don't see how really. Also, they say that the band is going to be major players in the next SERRA book, _Tempest Fugit_ (written with Larry). Eek. I just realized a redeeming value of Larry. He helped write Tannim, my favorite SERRA character (distinct from Di and others), both times. Since he's co-authoring TF, maybe its another Tannim book. ========================================================================== > From: Soljan-+AT+-aol.com > >>And I don't see why Firecat can't be a CP. I'm not a real Trekker/ie, but I've got to say that I never liked the idea of Troi and Worf. But then, I've never liked Worf at all (why did it have to be Worf on DS9? --hypothetical question, BTW--). And Jonathan Frakes is just so great looking. Yum! Like Paramount would EVER do things like that--there was the hinted at annoying romance in both the Picard/Crusher Riker/Troi relationships. Which I really hate. It's what Sitcoms do. Like Night Court and Who's The Boss... they keep you on edge for SEASONS, and give you that ONE episode, and it turns out it was because they were drunk or something. It's like Paramount is dangling something in front of the viewers and then snatching it away, saying "ha ha! Fooled you!" I didn't see ALL GOOD THINGS ... but I think that Riker and Troi NEVER got together. *sigh* Not that I would have wanted them to--Marina Sirtis... yum! Forgive me, Lady Thessaly, I did not recall my comments on plot v. character coming up on the list before. Perhaps it happened while I was gone. So sorry to bore you. Contrary to popular belief, I *do* like to post things from time to time that won't stir up controversy. But apparently that's just not what audiences want anymore. Wellll, Barbara and I were recently discussing an old, old thread started by Cennydd, I believe, in his early days (yeah, I was *here* in Cennydd's early days, if you can imagine) about the relationship between power and gender in Misty's work. We started thinking about the connections between sex and power, and came up with some interesting conclusions. We think Misty's pretty screwed up about men. Would an analysis of the author's psychosexual history be controversial enough? HTH r618-+AT+-academic.truman.edu "Do you go to the Cat Scratch Club? That's where I work -- I dance." "Yes! Ah Jake, have you never read _Imzadi_, by Peter David? Now, I don't normally read Trek books, and I don't know if they're cannon, but I really like that book. It has the Guardain of Forever, alternate universes, and the first meeting of Troi and Riker. And the reason that they call each other Imzadi. They were together _before_ ST:TNG. IIRC, that's even hinted at in the first episode....(I keep wanting to say "Downbelow Station) "Encounter at Farpoint". You should try the book.
