Oops!
I have a few things to apologize for.
In my last post (Re: Evaline), I didn't mean to say that Vanyel had no 
sisters, just that I didn't think he had a sister by the name of whatever they 
used in that book.  Lissa was the only sister that was level-headed and 
practical enough to even make it to Haven, but even she wouldn't have been 
chosen, as she had no potential.  Sorry if it sounded like I didn't think 
Vanyel had any sisters.
I would like to announce that if you have tried to call 1-800-SOSORRY, it has 
been disconnected (after it left about five minutes of annoying "so sorry, so 
sorry, so sorry,..." messages on my machine) due to the fact that my goddess 
head is still in the works.
Lady Thess?  Can I please be Goddess of Freaks, Whining, and Hot Climes?  
E-mail me privately if you need all my qualifications.  oh, yeah.  will you

i've always wondered (personal trivia) about PK-M.  When I first read the
throne of scone trilogy, she was still going by the name Patricia Kennealy
on the spine and cover of her novels, but the inside page/copyright
section of the book, had her listed down as Patricia Kennealy-Morrison. 
There were a few "about the author" blurbs which heavily suggested that
she married Jim Morrison of the Doors shortly before his death (something
like a year, no?) but they didn't come right out and say it (the words
were something like "she traded religious vows with jim morrison in 1971" 
-- not sure about the year there).  and that was it.  Nobody'd at that
time heard of her (this was quite a while ago - i'd not met you lot
yet!!), my friends who liked the doors had never even heard a rumour that
jim morrison'd been married.  then some years ago the doors movie came
out.  i didn't go to see it, but was pk-m mentioned at all?  if so, why 
not?  was there a legal problem or something that prevented her from 
using her married name until now?  is that why she's only using her 
married name now?

_Sheep_ aren't a karma thing, that's not what I meant.  I meant that you
know, be nice to them because they are taking over the world (this line of
thinking is a result of late night T.V. and boredom ;)  )   and if you aren't
nice to them you just might be sacrificed.

Ah, but when do you place LHM, before or after Arrows?  If Arrows first,
you get the Van spoiler.  If you read LHM first, you have no idea
what the heck Heralds are (that happened to me -- I was kind of lost.
I felt like I was missing something -- and I was).

Actually, I preferred Born to Run to Chrome Circle.  The only part I
really liked of CC was the TMBG scene.  Now that had me ROFLMAO.
The rest left me kind of bored though.  I guess jaunts through
Underhill and the Unformed just don't do it for me.

Yes, I liked Bedlam Boyz too Heather (well, except for the kewl "z" in
the title).  Sure, it's not up to par with KoGaS or StT, but
it's still good.  Before I knew it existed, Kayla's gang comments
in StT bugged me.  I just knew that I was missing something (hey this
is beginning to sound like a trend).

I think of them kind of like Gandalf and the rest of Tolkein's Wizards.
They're actually Guardian Spirits (Maia), but they're clothed in
mortal bodies, and are forbidden to use their true power.  But the
Grove-born are closer to Gandalf the White (as opposed to the Gray).
Well, that last sentence is a bit iffy, but I liked the first part,
and I wanted to run with the metaphor. :)

I enjoyed it a lot.  At first, I was dissapointed at what they did with
the characters, but then I relaxed and began to like it on its own

I've really got to get around to reading this book.  It's been on
my shelf for months.  For some odd reason, each time I read GGK, 
I wait a while before the next.  And it's not even a conscious 
decision.  First I read Fionavar.  I kept taking Tigana out of the
library after that, but kept returning it unread.  When I finally
read it, I ran out and bought Song and Lions.  But something came
up, and it was a month or two before I read Song.  And now, it's
been 2 or 3 months since I finished Song, and I still haven't
read Lions.

Well, my point is just that, I think that all Grove-born have never
reincarnated, with the possible exception of the MOC (I can't decide
about him/them ).  I don't see why the new extra Grove-born would
be any different than the originals.  The MOC is a special case, but
why would Gwena be.  I think that the whole point is that the G-b
are more (and therefore more powerful) a spirit.  They may have
experience, it just isn't *human* experience, as Van said.
For all we know, Gwena's been hanging around the Havens, watching
Valdemar, et. all since the beginning of time.  But, she's never
been incarnated as a human being before.  She's not a baby, but
she lacks a certain perspective on the world that the normal Companions
have, having been human.  Do you get what I'm driving at Danya.  I
just originall meant that Yfandes couldn't be Grove-born, since
several times, we see glimpses of her human form.  IMHO, a 
G-b wouldn't have a human form for us to get glimpses of.

This is a brief response to the questions about Patricia Kenneally, aka
Patricia Kenneally-Morrison.  For more in-depth knowledge, again, do
visit her homepage (search for "lizardqueen") -- it's supernifty.
   YES, she was Jim Morrison's wife, YES, that Jim Morrison.  The reason
the blurb phrases it so cryptically is that their marriage was never
leagal, i.e. there was no marriage license.  They were married in a
private pagan handfasting ceremony, and while they both considered it a
true and binding marriage, the state of wherever does not.
   YES, she appeared in the Oliver Stone movie The Doors -- sort of.
The character was not named Patricia -- I don't remember what they
called her.  But the character was a witch, and the editor of a rock
magazine, and Jim's lover, all of which Patricia is/was.  Kathleen
Whassername, who won an Oscar for Supporting Actress in Apollo 13 played
her.  However, Patricia herself despised that movie and thought it made
Jim look worse than he deserved.  For probably more accurate
information, read Patricia's own book, Strange Days.  And her new Keltia
book, soon to be released, is called Blackmantle, and draws *heavily* on
her relationship with Jim.
   Her legal name is Patricia Kenneally-Morrison, although her earlier
books were in fact first published simply under her birth name, Patricia
Kenneally.  She explains in her FAQ why she did it that way, but I
honestly can't recall the reasoning right now.  No, the variant names
have nothing to do with legal problems.  She changed her name to
Kenneally-Morrison, so that is now her name to use, for whatever reason
she wants to use it.  I could change my name to Heather Watson-Pfeiffer
and write a million books, and it would be perfectly legal, regardless
of my relationship with Michelle.  Hell, I could call myself Heather
Watson-Cantaloupe if I wanted to.  There are no laws about what names
you can and cannot put on your bookjacket.

Ok...done with that. NOw, for the post.

Danya, I really don't understand a lot of your misgivings. IMO, the 
Empire scenes were GREAT! Not top-of-the-line misty, but not bad, either. 
I liked how at the end everything got sped up..showing the crisis 
situation...and all of a sudden we see that while we've been gobbling up 
all we can about maze-cubes and node-sheilds, Melles hasn't been slack. I 
was rather surprised at first at the assasination, but, then again, we 
shouldn't of assumed that time was going at different rates. And the 
cradle incident was quite fun, in a morbid way. 

I have no standing on the Mutant Squid, only that through careful 
observation I've decided that JOdy Lee got lazy. THe back is just the 
upper right corner of the front enlarged a lot. And what's the skull 
thingy that spews magic? 

I really wish we got more out of Vanyel, thoguh I certainly liked how 
Misty quickly resolved Need's being pre-magewar while giving her an 
impetus to help them. I didn't exactly like Need's reasons for bonding to 
Firesong...does that mean Need wouldn't have wanted to bond to a shaych 
female? 

I really can't see a reason for leaving Karal blind, or Firesong 
scarred...she didn't have to do that. There musta been other ways. And 
the way Karal really ISN'T Blind thanks to Altra was sorta cheap.

I have to say I teared at the end. Not as much as I did when I got to the 
end of AFall, but I still did. The scene with firesong and silverfox was 
very touching, as was the one with Karal and Altra. 

Getting rid of most magic was a bit cheap, too. She spends so long 
teaching us Valdemar's rules of magic (see? see? I TOLD you all how tor 
ank 'em, and except for the resevoir bit, I was RIGHT!), and then 
destroys them. Not as bad as what happened to Krynn, though (GODS I hated 
Dragons of SUmmer Flame)....

I think Florian is Kris. I really doubt he was someone Van knew in life, 
and he's the only handsome guy with blond hair and blue eyes, I think.

Actually, I left out LHM because the person to whom I was responding had
already read LHM.  Personally, I read it first and didn't have any
trouble groking the Herald concept (well, it wasn't my firstfirst Misty.
First I read Oathbound, then Children of the Night, THEN Vanyel.  But
Vanyel was my first of the Valdemar books.) I guess I'd recommend it
first -- although it kind of goes against my dramatic grain to put the
best first.  For fear that the rest would be anticlimactic, I guess.
Either, really works.

I think you'd find *Wicked* in the mainstream shelves.  At least, I comb
the fantasy shelves regularly, and I never saw it there.  I got the tip
from Terri Windling's Year's Best list, and ordered it from my friendly
neighborhood bookplace.  The nice booksellers in Kirksville are getting
used to the blonde chick who comes in twice a week to order something
impossibly obscure <g> The only edition that was currently available, at
least to my people, is a $14 trade paperback (US dollars, that is.  20
in Canada.  Everyone else is on her own.) But I do think it's worth it,
assuming you're not living on cat food and contemplating insurance fraud
to pay off your Visa bills or anything.

Which is why I said several posts back that we need to agree to disagree on
this because your whole arguement falls apart for me because I do not accept
your assumption.

Neither do I, but I think they are spirits of wise people, perhaps ones that
were killed while the Baron was fleeing from the Empire or perhaps great
heroes of the Empire's past or even from elsewhere.  For all we know, Gwena
is one of those priestesses from Need's convent or wherever it was.  She
could have been very powerful, have had next to no experience in the "real"
world the first time around and just not had anyone see her humanform yet
because Misty forgot or that paragraph got axed by an editor or for any
number of other reasons.

Gwena's special simply because Misty said so.  Hey, so she hasn't done
