What was Misty thinking? In AFall, Elspeth was a lovely, mature young woman, a far cry from where she had been. And then...! It's like there's a whole new character named Elspeth. Did Misty make her immature just to develop her character all over again? Personally, I like her character the way it was in AFall. I think Misty could have stayed with that and still been just as successful in the Winds, if not more so. Elspeth doesn't just regress to the Royal Brat, she regresses to the Royal B**ch, (if you'll pardon me), which she herself gleefully admits to Darkwind. I think she could have made her just as independant and unwilling to be driven to her destiny without changing her character so awfully. Something wierd must have happened in the year or so story time to have changed her so. I also was really disappointed with her relationship to Gwena. In the Arrows books, they seem to be quite close and have the kind of bond characteristic of Herald and Companion. In the Winds, though, the best I remember Elspeth EVER saying about Gwena was that she "had been a good friend." (those with books can look up the reference, I forget which book, and the situation). It's almost like they barely tolerate each other. Maybe it's because of Gwena's inexperience, or maybe they just have the same personality or something, but I was so incredibly disappointed with that aspect of the Winds trilogy (which, I guess, makes up most of the trilogy itself...) It's Castle of Deception co-authored by (i think) Josepha Sherman, and is *not* one of the Bardic Voices/Choices books, but is based on a computer game of some sort (i want to say 'bar'ds tale' but I'm not sure if that's correct) with Natcheriel the black elf, and so on. I am not crying any more, but I was earlier. This is one of her first albums, "Elemental," and most of the songs are traditionals that she has arranged (not particularly well--you can tell she is still finding her confidence), but it also has a song that she wrote the music for called "Stolen Child" (the lyrics are Yeat's poem). It is the most unbelievably poignant, haunting marriage of music and lyrics. The first time I played it (a few hours ago), I just froze and sat there and cried. This *is* the voice of Faerie calling out to the lost human souls of this wretched world. ~Come away, O human child / to the waters and the wild / with a faery, hand in hand / for the world's more full of weeping / than you can understand.~ The other truly stellar piece on the album is "Lullaby." Loreena is the GGK of music, in my opinion. If you have not yet discovered her, go do so. If for no other reason, you will be able to hear what someone with the Bardic Gift sounds like (and yes, you can record it, apparently). > No, No, No! Start people off on LHM! Oh, shush! LHM is good, but it is no AotQ. And Van is to annoying and frustrating to dump on someone without warning. BTW, in the thread of whether people project themselves into stories, I find that I project myself into the Van books very often, usually because I want to smack him so hard he will be seeing stars for a month. Talk about someone who is determined to stamp out any possibility of fun or joy in life. I think he annoys me so much because I know people like that in real life; they seem to work at not taking joy where they find it. And then, like Van, they whine about how joyless and dismal their life is--as if I should have sympathy for them. Ooops. I am ranting, aren't I? Sorry. I am in a wierd mood. > How much is this book? I want it. I want now. No, earlier;> Yeah..I > remember a Sci-Fi channel interview years ago with Misty, and GODS did > she look..different. I don't know the price, but the title is definitely "The Faces of Fantasy" and it is by a female photographer named Peritt or somesuch. I assume that any bookstore can do a price check and order it for you.
