OK. Over the past couple of hours several people have asked me to apologize to Val... I'm sorry, Valerie Sanford, if I have acted irrationally concerning you. I felt I wasn't acting out of line, but according to others, whose judgements I trust, I am. I suppose I just sorta bristled at your posts...so I;m sorry. I didn't really think I was lashing out at you, but I could very well have been suffering from acute flame-rush. I had, for some reason, assumed the faq was sent to subscribers when they, well subscribed. That point has been cleared up with me now, though. Common sense, too, can't be really measured, since everyone has different views of what's right and wrong or such. I know well enough that I've been misjudging a lot, both, it seems, here and irl. Pretty good -- thanks, guys. However, some of you have mentioned that you'd like to participate, but don't know a) your Myers-Briggs type b) what the heck I'm talking about. You can take the test in a shorter and fairly accurate form on the Internet. It takes about five or ten minutes, and it's really very interesting. The address is: http://sunsite.unc.edu/personality/keirsey.html Please do. It's deeply enlightening for the individual taking the test, and I'm having lots of fun with this research. So far the most overwhelming piece of information is that nearly everyone is Intuitive around here. Hmm. Feel free to keep contributing if you haven't already; I'm not closing the book now. Just wanted to let you know what I've been finding. The "average" (hahahaha) Mistylist member seems to be pretty overwhelmingly an INTJ -- Introspective, Intuitive, Thinking, and Judging. There are a healthy contingent of Feeling people as well, but not many of us seem to vary from the INJ type. Out of curiosity, I tallied up the 24 survey respondants to find out how many of them were actually INTJs, or differed by *only one* letter. Five different categories out of the possible 16, therefore (INTJ, ENTJ, ISTJ, INFJ, INTP). Less than half, right? Around a third, right? No, actually 17 people belonged to one of those five types, with only 7 spread out among the other eleven. By far the *least* appearing letter was S (only 3 strongly Sensing people, though three more fell on the border between S and N). We seem to be a primarily intuitive bunch. Shall we seven renegades form a Mistylist support group? Misunderstood in our own time.... Thanks for helping out, and please, continue if you like. I even heard from some lurkers, which was kinda neat. (Hi, guys!) They call it the Pod Movie, as in it was replaced by something that looks just like it, but has no emotions. Most expensive documentary ever made. I happened to think it was thoroughly exciting. I got the "poor thing; just leave her be, it's kinder," look. I get those a lot at home Usually when I come home raving excited about a new filk tape. I'm actually very proud of my sister and her friends, gender-identity wise. She's ten, and her cohorts range from about six or seven to twelve and thirteen. Erica is an utter clotheshorse and fusses about her appearance a lot, but, on the other hand, her main play activities are rollerblading, mucking around in the mud of the creek near our house, and generally tearing about, falling down, and getting hurt. I've seen them play in the driveway across the street, painting each other's nails and putting on those little silver fingernail-stickers, then get right up and play basketball. All her friends are girls. So she gets, I think, a pretty healthy mix of masculine and feminine type activity, and none of her friends seem to have a problem with it. (She was Laura Ingalls Wilder last year for Halloween; this year she's a pirate.) She's extremely down-to-earth when it comes to relationships, too (yeah, I know, give her time, she'll flip out). She was quite bitter about The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, because she thought Phoebus was "stuck-up" and wanted the gypsy to end up with Quasimodo. The friend who was with her at the time kept protesting that Quasimodo was funny looking, and Erica just narrowed her eyes and said, "So?" I think the kid's going to grow up pretty okay.
