This would be good, except I found out as I was walking down the thrice cursed pile of dirt to check my email. (Blush) Sorry about the off topic. Slope soaring is when you fly a glider into the wind that is blowing uphill. It removes the need for any sort of engine and allows really long flights. Unfortunately I was not dressed for slope soaring conditions and the temperature is around thirty degrees Fahrenheit (sp?). Mat the Cat (torturer! ) said >Hehe. Some of us have already read >it, even though we live in the US. :) Yeah, but I didn't even know it EXISTED til I got my internet hookup at college (in mid-September). And I have been waiting for the new one since about seventh grade! That is too long by far. I'd suggest we table the thread on the magic circles (or suggest books on related topics for those who want more) cause it has become pretty clear that Misty's model doesn't work in the real world. It is very hard to talk physics without the equations, and we are at the point where we need them (in fact, we might be getting near the point where you need calculus). There IS a reason why I called them those damned circles in my response to the topic. Mat the Cat mentioned: >_Firebird_ will be out in December. >_Black Swan_ -- "retelling of the Swan Lake ballet" In fact, I'd even like it if she would put an end to the Herald books that are set late in Selenay's reign for a while. Yes I know it's heresy, but it feels a bit _stretched_ at this point, and I could use a break. Getting my mental image of what comes next blown twice yearly does NOT work well and it tends to annoy me. If Owlflight has as many brainbusters as SB, I will start thinking seriously about giving up on Valdemar for a year or so. The Fire Rose wasn't as wonderful as the Last Herald-Mage, but it was fun. If Misty has fun writing these fairy tales, I'll probably have fun reading them. And one of the reasons why I read her stuff is that it doesn't HURT as much as Katherine Kurtz, or Lois McMaster Bujold. It makes me think and cry, but I don't want to find the author and yell at her. This is why I'm looking forward to these fairy tales. I can bet that I won't be furious at Misty with how she ends them, and I can bet that I won't mind the surprises. Gee, I wasn't planning on all this ranting when I started this post. Sheep anyone? I think its the different ways that the palaces were constructed as well as the amount of magic stored there. Ma'ar's palace was really the palace of the king that he took over. Therefore, it probably wasn't underground (as much of Urtho's tower was), and it probably didn't have as much magic stored in the fabric of it. Umm, just a warning, but there's another personna who might use my keyboard and username every now and then. Well, I've already had to make that choice once, and I chose the Lark and the Wren. Hey, Cenn? Do you think we could have Cooking with Cennydd Tips for Thanksgiving? I have a friend who's coming up from the States to spend his week off with me, and I wanted to have at least one "traditional" meal for him. Sorry, Em. Umm, what are her books, should I start > them, and if so, where? Yes, read read read. I command you My daughter, find a copy of _So You Want to Be a Wizard_ by Diane Duane. It's just been rereleased in the States, so you may actually be able to find it. If you're in the SciFi book club, get the omnibus edition of parts 1-3, _Support Your Local Wizard_ (which is what I've got). I first read SYWTBAW when I was in grade school. I loved it, but never knew of any sequels. Then, my brother and I went halves on joining the SFBC. I saw the omnibus title, and was interested, so I got it (for a penny!). When I started to read it, it seemed quite familiar, until it dawned on me that it was that book that I had loved that had dissapeared from the library after I returned it. And it had two sequels! Hmm, maybe I'll reread that now. Rats. It's at home, and I'm reading Hambly's _Mother of Winter_ right now. obMisty Alert!!!!!! > >>obMisty: Kal'enel and Vkandis don't seem to have these problems.....<< > > Ummmm.... is this an SB spoiler? Kal'enel is aka the Star-eyed (take a gander at the Shin'a'in lexicon in Obreakers). I was just naming two Velgarthian deities. I could just as easily have said "Astera and Kernos."
