After you write the 5-7-5 pattern, you then write the two extra lines, then another 5-7-5, then another two, well you get the idea. According to my English teacher (the same one who just gave me a D on an essay, and the only thing wroong with it was that instead of quoting "The Pit and the Pendulum" I underlined it, and a D is the lowest grade she gives as long as you turn something in, so I did all that work for nothing!!! She even told me that except for that, it would have been an A. stupid teacher.....grumble grumble), people would sit in groups and write these things, one person starting off by writing the first 5-7-5, then passing it to the next person, who would add to it, and so on. Unfortunately, we did a whole unit on poetry, and were forced to write a lot of poems (which I can't do) so I was very relieved when we learned haiku, it's the only kind of poetry I can write. And I can't even do it that well. Oh well, I envy all you who can actually write good poetry. *--------------------Lady Becky of the Hills--------------------* |Goddess of Tofu and Dry Breakfast Cereals | |Handmaiden of Procrastination | |Lady in Green | |Founder of the AftPoSWT (confused? And, btw, how old you are when you Bond > doesn't matter. Remember Teren? I guess you are right that it does not matter how old you are. But your theory of there being only weak bonds in the case of the future MO, I don't agree. My textevd is not too strong but here it goes: In MPromise Van tells 'fandes: "When Lancir died - truth, I almost expected Taver to choose me King's Own. Instead - he chose Shavri, and I'm desperately afraid it wasn't because she was Randale's lifebonded. I'm afraid it was because she was a Healer". The issue is, IMHO, that if Van thought it was a possibility to be Chosen MO, then it was if not common practice at least a possibility. And noone will argue Van's bond with 'fandes was weak or temporary. We already know it was both preordained and fated to end the way it did. True, Van did not know this and probably the Companions did, but the fact that he considered the possibility seems to me to show that it had either happened before, or was something you took for granted. I'm probably not making much sense, but then it is very hot (Wintershard, you are probably going to say all us women are terribly fickle, but couldn't you send a storm our way?? thanks!!), and I am dead tired and I still have things to finish up before going to bed. You know this is really funny (not the topic, I mean strange - funny). I've been thinking about Were (loved the book) and I suppose he is stereotypical, but if I was going to be bi, then having a triangle would be the way to go for me. Anywho, I was talking to Carrach about Kory and Eric and Beth and I said I didn't see much sexuality between Kory and Eric, more brotherly feelings, like you might admire your brother or sister and kiss and hug them and even sleep in the same bed, but you wouldn't have sex with them. He said he thought they were overtly sexual, so now I have to go back and read to come up with textevd to support my views. Makes me think that sexuality is in the eyes of the beholder (TSR has some of the greatest puns in the world!) Do you have any textevd on your stand? Foreordination I belive there is a difference between Foreordination and Predestination. Foreordination is choosing to participate in a given outcome, Predestination is being chosen or forced in participating in a given outcome. For example, we know that heralds/companions sometimes have the choice to return and serve Valdemar. That's Foreordination - they chose to come back. Predestination is where the Star-eyed One just grabs someone and says - "you, I need a warm body, get down there and take whatevers coming." I feel that people have a general knowledge of whats ahead in their lives if they choose to accept the challenges and triumphs, knowing that they'll be stronger in the end. But, in order to allow them free choice, their memories need to be clouded over for a while. Yes, this is getting somewhat religious so I'll leave it as, Vanyel and Stephen and many others, that had difficult choices to make and seemed to be herded, weren't in my opine, they made the choices that allowed them to grow and were the best for everyone involved in the Really long run. Introduction I know Carrach introduced himself back when we joined, but I don't remember if I did too. So here goes. I read voraciously, anything thats not mystery, horror, biographical, historical, dramatic or in any way true to life (Well, maybe a little TTL). My first Misty was Murder, Mystery and Mayhem. Later we finally found books she had written! I think SS III was the first story and then Oath... I am a house...(there's never anyway nice to say this) wife. I homeschool 2 kids, going on 4 in January (we keep a strange school schedule). I am also a colored pencil and graphite artist (working on pen and ink, tithes to Jake), I am writing several partial novels and like to write poetry too. I DM and play RPGs of many varieties, design SCA and Renfaire costumes and somewhere in there support a husband emotionally through Law School and clean the house (tithes to Lorraine). I love music of nearly all kinds and play flute, a little piano, a very little guitar and sing, tennor, alto, or soprano depending on what's needed (but not semi- or professional and only with musical accompaniment). I've just finished year 12 (senior year in US), and am frantically awaiting my results and university offers. I've just started my long awaited summer holidays, and am hoping to be doing either Medical Science or Medicine at uni next year. My introduction to Misty came through her collaberation with Piers Anthony (apologies to those who despise him, but its true!), and I then devoured all the books I could find at work, starting with LHM, which is still my fave. I work part-time in a library, which is just as well, otherwise I'd never be able to afford to read anything! I've been on the list for about four months, but have been mostly lurking. (guess who was stupid enough to catch glandular fever a couple of months before final exams?) I read almost anything I can get my hands on, but concentrate mainly on sci-fi and fantasy. Outside of that, I'm a slightly insane musician (clarinet, flute, saxophone and a little keyboard) who spends hours in rehersals and loves every minute of it. Um, what else? Oh, in RL my friends have dubbed me the Queen of Innuendo, and I've been accused more than once of having a 'sick and twisted mind', which I try and hide, so as not to scare people away! I'm insanely curious about anything and everything, which gets me into trouble on a regular basis. I try to be as open-minded as possible about everything, so I tend to have a weird collection of friends. I'm currently straight (clarification - I've only ever been involved with men, but I wouldn't discount the possibility of being involved with a woman in the future), and have been accused of being a slut by certain close-minded family members, but I prefer the term 'liberated'. Everybody awake? Wow, I'm impressed :) ********************************************* Just to make this semi-Mistyish: ObMisty - Do they have any 'doctors' in Velgarth that don't have Healing? I remember one of the Gryphon series mentioning something about Amberdrake being sent to a 'new'school of medicine by his parents (sorry, no text-evd, I don't own a copy) and disliking it, but I can't recall anything else. Any ideas? I know there would have to be herb-women, etc, and there was the guy in Magic's Price who used props to disguise his use of his talent, but were there any others? Say, some who were used on the frontline, etc? Actually, I just have an odd memory. I can remember details of some books but not the name of the characters (tigana, for example) or not remember a thing about the book -> wandering fire etc. can't remember a thing about it. nada. zip. MZB? some stuff. Beats me ... eh, kory, what the hell was the deal with the rat carcass??? Well, two years ago, we had a Japanese exchange student, and she had shoes like that, and even wore them to school sometimes, and I have no idea how she managed to walk so gracefully in them, but she did. She had a really pretty kimono like thing, that she wore too, she was such a neat person :) I;ve never met anyone sweeter in my life. 'Allo everybody! I hereby apologise in advance for anything supersilly I may say in this post. I had a really bad reaction to my asthma medication (Bricanyl) this morning, starting at 9.30 - six hours of trembles, facial tics, palpitations etc... at one point my resting heart rate was 127 per minute (Gods only know what it was when I was moving around) with arrythmia (skipping or double beats). An hour after that I was a lot better, but my "lying down completely relaxed" heart rate was still 93 (supposed to be around 60 or 70). Guess who almost got to go to hospital for observation and ECGs? Anyway, I am now OK, but I'm a bit hyper because (1) IT'S FRIDAY AFTERNOON! YAAAY!!!, (2) I'm very relieved that nothing medically horrible is happening to me any more and relief makes me bouncy, and (3) Bricanyl is an adrenaline derivative and it's still in my system. Wheeeeee! ("Why is this woman already back at work?" I hear you ask. "Because I'm stupid," I reply. Plus we already have one PA off on compassionate leave because her father died, and Friday is a Very Busy Day. And the doctor didn't actually say I'd *die* or anything, he was quite happy when my heart slowed down, and my blood pressure was fine all along, and, and...) ************ Dear Jake: I still worship you! Uh... yeah... there were bits in WG that dragged, sure, but overall I liked it. And I liked SG, I just think it could have been tighter and shorter. Er, with Hadenalith, I think he was just "on Urtho's side" because he figured he had better prospects for fun and fortune than if he joined Ma'ar. I doubt Urtho ever even knew he existed or saw his name in a report, much less met him... he was incredibly busy an' all that. *************** Welcome back everyone who has returned and isn't Jake - he got his own welcome because, Goddess though I have been named, I still worship him! And welcome to any new listmembers I haven't spotted! We are nice people, really - it's just that we're sometimes certifiably insane! I won't pounce anyone 'cause in my current state of mind I might overdo it and break something... *************** Kory said: > As much as SB seems like it could end it, MIsty has said, somewhere or > other, that she'll write 'em as long as we read 'em, or something like > that. Anybody? Well, I personally detest tofu, but each to their own tastebuds .... anyway, you could try wrapping it tightly in the cheesecloth so that it won't squish everywhere, sandwich it between two clean chopping boards, put it on the floor (somewhere the liquid coming out won't be a problem - maybe outside on the path?), put one foot on the top board and slowly shift your weight onto it until it's how you want it. Hey, it works to get the water out of one of my delicate jumpers without stretching it, though I use a towel instead of cheesecloth... ************** Esmeralda said (about Selenay's twins): > It is stated, fairly matter-a-factly by Elspeth that one will be Monarch > the other Monarch's Own. Soooooooo, > if the Companions know who's going to be MO, why fight over a shallow > bonding that's going to be broken later on? Welllll.... maybe the Companions don't know yet which is going to be which? Maybe all they know is that both are suitable to be Heralds, therefore one will be the Monarch, and that either twin would make a perfect Monarch's Own for the other... but they won't know which is best for which position until the kids have grown up a bit and fully developed their personalities? Maybe the decision won't be made either way until Talia or Selenay dies. If Talia dies before Selenay, Rolan or his replacement makes the decision between them then and there; if Selenay dies before Talia, it gets a bit more complicated, because then it's going to be the twins and the Council deciding which of them succeeds their mother, and the Companions can't come straight out and say :No, no, not *him/her* - he/she's got to be Monarch's Own later on, not the Monarch!: In that case they'd probably offer subtle advice and, if absolutely necessary, mess with their Chosens' minds, but it would be a lot more difficult! And yes, Treesa was a lapdog person. Cats usually have more dignity. ***************** Jerry Cullingford wrote: >> That wouldn't help - it'd still be a "derivative work" and > covered by copyright. Even if it *is* illegal without permission (don'taskmeIdon'tknow), Larry and Misty could still give you permission if you ask nicely. Wendy and Richard Pini (WaRP Graphics) don't mind at all - in fact, some time ago they printed in ElfQuest letters pages a whole lot of photos of tattoos, tapestries, cloth dolls, painted jackets, etc, that fans had done using their characters. I think there was even a piece of stained glass, though that may be the Bricanyl talking... anyway, one fan met them at a con and showed Wendy the WaRP logo tattooed on his shoulderblade, and she signed it "(c) WaRP Graphics 199?, Wendy Pini" with a marker... there were jokes about "does he now need our permission to reproduce?"... *********** Urrrrr... there was a thread about whether it was Karathanelan's (y'know, Elspeth's Rotten Dad) or Orthallen's plot to get Hulda to Valdemar to raise Elspeth, and which Hulda went with which Plot... lost the posts, sorry... I think that Kar** wanted to bring *his* Hulda to Valdemar to raise Elspeth so that she'd grow up Thinking The Right Things, then when he died before she got there, Orthallen's plot called for Kar**'s Hulda to be replaced with the Hulda we all know and love , so that, again, Elspeth would grow up Thinking The Right Things. (Orthallen's idea of the Right Things was, however, different from Kar**'s idea of the Right Things...) Of course, Hulda had her *own* plots going, involving Ancar and the Empire, and it all got tangled enough to be a plot from a long-running soap opera... *********** Hoo boy! Long one that time!
