Help? When did something happen to Nessa? Yes, I thought of the tapestries, and you are right about them. Tre'valen saw thim in Winds of Fate. The tapestry in question actually predated the Shin'a'in however; those particular tapestries (the *very* old ones Tre'valen sees) were made by the shaman Ravenwing, right after the Sundering. I do think that the tradition of keeping history in that manner was maintained, though. Nessa's problem in _Arrows Fall_ was Kris' death; she had quite a crush on him, and she chased him through the first two books. And she actually did achieve an intimate connection with him finally, when he and Talia returned from circuit. Kris and Talia figured out together that once she had had her way with him, she'd leave him alone.....Kris only wanted his books and his work as a Herald. In light of all this, I can see that she would be traumatized by his loss. By the way, Jen, I'm Tresta, not Treesa. Much as I adore Vanyel, and wish dearly to be his friend, I am a little young to be his mother. It's okay, though; I just figured it as a typo. :-) Kaatje has asked about "The Caring Heart". I have already answered her, but I will repeat that answer here, for anyone else who may be interested. This is, of course, my opinion. I have wondered the same thing, and I have never found a direct quote, after having read *all* the books half a million times . But there is a scene at the end of Magic's Pawn, when Van wakes up in Moondance's bed again (he is hurt very badly from dealing with Krebain) and he asks first of all if everyone is all right. Savil is so proud of him...and he starts crying because he thinks the Heralds won't want him. Savil tells him he is a Herald already; that "what makes a Herald is the heart; a caring heart that cares for others before itself." Maybe that has become a truism in Velgarth? I'm so glad that, on a whim, I asked for the book... and it's even in near-perfect condition. I was *so* excited, that I cried most of the first act in Miss Saigon . I was on an emotional high for the day. Spock would find it most illogical (yes, I love logical and rational men -- more so if they are logical and rational while showing such innocent and heartbreaking emotions ). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Firemist wrote: >>> except i've turned into a bloody alto *cry*<<< Poor baby! I know how it feels. I was an alto with the range for soprano and alto, then the following year, my teacher made me a soprano. The next thing I know, I have this wonderfully fabulous head voice with a killer range, and I'm one of the pillars supporting the soprano section. Now, I'm in chamber choir, and my choir teacher decided I should be an alto since I can read and get the really, really low notes. Now my range is still better than some in choir (2 1/2 octaves, sometimes a little more), but my "soprano" voice isn't as pretty, and it's bugging me to no end. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Deniz wrote: >>>Err... is it out yet? Yeah, I thought it was kind of odd. Darn. I was hoping that he wouldn't be in the picture, since he's on DS9. No such luck. (guess who's not a fan of Worf?) > Who wrote Swordspoint? I think that, if a MageGifted trainee has Farsight as well, well they See a bit more. Then again, I think that Kris was Mage-Gifted, sooooo (I'm thinking of the scene in the snowstorm, and Kris mentions Seeing energy fluxes (and not just Talia's uncenteredness too) -- I could find the textevd, but it's 2:45 in the morning. ). Myles: Um, I checked my Spanish-English dictionary (I'm in my first sem of Spanish and my dictionary is getting really battered) and it says turron is nougat. Don't know how accurate that is, but that's what it said. >Ele (talking to HTH): IMO, yes, you could be considered a strong personality on the list, but infamous?? What's wrong with speaking freely and passionately? I thought this was what it was all about. Myles: Have to agree with you on this one. Some people just post more often, so they get remembered more. Also, if you post a lot, you start feeling more comfortable and feeling that you can say what you want to. >Ele: I believe that this kind of group experience is an excellent opportunity for those of us who are sort of shy Myles: I think something about the fact that the net distances you from people helps a lot. I mean, even if someone "rejects" you, it wouldn't hurt as much because you've never seen the person and it's just via e-mail. Also, even if you say something horribly embarrassing, well, you'll prolly never see that person in RL anyway, so it doesn't really matter. The net sort of eliminates the risk of rejection. I even cried while reading Sarek, although I must admit I was in a crying mood at that time. Oh, someone also said something about the diff. between a Trekkie and a Trekker. I didn't know there _was_ a difference! I've been rereading S&S VII and VIII too, I think they're mostly Tarma and Kethry stories. Really.) *sigh* I didn't get into drawing class for next sem, and I was hoping I could finally learn how to draw. I promised myself I'd learn something artistic, and since I have the voice of a frog and the grace of a sheared sheep in a snowstorm, the only hope I have left is drawing.
