Lady Sophia said[concerning my relationship w/ Deniz]: >>>The Goddess of Music and Song is amused. She thought as much, but wasn't 100% sure.<<< i never thought to deceive my Goddess. i'm glad you found amusement. >>>BRAVA, Lady Woodlark. Your Goddess is exceedingly proud of you. That is a very difficult solo for a grown woman to sing, because you are expected to sound like a boy soprano.<<< thank you. i guess it helps that i'm not a completely grown woman(yes, 18 is young for singers). at least it works for me. oh, and next term, my other choir(the one that did Handel's Dixit Dominus) is doing Bernstein's Chichester Psalms. i've done those before, and love them a lot. who knows, i'll probably have a chance at the boy solo! ~~~~~~~~~~<-+AT+- religious songs Summersong wrote: >>>But the religious songs we do in choir("Glory to...", "May the Lord Bless You and Keep You", "Sunrise", etc.) really bug me. Does anyone else have this problem?<<< then Korendil(what happened to Brvaes? what's the verdict? what's the charge?) wrote: >>>Well, I got really angry when I had to do christmas junk in lower school for programs for the parents...but I wouldn't be at those latter two, since they're from Fiddler on the Roof and are Jewish--in fact, "May the Lord Keep You" was done at my Bar MItzvah by the cantor...but this is just a case at how we hate to be forced to do stuff for other's religions:(<<< and Karywathen said: >>>I do. What I've usually ended u[ doing is talking to the director ahead of time letting him know that a seasonal concert is just that a *Seasonal* concert, NOT a Christmas concert. They usually agree to cut all the religious stuff and stick with the winter themed things. I always thought it was amazing how many Christmas carols have nothing to do with Christmas.<<< i had this problem once when i was younger. i don't remember what the song was(this was in 4th or 5th grade), but i remember it had the word "Lord" in it. i burst out crying when i was told to sing it anyway. since then, i've had time to think upon these matters a lot more. when i sing something that's religion specific(any mass, requiem, dixit dominus, magnificat, ave verum, ave maria, sicut cervus, ubi caritas, etc...) i don't think of it as a specific religion's prayers that i'm performing. i look beyond the *words* and see the message of praying to *the*divine*, not one particular aspect or name of it. does this make sense? also, my conductor at my old school had a speech that he'd give us before every major concert. it went along the lines of: "This might sound corny, but I really do believe that music can change the world. When you sing this ____, you don't have to think of it a being Christian religious work. Instead, it's a prayer to whatever you believe to be Holy. If you're atheistic, celebrate the beauty of the music. The music has a message, and if we sing it with our love and our hearts, then some people out in the audience will hear and understand our message of love. It might be only a few people, but that's enough. Those few people will convert(not religiously) a few other people, and in this way, we can change the world, slowly, towards a better tomorrow and to be more loving." -- Mr. Kushner please think about this for a while and then tell me what you think. ~~~~~~~~~~<-+AT+- Owlflight Kory (so, what's the deal with Brvaes?) also said: >>>Meg asked: > By the way, just >got my copy of SB today from the SFBC and noticed a book listed on the >timeline page after the Mage Storms Trilogy called Owlflight. I forget..and the thread was only a few weeks ago. sigh.<<< the first plea was for a lesbian(because it's probably gonna be a gay guy(not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just we've already seen her portray them, and want some new material)), and then someone else said a female bisexual would be nice, too. i'll be happy with either. >>>WHo thinks my .sig is too long? I mean, I know it was when I had the 10 line Les Mis quote, but how about how it was before I got rid of quotes in general?<<< i like how it is right now. when you had those extra lines, it was really too long. and then there was the... oops... polite. ~~~~~~~~~~<-+AT+- more fluff Sophia said: >>>Lady Sophia crawls to a sitting position after not making the finals at yet another competition and replies:<<< oh dear. and do you know what i heard right when i read this? In less than a week I have to organise the packing up of one large dutch house into boxes for storage, boxes for London, boxes for my temporary dutch flat, and boxes for christmas, 'cos the suff that quits the Netherlands next week don't get delivered to London for two weeks. My husband gets made redundant in March, my contract ends in March, I have not idea where or how we'll be living by next summer. I am so stressed out I'm into the "Let me sleep for 20 hours" stage, anything to avoid facing the things-that-have-to- be-done! Still, at least I can still escape to work for a few hours a day. If you're going head to head with someone, a psi-knife would probably be more useful. Well, I have the US one too. Ian said that he had posted up the UK covers of Mage Wars and Storms on his page. I went and looked. That's what I was referring to (I went and looked). BTW - what's with Karal (is that him?) on the UK SB cover??? That whole cover is lots more metaphysical looking than the mutant squid.... Also, who the hell are those people on the SR cover? It looks like a woman or two (neither of whom look like they're Natoli) and a bald guy. Huh? (on a side note, when we were discussing pronunciations, I kept meaning to say that I pronounce Natoli as "Natalie", or however the RL name is spelled. You know, we do see a bit of mind control. It's in AFall, when Talia and Rolan make the two servants look and seem to be her and Kris. They give them false memories, and they become "a sketchy sort of Talia and Kris." (paraphrase there) And hey, we've already seen something that Prof X does. Lastel Longknife had a Gift that made people see him as someone they know. IIRC, Xavier has done that a few times. Or at least just made people see things that aren't really there. I'd like to see true telekinesis in Velgarth. Actually, I think it might be there, but we just haven't seen it. At one point, Kris or someone sees a student carrying a stack of dishes and says, "that youngster better have one of the Fetching Gifts, or else he's going to lose that stack." This implies more than one Fetching Gift. I think one type is what Dirk has, aka teleportation. But that's not really TK. The only time I think we've seen it was in 'Lendel's fits. It was something like a combination of his Mage and Fetching Gifts, Savil said. It sounds like TK to me. > psi-arrows... if someone jumps you from behind.
