Message-ID: [dragon*con update] - Room Reservations & stuff ... I now have a room reservation in the Hyatt Regency (the main con hotel) for all four nights for Dragon*Con. I'll be leaving early Thursday, June 26, from Charleston SC, and plan to be in Atlanta about 2pm or so (earlier, if I can manage it). This is a non-smoking room, with 2 double beds in it (meaning we can probably get 5 people in there, maybe 6). The room rate is $122 per night, plus tax; if we can get 6 people, for all four nights, this means less than $100 per person for housing for the entire Con! Contact me via private email to let me know if you want to share the room space and expenses with me. The room bill will be paid Thursday night, so be prepared to pay for your share of the room in advance (we learned about this the hard way 2 years ago! =) ). I'll post to the list about room status at regular intervals. Looking forward to seeing you there in June (with Misty!) A while ago I started POUNCING on newcomers and others for some reason that I don't remember. It was just my way of saying hello. Well needless to say everyone thought I was a little hyper just cuz I took a running start, I don't know why they thought that. Some time after that I think Jake our resident GOd of Humor and author to be (I hope, I hope, I hope - I wanna read the d88m book already) nominated me as the Goddess of Hyperness and Overbubbliness. I'm not insane just nuts. BOy I really need something on topic now. Wait time to hunt for a book here - can't find it. Anyways, about the bond bird discussion. I think if my memory serves me, that it was said that the only time that a Hawkbrother could die if the bondbird dies is if the Hawkbrother is in trance and sharing the bondbirds body. I think I remember them talking about finding a Hawkbrother dead in his ekele that starved to death because he was in full trance with his bondbird. I'll look for the textevd as soon as I sign off. Also mishi thanks for the ponce - reminds me of a artist/friend Tygger. Yep, I think your right about if the bondbird dies when the Hawkbrother is linked they both will die. Also in the first part of WofF it is mentioned a couple of times that a Hawkbrother may not be able to "pull out" the first time he/she links with thier bondbird. If this happens thier mind/soul is locked in the bondbird and eventually will merge with the bird and vanish because the bondbird does not have the mental capacity to support the Hawkbrothers mind/soul. WofF also mentions one Hawkbrother who had been trapped unter a fallen tree so he deliberatly merged with his bondbird and left his dying body behind. The bondbird eventually left the vale. There details on the loss of self/intelligence latter in the Winds books when Mornelithe captures the women Hawkbrothers bondbird (the one which becomes an Avatar, sorry I can't recall her name.) About focus stones: we know from the _Magic_ books that HeraldMages need them cause they talk about how Van got one for Savil, and Stef got one for Van, etc. But why don't they ever mention needing focus stones in Elspeth's time? I mean, if they needed focus stones then, why not now? Does it have something to do with learning new ways to focus magic? I thought that it might have been because HeraldMages don't use the ley-lines or whatever, but then realized that that couldn't be it, cause although the other HeraldMages of Van's time (that astronomer guy and so on) didn't seem to use ley-lines and nodes, Van and his aunt still did, and they STILL needed focus stones. Am I babbling or does it make a little sense? I'm in a hurry writing this because I have a final in 30 mins . William Golding wrote _The Princess Bride_, and although it was ok, I prefer the movie MUCH more. If you have seen the movie already, then I might suggest at least skimming it. It has a lot of humour value. I mean they keep insinuating comments like "this was before suchandsuch was invented" when it's..well, i guess i'mbabbling again. But for the pure aspect of seeing the differences between movie and book, you MIGHT want to read it. But I didn't find it nearly as well put together as the movie. I found myself extremely disappointed, actually. Am I the only one who felt that way when reading it? Well, at the end of this week I am going to unsub for a while. 3 weeks at least til school starts, and probably not til I have my schedule in order and straightened. Well, the shower fairy gave me an idea. In LHM, we see the Herald-mages using focus stones, right? And we see how imortant they are to be able to take nodal energy and make it their own without expending more effort than necessary. I don't remember the Tayledras being shown as using focus stones at all, and Valdemar doesn't seem to need them when Elspeth comes into power. This all led me to a conclusion. The Tayledras don't need a stone because their link to the Heartstone acts as the same thing. The Herald-mages needed them because they did not have any thing to link to that would buffer the effects. Elspeth doesn't need one because she was tied to the Tayledras Heartstone and when she enters Valdemar, she doesn't need one because she is tied to the Heartstone in Haven by Gwena. Okay, I'm ready for holes to be shot in this, but I think it's a perfectly nice theory. What about painters/artists in Valdemar? We know the Shin'a'in and Tayledras created tapestries and such but I can't remember any mention of this in Valdemar. Okay, Akiko has Trek trivia so I've got 2 for you folks who watch Friday the 13th the Series. 1. What is in the mirror in the opening credits? 2. What is the name of the street the Curious Goods store is on? If everyone likes this, I may continue. I haven't been signed on long with the Mercedes-lackey club. I have read everything that she has in print. I love her work. My first intro to her writing was the arrow's flight series. Dalton's today. It has 3 co-authored Misty stories in it. Most of the stories are pretty good. Amazon has received them also and should ship orders for them this week. I was reading it at lunch today, and the waiter looked at the cover & asked me if it was a book by "that woman with a car name"? He said he'd only read 1 of her books and didn't really like it (it was Storm Rising), so for a tip I left him a copy of AoQ and Sword of Ice. To all the Vicki/Henry/Cellucci fans of Tanya Huff, her 5th novel in the series, Blood Debt, is due out March/April 97. Kimberly said: >>First off, I don't think the Arrows Concordance is canon. > >First off, I DO think it's canon;> Shall the list debate it?;> >::flush:: What Concordance? This is a fairly new mag-style book available from Firebird Music (website http://www.usa.net/firebird). In the forward it states that it is a guidebook and an interesting collection of trivia. I think that's a good definition. No, I don't think it is conon because it was not written by Misty. However, it brings together in alphabetical order names, places, song titles, festivals, (you get the idea). It covers AotQ, AFlight, AFall, the short story in Horse Fantastic, and two tapes, Herald, Harpers & Havoc and Lovers, Lore & Loss. Definitely interesting but if you think that something doesn't quite jive with your memory, check it out because you may be right. Give it a try, I really like mine. Good thing I have a day off from work tomorrow - off to the Bookstore I go. I was supposed to pick my Mom up from the hospital. (At 86 she went in for a complete knee replacement because she could hardly walk) But all of a sudden they say she has a touch of pneumonia and they want to keep her a few more days. Of course I had scheduled Wed and Thu off as vacation days so I could do what I needed to in getting her settled at home again. I guess Murphy strikes again. At least I will be able to finish my Christmas cards and pick up the new bookl (Me thinks I had better finish the cards before I go off to the book store--sometimes my priorities can be skewed by a new book) >She chuckles< Yes, no kidding!! Those who do that type of thing, please think healing clear lung thoughts for my Mom. This could really mess up Christmas for the family.
