Heyla!
I guess that means that there 4 of us on line today...  I'm half way through
SoI.  I enjoyed the story on how Sayvil & met oh what's his name, the
hawkbrother.  I just drew a total blank.  Must be from too much Holiday cheer
& not enough sleep.  I had my annual party last night (poor computer,  it had
six kids downloading games from aol; a two people who had never been on the
internet, looking for the X-files forum & getting hopeless lost; and a 3 year
old playing Reader Rabbit...).  Unfortunately, I left the book at my
sister's, so I'd have to go out into the pouring rain (boy is it coming
down!!!) if I want to finish it.  Lucky me, my work's Holiday Party is
tonight.  I am looking forward to the party, but the 30 mile drive out
there... ugh.

<giggle> I am still here too, or rather I am back, since I postponed for
a couple of weeks while I tarvelled. So, that makes at least 4 of us. I
know there are more out there. Bvraves (sp?) is still around (or ratehr
never left since his PC (ooops, sorry, Mac) is at home AFAIK. He will
have some trouble braiding with the little there is around.

So, let's strive for some Misty content. Morgana was wondering about
Sword of Ice (SoI)
I have copied the Bibliomancer's outline od the book. It is basically a
collection of short stories based in Valdemar, edited by Misty, and
coauthored by her in some cases. Sword of Ice itself seems to be the
story of Savil's meeting with Starwind (at last). My own copy is still
on its way to me. Amazon sent me a message saying that it had already
been shipped, so I intend to read it as soon as it comes. Chance is the
story of Van's relationship with a shaych guard who gets mentioned in
the LHM. Will let you know if I find out more.

	Hi everyone!  I'll be on postpone for the next couple of weeks.
I'll be leaving for Chicago, and won't have access.  *sniff*  I'll miss
everybody!!!

	I'm horribly jealous of everyone who has read SoI.  But I'm happy
happy happy right now, coz I just got SG, and the first 3 of the Bardic
Voices books from SFBC, and it's just on time, coz I'm leaving tomorrow.
I also borrowed the Lost Swords stuff by Saberhagen (?) and a couple of
books by Pterry.  You guys seem to like him, so I figured I should check
it out.  Half my luggage will consist of books.  I wonder, does it snow a
lot in Chicago?  I'm trying to decide if I should be practical and bring
my boots with the soles that have traction so I won't slip and fall on my
face, or if I should be vain and wear the boots that'll make me taller.
/me grins.  See how vain I am?  *sigh*  Well, I'm rambling.  I still have
to move into my new room, I conscripted my housemate into helping me move
my furniture, and I need to pack for tomorrow!

I am still here.  I want to know what people think of the SERRAted Edge
novels.  I know recently someone stated that they were brain candy.  I
disagree, I think that they simply serve a different purpose than the
Valdemar books.  Opinions?

Thanks for the welcome back! The trip was superb, thank God. I even
enjoyed the cold (those of you who have low blood pressure will
understand, I'm sure). New York before Xmas is very bit as beautiful as
I imagined it. 
I spent most of my money on Broadway shows. Went to see Les Mis, the
Phantom, Cats and the Showboat. I adored Les Mis and the Phantom, but
specially Les Mis, although I cried my way through it (that decided me
not to go and see Miss Saigon, lest I might flood the theatre). I also
bought LOTS of books, which means I now have a lot of unread material.

I got the mail digests from the period I missed, but I have not been
able to read them yet. I just skimmed a little. 

I would like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Personally, this will be my most difficult Xmas ever, since it will be
the first after my grandmother's death. We always spent these
festivities with my grandparents, and she always gave us the handknit
pieces she had made for each of us along the year. So, I apologise in
advance in case I become either too silent, subdued, irksome, impatient,
or downright bitchy, as Xmas Eve approaches.  I'll try not to, I
promise. 

Know that I love you all, and that you are friends I seek with hours to
live and not with hours to kill, which is as should be, as Kahlil Gibran
says. 

I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and evry one of you
for being there and sharing this wonderful experience.

Helya, i just got back from nine hours of bussing tables on the Saturday
night before xmas in Hell. I never new that hell had xmas music playing in
the background and smelled like a mexican restauraunte.

(bet you were wondering whether or not that was a type-o or intentional, well
live in ignorance!) I believe Lihra irden wrote that dwarven main characters
tend to die more so than those of other races.  I must agree with the lovely
lady Lihra Whatchamacallit.  In the majority of books that I have read (not
counting books on history, cooking, satanism (check in the hobby section of
your local book stores), Wicca, druids, etc.) the dwarven mainish characters
have been either run through, decapitated, disinegrated, or died of some
unknown disease.  I do admit that there are gads of books which I have not
read that this has not happened in, so quick the flaming.  And if you insist
on flaming would you be so kind as to at least turn me every five minutes so
that I cook evenly.  Much abliged.

We must be brave!  Now is not the time to be timid.  Many of our ilk will be
away for the holidays, but that is no reason to lurk in the shadows.  I will
not lie to you.  Maintaining the sanctity of the Mercedes Lackey List is no
easy task.  If we all bring our energies together, we will pull through.
 There is no doubt in my mind that between all of us who remain we can still
keep the list fires burning and defend against the monsters that lurk out
there on the internet.  This will be are finest hour.  Misty would be proud!

Dunno. We're pretty much divided in opinion over DT books, I think. Some
think it was awfully dull, and I personally consider CotN one of my
favorite books by anybody (Ender's Game being my favorite, then LHM tril.,
CotN, then Lucy Gayheart by Willa Cather <sheeps>).

It's tres fabu! I loved it so much that I got my friend, who is a picky
reader of Danielle Steele (which is a contradiction, IMHO) a copy of it for
X-mas. It's a Must Read (tm), very,very good. As I've said up there, it's
one of my fave books, Misty or not.

On Bardic Voices & unoriginal fantasy:
I partially blame my friend's reluctance to try Misty on those recycled
fantasy novels. Last year, he read what you may refer to as "medieval
adventure plus magic" novels. He absolutely hated it ... to quote, "What's
the point?" Now he won't even try Children of the Night, which I feel is
rooted somewhat into the real world in that the setting is NYC. Of course,
he does not want to read LHM, which he paraphrased after my description:
"Sulky gay boy gets pretty white horsie... okay, sure, that sounds great!"
ARGH! What could I do to make him "see the light"! He already watches the
X-Files, though, so I thought DT would be good for him... any opinions?

who don't get their DS9 and Voyagers at the time of U.S. showings... shoot,

ARGH! My friend Carrie still has my copy of Imzadi. I want it back!!!!! I
agree; PD is the best Trek writer around. I think William Shatner is a bit
arrogant in writing about Kirk. It's nice to have insights, but he can't do
so without rubbing in our faces: "Kirk is the first, and he is the best",
which is his opinion, of course. Actually, in the pilot, it was Captain

A.C. Crispin, and _The Devil's Heart_ by Carmen Carter (I think that was
her name...).

NOOOO! There were only 5 messages in the last digest!!!!! Oh well. Anyway,
the reason I haven't heard any of HA's stuff is that my mother does not
consider filk as real music -- she barely tolerates my Elton John, she
likes Billy Joel, she loves Reba, LeAnn Rimes, and Garth Brooks. She frowns
at me reading SF/F because, like my friend Carl, she does not consider SF/F
to be real books, especially when they have a YA targeted cover (can you
say... Jody Lee?), dragons (Pern a la Michael Whelan), and starships
(Ender's Game). She especially hates it when it has pointy eared people in
uniforms (can you say -- Star Trek?). So I have a tiny little dilemma
there...

Oh well, enough of this depressing crap. Happy Holidays everyone -- I'll
still be here until 12/26 (or 26/12 to European residents). From the 26th
to the 30th, I'll be in NYC.... Anyway, I've gots to go. Byeeeeeee!
