Aistes' birthing-day, for one. Aistes, on your birthday, I gift thee with a golden candle; for joy. It'll never stop burning, and it'll remind you of hope on your birthday, and if you're ever cold, you'll have a warm creation shining bright to bring you back to more joyous times. ******************* Hades wrote: >As far as I can guess, reading about lifebonded people could >either make a person feel hopeful and happy that such relationships are >indeed imaginable or bitter that they know that such relationships can only >exist in fiction books. *sigh* I give up. Yes, Hades, you guessed aright and this is indeed a bloody repeat topic. It comes in a close second to the "which Heralds are reborn as Companions" for frequency, but it ~must~ be interesting or it wouldn't come up so bloody often. So... What makes you think lifebonds are perfect relationships? Would you ~like~ to spend your life like Vanyel did, waiting for Tylendel to come along again? You can't get your life in order, because you never knew what it was like to be an ~individual~ Lifebonds take into account neither the relative maturity of either partner, nor the sort of complete honesty that makes relationships and the people within them grow, nor the appropriateness of the situation. Your choices are limited to what you both want, and that means both of you have to be strong. Textevd, WoFury, lifebonds usually only occur with the strongly- Gifted and suicidal, to give them a focus outside themselves. How likely is it that someone who needed something like that is going to be strong? It's incredibly tempting to let someone else pull the load for you; we all know that. If we let that go too far, we can ~never~, ever learn to deal with life. Kerowynn posted that if she were to suddenly get lifebonded (which doesn't have a snowflake's chance on a frying pan, since she looks more-or-less stable *grin*) she would have no choice in the matter. She'd have to drop her husband, home, and even her children, if she had any, because that would be the choice she'd have to make in order to keep her lifebonded. Or alternately, not do so, live with it, and feel her lifebonded's misery from across the country. Do you have any idea how difficult it is for me to disagree with someone IRL? It feels like stabbing myself in the gut. I've been cursed with the ability to read facial expressions well ~and~ with a memory that captures any time I've hurt anyone, with crystal clarity. I wouldn't choose any other life if you paid me millions for it, but it's not always fun. Oh gods *sigh* please, don't misunderstand. I'd answer yes to all of the above questions and judge the price worthy, knowing how much I care about my kechara, but he's already my choice. Always. And I'll stick by it. If I lost him, I'd turn it inward, and I think I might kill myself (which is usually what you end up doing in a lifebond because you've given everything else up. I don't know if you'd choose that option) Or, if I survived, I wouldn't be able to trust as much anymore, and something that was special and unique would have been gone. And after opening up every barrier you have, the scars never give quite the same feeling, though you can recover something. (Which is why you shouldn't go about cutting your wrists open) It would be like world of snow after color, like a moon grinning bone-white, a knife-sharp smile against an impossible silence in the sky. Like the flatness on the faces of blank guidance counselors or nurses, brightness that hurts, it'd be pale and waxy and dead, like being someone who's been bled dry of milk. Like it was before. But the love'd always be with me, and I don't know if I could bear that. *sudden smile* I think I'd better stop before I depress everyone too much, and ruin my original happy intent, though ;D Warding, and wind to thy wings, Kimberly ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Dec 96 11:39:00 PST From: Wyrick D TSgt CS/SCBC To: mercedes-lackey Subject: RE: Helloooooooooo? You know, I read one of those Goosebumps books (The Babysitter II) and found them really disturbing.
