I've been trying, but I just can't seem to learn. To Deniz Sarikaya, High Priestess of Procrastination, Holy Custodian of the BDay List: (or whoever is now in charge) My birthday is March 17th. I'll probably be turning an age Too Young For This List, so I won't tell you. In order to keep the mail on the list down, I think I would prefer private mail to Liseth-+AT+-aol.com, just make sure I know its coming from someone on this list, I'm really terrible with names. Another thing, as the Holy Custodian of the BDay List, you might know how many people are on the list here. Could you tell me? I want to know how many people I'm writing to. To Lady Thess, Goddess of Nomenclature or Cennydd, Mage of Green Silences, God of Karma, Avatar of Nomenclature: :::Liseth carefully carves a sheep-shaped table out of redwood and places it on the alter of sacrifice, then runs away and hides under a nearby table in case the Goddess of Nomenclature decides to make a personnal visit:: To Aistes: I was going to make some comment about including more than one thing in each post, but it seems you have caught on to that. To Kerowyn k'Sheyna: I hope you don't mind me pointing this out, and I probably am not the only one who will, but Daren freed peasants in Hardorn from control by a bloodmage. They also did not remember who they were and knew only what the bloodmage had done to their families. I've seen the Arrows trilogy in most bookstores (paperback). If you can't find them there, you might try a used book store. Personnally, these are my favorite in the series (especially AotQ), but I'll let you form your own opinion. In "Stolen Silver," the Karsite priest goes after Alberich because of his gift. He (the priest) attributes it to demons (or something like that). But, under Solaris, that seems to have changed. Karal doesn't think that Altra or Florian are demons, and he uses mindspeech to communicate with them. But, the fires were probably also used to rid the populace of so-called "trouble makers." Karal doesn't >think that Altra or Florian are demons, and he uses mindspeech to >communicate with them. Okay I think it was in the first book that Karal does think that Florian is a demon, because of long years with no bond to Valdemar except hate. So he did think Florian was a demon but at the end came to be good friends anyways. So he could overcome the biases that his people had enacted upon Valdemar and could stop thinking of them as demons. I at one point even heard rumours about them working on the next book. Now I hear the Andre Norton is sick and that they aren't even working on the 3rd book about he ElvenBane. Could somoeone please tell me what is happening with it? Okay now about the new books that Mercedes has out. What are they all about and how do you find them so quickly,. My area has yet to get the hardcover to the last Storm books. So how do you all find the books so fast. One of them is short stories right? Who does it deal with if this is correct. Which characters are in the stories. Is OwlFlight (I think that is what it is called) about Wintermoon or someother bird kin. Can someone please send me a list if they have one. Of where to find the Misty Shortstories.? I have been looking to find most of them but I have had no luck in even locating any more of the S&S books. (wish me luck. :) ) I've been a great fan of sci-fi/fantasy for most of my life (both my parents are into it, so I was practically raised on it), and I've read Misty books for quite a few years now. I have to admit that I was a bit relieved to hear some dissatisfaction from people on this list over some of her more recent works.... I -did- like the _Fire Rose_, but some of her other recent stuff has seemed a bit too formulaic for my taste (such as _The Eagle and the Nightengale_). However, I'm a big fan of most of the Valdemar series... yay for strong female characters! Anyway, enough of this boring intro post... I hope everyone has a wonderful (and safe) New Years. --kris __________________________________________________________________________ | Kris Frye | He was rounder than the average graduate and wore | | kfrye-+AT+-reed.edu | more hats. --Douglas Adams | ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Dec 1996 19:53:11, -0500 From: nomorehappyface-+AT+-prodigy.com (MISS TRICIA ELLIS) To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Internet Message Message-ID: <199612310053.TAA24512-+AT+-mime2.prodigy.com> Chris or Sean Talbo asked >Now really what is the difference between a mage gifted person and one who>is only gifted with say the ability to see at a distance. (for once) also, it seems like mages can detect magic, but they can't detect mind magic. there's all this talk of the "Flaming of Aistes". could someone let me know why Aistes was flamed, just so i don't make the same mistake, please? i'm kind of surprised i haven't been publicly torched yet. well, maybe i have, i just don't know it... uh.. that's all, really ------------liha'irden ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Dec 1996 00:29:27 -0500 From: Renee Boykin To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: New books by Misty, Message-ID: <32C4B037.AB5-+AT+-nightshade.ml.org> > One of > them is short stories right? There is a short story Lammas Night book, so I figured perhaps the others might have short stories about THEM too. Do you know anything about that? (Sorry to answer a question with a question, but you're the only one I've ever seen mention short stories.) I just love those -- my favorite is the one about optimism: An optimist is someone who tells you to cheer up when things are going his way. I crack up when I read that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Anywho, I'm BAAACK! I spent four days in NYC, and I had a blast. Kory, I finally got to see Les Mis, and I absolutley loved it. It was brighter and more optimistic than Miss Saigon. Eponine was my favorite character other than Jean Valjean, because I thought her life after Cosette left was tragic, yet she stayed strong, she stood by her friend Marius despite her feelings. But I still think she should have gone for him when she had the chance. I resented Cosette for it, but then again, I didn't much like the adult Cosette (the chick who played Cosette had this shrill voice that really grated on my nerves). The other musicals I got to see were: Sunset Boulevard (FABULOSO!!!!!), Rent (I loved it, loved it, loved it), and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (I LOVE NATHAN LANE!). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kerowynn wrote: >>>They definately could've found someone better, but gee, *CAN* Antonio Banderas sing???? I still think that Rosanna Barr could've done a better job at playing Evita than Madonna, okay maybe not that far but you get my picture hehe!<<< Actually, after seeing Elaine Paige (sp?) as Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard and after reading that she did the original role of Eva Peron, I think she should have done Evita. From what I hear from my mother, Antonio Banderas can sing. I wouldn't trust her judgement, though. Her idea of "good singing" is Harry Connick, Jr., who I kind of like, but not for his singing. And yes, Rosanne could do it better; I hope Andrew Lloyd Webber doesn't completely ruin his reputation with this film about his judgement in casting.... *Did* he have any choice in who gets to play Evita? I really wish he didn't because then I'd be sure of his ability, not only as a composer, but an artist who values his work. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Aistes wrote: >>>Can anyone suggest some great Fantasy authors? Midori Snyder's Queen's Quarter Knot. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WELCOME BEVIE&DAVE&S'HAWK&LISETH!!!!!!!!!! Love your name, Beverly! BTW, I'm pretty much the House Trekster (hey, I invented a new word!), and I ramble on about Star Trek (in any given incarnation, but especially Lt. Cmdr. But it's a school event it won't be *gasp* appropriate for a *gasp* school environment! Personally, I'd love to do Magenta's solo. I love that part ... or maybe Columbia's solo. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Okay, I'm done, after a 5-day hiatus. My name is Lydia Hales, I am a senior in music performance and sociology at Portland State University in Oregon (USA). I've been on the list all of five days, and found out about it on Internet. My favorite authors are Misty (naturally) and Jordan. My favorite characters are Tarma and Kerowynn. Related to the list, and sorry about the public post, but how the bleep do you braid????!!!! I can't figure it out for the life of me. In Oathbreakers, it is mentioned that the children of Kethry and Jadrek would have to split time between the Plains and the outside world. Something about alternating seasons in different years, so that they would see the Plains in all seasons, in order to make an informed choice. My question is this: it seems that they would spend the majority of the year either in travel or on the Plains. So how did Tarma and Kethry succeed in running a school? Not to mention, most of the children's experinece would be in travel; talk about always being in transition. I'm generally not in a bad mood anytime, eternally optimistic almost 100% of the time, but the down side is that when I get depressed, I get *reeeealllyyy* depressed. It never lasts very long though. And although unhealthy, if I am in a bad mood, you probably can't tell, because I'm just as perky as ever on the outside. > > My first braid. So how did it turn out. Hopefully all right since I don't > know what else to put into these things. Was it long enough and with enough > qouted text and writing? > It was fine, don't worry about length, it doesn't have to be the size of a normal digest to be a braid. It's not the length that makes anything good or bad, it's the content. If you don't think something is long enough, you don't need to worry about adding useless stuff to just fill up space. We won't measure them :) Just a note about braiding, being in digest mode makes it a *whole* lot easier. You do have to be careful about attributions sometimes, and yo have to snip a lot, but overall, I have found that it is great for people who have trouble with braiding. For those of you who (like me) have trouble keeping up, and get easily overwhelmed, digest mode makes it extremely easy. Come on, admit it, how many of you have come back after a few days, been so overwhelmed that you just deleted everything? I think I've done it at least three or four times. :) Bye all!
