A good friend of mine suggested reading Storm Constentine series abou the Wraeththu. It is more about the evolution of humans into a society of what are basically hermaphrodites. The idea of including both genders into one body. It is a three book series. Really neat. Dealing with gender issues is always difficult. But I for one definately think being in touch with both sides of yourself is enormously helpful. Lady Becky, I'm afraid you forgot to add your new position to you sig. It may be a good idea to add that in (of course, I don't even know how to make a sig, so who am I to talk?) There have been an increasing number of unsigned posts landing in my mail-box. How do I know who to attribute remarks to if they aren't signed? Yes, they're awesome. I reread them now and then to stay humble... >Rolan (if Talia dies) He would get on I think. And why he doesn't talk to Talia more when she is acting up/in trouble- 'It does not work that way...' - both Tantris and Ahrodie in AFall say this IIRC. Makes sense too, see Dirk and Elspeth on the road to Hardorn. BTW - somebody (Lady Windsong?? to quick delete) thought Rolan was the only one to choose again, seems Selenay in AotQ specifically says the other Companions may or may not. (No textevd, book in hiding, pleas somebody help) >ShadowWolf Sounds great to me - but if you feel wrong about it now how about S'wolf? Or (sounds worse) L'loup (french??) or Lupus (latin) >Kaled'a'in I think Misty slipped up there, about using gates or not. I believe WhiteG and Winds Kaled'a'in are the same tribe. The rest fits. They used a different gate from the others, two gates to be precise. >Souls masculine/feminine Lots of sibs have been typing in on this one - MHO is that we're both, some more balanced than others but also this balance _changes_ slightly at times, depending on who you meet. Coping with being attracted to the "wrong" sex all the time/sometimes can be deadly/horrible no matter which side you are on. But getting through it, ending with accepting oneself gets your feet closer to the ground but fligth is easier all the same. The edges get softened if you don't end in bitterness. I very much like the Valdemar motto, (repeated for quality) "There _is_ no one, true way." (mage winds) i mean, if you could spend eternity hanging ot with your lifebonded, wouldn't you? that's all... i'm sure a good fifteen people will disagree with half of this post, so i'm bracing myself. ----liha'irden ----hades, where in blazes did you go?!?!? ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 4 Jan 1997 14:58:17 -0800 From: davidt-+AT+-cet.com (D H Tiffany/Shawn Marie Walker) To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Er...Authors and stuff Message-ID: Liseth-+AT+-aol.com wrote: >One author I have to recommend enthusiastically is Anne McCaffrey. Uhm I should point out that Ms McCaffery always recommends people read those books in the order written (Dragon Flight, Dragonquest, D'song, D'singer, White D'gon, D' Drums, Moreta's Ride, Nirilka's story, RoP, AtWoP IIRC) (hey the 70's were a bit hazy for me) >I seemed to like Dragonsdawn, so I must like sci-fi in my fantasy. > They have gone down hill of late, and personnally I didn't much like All the >Weyrs of Pern. I disagree, of course I am the wierdo who thinks the Storms tril is better than Arrows was! That starts with To Ride Pegasus and Pega >sus in Flight, though those two are not my favorite. Actually those were around for years before Rowan & Damia were expanded from their original novellas. (Dates were "Lady in the Tower" 1959(expanded to become The Rowan 1990), "A Meeting of Minds" 1969(became Damia 1992), "To Ride Pegasus" 1973) Way back in those hazy 70's nobody I knew thought the two cycles were even connected. >Also there is the Crystal Singer Trilogy that I think is >pretty good. The Helva stories were written from '61 to '69 and collected as "ship Who Sang" also '69. (exception of course is Honeymoon (1977)) And the first of the collabs was in 1992. BTW, am I the only one who wishes that, since Ms McCaffery seems to only be interested in revisting old stories these days, that we could get some more set in the "Restoree" novels universe? >Terry Pratchett: no comment. >ObMisty: Does anyone other then me want to know more about the founding of >Valdemar?
