I own one and have friends who won't even buy a used book, go figure. Also your local stores should be able to order anyone you want. I have checked the listings and cant see any that aren't in print right now so one way or another they should be out there!! Message-ID: <9701132340.AA20762-+AT+-udecc.engr.udayton.edu> Grrr. WinterRobin, you are interfering with my homework . You said: >I agree with this but I also think that when someone is close to >death or is in quite a lot of pain, they would rather have death than >the pain and would welcome it with open arms. I agree with this one too. Our pastor has been dying of cancer for the last four years or so (they told him six months, and they underestimated...by a lot!), and he is getting tired of it. He is ready to die, but he hasn't yet. People get tired of fighting constant pain/agony (you can get quite used to agony if you just can forget what it is like to _not_ be in pain) and at that point, death is the best possible thing. That's why I like the Shadow-Lover as a Death archetype. Lots happier than the Grim Reaper, and a lot more realistic... Now I can be fluffy and complain about the weather . Actually, it's not the cold that's the problem, it's the lack of heat in my dorm... The furnace is broken, and the building is so cold that the elevators have stopped working! My fingers keep turning blue and _very_ stiff, and my hip was acting up from the weather change, and the cold made it worse. Waaah! Does anyone know of a good engineering school in the southern hemisphere? It has been awhile since I wrote so I am going to reintroduce myself briefly . . . My name is Kathy, I have read tons of Misty, and I work as a research assistant. Aimee wrote: >"Come, Lady Death," or something like that. It has been a REALLY >long time since I read it, but, iirc, Lady Death in that story was very polite >and gentle I read a short story, can't remember where, but it was about some Death-entity who ripped the life from his victims. One day he ripped it from a child and the mother(?) got so mad at the look of pain on the child's face that she chased Death down and killed him -- and ended up taking his place. Her method of bringing death was to give a kiss.restriction?. ********************************************************* Sinnigam wrote: >After all if some of the companions had used magic directly then > some heralds might not have lost their lives. Doesn't it say in the Winds trilogy about the Companions using magic just to sustain themselves in that world? And that it makes them use so much that that is why they are bleached completely white. Perhaps just being a companion makes them a mage or channel despite previous existence, and they use so much that there isn't any ability or whatever it is that allows them to use the magic left to cast spells and such. Sorry that was so convoluted. ******************************************************* Ok, now a quick question of my own that I am sure has been covered but if some wonderful person could email me personally I would be forever grateful -- Isn't there an Arrows Concordance or something of that nature published and can it be found in amazon??? Many thanks, Kathy ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Jan 1997 19:22:56 -0500 (EST) From: Annette <00AMSTEW-+AT+-alma.edu> To: MERCEDES-LACKEY-+AT+-HERALD.CO.UK Subject: a different view of death Message-ID: <01IE6BC0CSVQ91XPHW-+AT+-alma.edu> I also liked Misty's image of death. Death isn't something to be feared. Neither should it be loved either. Might I suggest "On a Pale Horse" by Piers Anthony as another great book presenting death in a more positive manner. I loved "If I Pay Thee Not In Gold" which he coauthored with Misty by the way. Also, I also suggest a used book store for those hard to find books. You probably won't find what you're looking for on the shelf but usually the owner can special order what you want for you. And at a lower price than what the regular bookstores are asking. All you have to do is ask. Okay, I've stuck my neck out. I just joined the list today and this is my first attempt at a response. Feel free to criticize and give advice. newbie Annette ------------------------------ Date: 13 Jan 1997 23:25:18 -0000 From: "Katie P." That is true to (her name started with a T). In the Firebird catalog, there is one song that is called "Her Father's Eyes", which is what I thought a female version of "My Lady's Eyes" Just out of curiosity, how many people think that Kero's companion used to be Vanyel's aunt. She behaves just like her, and the names are similar. WinterRobin, my thanks for your welcome back and your thoughts about death and pain etc. Currently we are in a big debate on euthanasia in Australia with all the cliched responses. I try to accept those who rail against it but I have been involved (as a nurse) in too many situations where the patient's right to die was ignored. Emily also put it so well. I like Misty's conception of death - as being embraced in his or her or maybe even their arms. Death should not be feared but seen as a part of life, but I know that when that life is too short, it is hard to do so. I have just finished watching the Emanations episode of ST:Voyager which also discusses death well. While a lot of you freeze - we continue to swelter. Emily - do you want a good engineering school to study in or work in? Mind you my office isn't air conditioned and there is only so much clothing one can remove without people either swooning with ecstacy or ducking for cover!
