Concerning Vanyel's likability; I liked Vanyel a great deal, but it's 
because I knew what he was thinking as I read the book.  His motives were 
very noble but he didn't share with people why he was doing things. He 
just did them.  Some of the things he did would seem absolutely crazy 
unless you knew his motive for doing them.  Stefan tried to find out 
those motives and tried to share Van's burden but he couldn't get past 
the ice wall.  If I met Vanyel in person, I would probably think he's 
very arrogant and self-important.  I wouldn't see the self-doubt and 
struggles going on in his head and heart.  Not many books make me cry but 
I cried for Vanyel when he lost Tylendel.  It was because Misty let me in 
on his inner self that I cared that much for him. Sorry, if all of this 
has been said before but Vanyel has to be the character that I've cared 
about the most in all my reading.

Lady Sara--You're an <ER> fan too?  Pleased to meet you!  The look on poor
Benton's face in that scene was priceless.  :)  I'm glad Carter's going to
be learning under Dr. Hicks now.  She's eminently sensible, and won't put
up with nonsense, which is something he needs.  He's been screwing up too
much and needs to get his act together.
     I'm still waiting for him to get a patient who's brought in half
unconscious, sees his nametag and says, "John Carter...of Mars??"

Cenydd--Oh, I definitely agree with you about good characters sometimes
being unlikable.  I write Aerden as a character, and I am constantly
surprised if people like him.  (g)  I should think he'd be h*ll to live
with or work with.
     If anyone's read the Pennington books by K. M. Peyton, that's another
example.  I kept wanting to whup Pennington upside the head and tell him to
relax.  :)

I haven't written before, but I've been a "silent" reader for a week or
so....I must congratulate this list on coming up with  most interesting
topics to comment and dicuss on from what I have seen...I'm a recent
Misty fan;"The Firerose"being the first book I've ever read by her
....goodgrief, Methinks my literature has been deprived up until now!

I was just thinking about the disasters that were brought about when
elementals are on the "imbalance" and I thought....possibly the air
caused disaster could be something akin to twisters and hurricanes which
cause much damage to the land and all that lives on it....could it
possibly be that this is one reason why earth and air could be enemies
Hmmm, that doesn't seem right because then it seems  the Earth
elementals cause their own distruction with their earthquakes and fire
can cause considerable damage to the things living off the earth....
Hmmm, seems I'm going in cicles and this chain of thought does not seem
to be leading anywhere so I think I shall save you the trouble and
terminate this letter

Yes Jisa was his daughter, so was Brightstar?[ Starwinds and 
Moondances' "son"] and his twin. Also the "child" of a retired Guard
 out of his sisters troop.

Okay Guys, this is covered in Auntie Mel's Rules of Thumb... please don't 
discuss these shows on the list by giving away the plot, as some have 
complained, not everybody is getting the newest season.  You can say, "Did 
anyone like last night's episode of ER?" but you can't say, "Did you like 
the part in last night's episode of ER where blah-blah-blah?"  And some 
people, like me, might not even have a TV (I bum off friends once a week).

Sorry, guys (generic term), but it's getting old... I'll admit that now I 
want to see ER, but I know I don't have the time.  Sigh.

part where Cameron (I think) said that the Asian Masters intermingled with 
the other disciplines more, and I thought it was this difference in 
philosophy and training that Master Pao has that made it possible for he 
and Rose to get along.  In my next post, if no one's beat me to the punch, 
I'll get the textevd on the spiel explaining all the elements.

those motives and tried to share Van's burden but he couldn't get past
the ice wall.  If I met Vanyel in person, I would probably think he's

struggles going on in his head and heart.  Not many books make me cry but

I know, I know... I think I cried at least 6 times (no joke) when reading 
LHM and 4 more when I was finished! Vanyel was definitely my favorite 
character in any book ever and being able to share his feelings was 
wonderful and really, really, sad at the same time.

About what was said about 'Lendel's insanity decreasing his likability and 
Stefen being the most likable one....
I think that 'Lendel acted exactly as Stefen did up until he lost his twin 
because, if I remember right, they were actually the same person. The 
Taledras said that sometime in the third book and Vanyel figured it out 
before he called down his Final Strike.


Umm... there was something else-oh yeah take a look at the 24 page of 
'Winds of Change'

Just in case no one saw this before (I'm new so I don't really know) Gwena 
accidentally spills that Sayvil is in fact Savil re-encarnated. (sorry 
again if this was already noticed, but I stumbled upon this while reading 
the other day.)

I read that section to mean that Rose was assessing the two rooms which
were like her own.  Doesn't the section read something about "there were
two suites which were virtually identical to her own, except for the color
scheme - one was decorated in stark green and silver, which she found cold
and repellant; and the other in
Cameron's trademark red and gold, which she found to be uncomfortably
lush... living in one of them would be like
living at the bottom of the sea, the other would be like living in a jewel
box.  She much preferred the choice that had been made for her."

Apologies if this is inaccurate - I'm at work, and don't have the book in
front of me.

RE:  Elementals

I believe that Earth and Air are opposing elements, as Fire and Water are.
So, Rose would not be able to even talk to Gnomes (or Dragons), as Jason
would not be able to talk to Undines.  My question is, what was the
Chinese equivalent to Undines?  I don't believe that was ever revealed.
IIRC, 

Salamanders = Phoenix (Fire)
Sylphs = Eagles (Air)
Gnomes = Dragons (Earth)
Undines = ?????  (Water)

  I agree.  Vanyel never said much about his feelings.  That was the
whole point of his...personality.  I think that if I met him without
knowing anything about him,  that I wouldn't like him very much at all. 
He would be very arrogant and...moody.  I pride myself on being able to
get along with most people,  but I don't say much.  Neither does he.  If
we did meet,  we'd probably hit a wall and wind up not talking about
anything.  But that's the beauty of books.  We can see inside of the
chararcters minds.  We can see what they're feeling.  And that helps us
figure out what they're like as a person.  Inside of the tough exterior, 
Van is not very strong at all.  Not emotionally.  He reminds me a lot of
myself a few years ago.

  I probably cried just as much.  For both Van and myself.  I saw myself
reflected in him so much.  Especially in _MPawn_ when he first starts the
Ice Prince stuff.  I was like that too.  After a few days of tears I
realized that it wasn't helping and just shut everything away.  

I gave my best friend the Arrows series to borrow,  and she liked them a
lot.  I gave her Pawn next.  We haven't talked about them in length,  but
I really want to see her reaction to Pawn.  She's a lot like me.

  Yep!  You're right!  In fact,  we've been over this before.  But that's
okay,  you didn't know.  Quite a few of the Companions are reincarnated. 
Besides Savil,  I know of Tantris and Tantras who was Kris' Companion. 
I'm pretty sure there are more,  but I'm blanking right now.

I haven't posted in a long time.  I'm still alive!  And I have a new
addy.  Yes,  it's Siller,  not Silver.  Kory,  that nick has come in
handy!  I still have my AOL account and check both daily,  so you can
send mail to either!
