No coconuts. Alberich -- Rutger Hauer Ancar -- Kiefer Sutherland An'desha -- Brad Pitt Daren -- Mel Gibson Darkwind -- Adrian Paul [yes, he's the Highlander guy] Dirk -- David Schwimmer Elcarth -- Jack Lemmon Eldan -- Harrison Ford Elspeth (child) -- Kirsten Dunst Elspeth (adult) -- Samantha Mathis [you know, I just now realized that they played the same person in *Little Women,* too. Go figure.] Falconsbane -- [see An'desha] Firesong -- Alexander Siddig Gaytha -- Angela Lansbury Hulda -- Demi Moore [she's a rotten actress, but Hulda always seemed to me like the kind of character who *should* be rather over-the-top] Jadrek -- John Malkovich Jadus -- Derek Jacobi Jeri -- Geena Davis Jisa -- [I don't know her name. She played Wallace's wife in *Braveheart* and had a beautiful smile.] Karal -- Christian Slater Keren -- Renee Russo Kerowyn -- Sharon Stone Kethry -- Michelle Pfeiffer Kris -- Tom Cruise Medren (child) -- Jonathan Taylor Thomas [as a favor to my 11 yo sister, who's mad about him *grin*] Medren (adult) -- Linus Roache [he was in *Priest.* Wonderful movie.] Mero -- Bob Hoskins Moondance -- Kevin Bacon Natoli -- Winona Ryder [too small a part for such a great actress, but it's what I went with] Need (voice) -- Kate Mulgrew Nyara -- Courtney Love Orthallen -- Mandy Patinkin Randale -- Val Kilmer [normally I'm not a big fan, but he played such a good consumptive in *Tombstone* that I thought the part might suit him] Rolan (voice) -- James Earl Jones [okay, he's only got like three lines. But they're very dramatic lines. You need an awesome voice.] Savil -- Glenn Close Selenay -- Jessica Lange Shavri -- Mary Stuart Masterson Sherrill -- Julia Roberts Silverfox -- Lou Diamond Phillips Skif (child) -- Edward Furlong Skif (adult) -- Matthew Broderick Solaris -- Susan Sarandon Starwind -- Antonio Banderas Stefan -- Ethan Hawke Talia -- Clare Danes Tarma -- Angelica Huston Teren -- Gary Sinise Tremane -- Gary Oldman Treven -- Leonardo di Caprio Tylendel -- Chris O'Donnell Ulrich -- Sean Connery Vanyel -- Michael Praed [that's his name. The Robin Hood guy.] Warrl (voice) -- Liam Neeson Withen -- Patrick Stewart Yfandes (voice) -- Robin Wright Ylsa -- Jamie Lee Curtis By the way, someone said Baron Melles was the best Misty villain? Why can't I remember Baron Melles? Who is he, and when did Heather turn into a complete moron? I know I'll smack myself in the head when someone tells me.... Little humans need a long period of nurture, 8, 10, 12 years, before they can be left to fend successfully for themselves (I'm being general here). Unlike us great lunks, who can survive fairly long periods of hunger, thirst, pain, cold, wet, heat, fear etc etc, little ones can't. They need their food, their blanket-on-which- all-life-depends, their decent night's sleep, their time to run around and shriek. They also make you vulnerable, "Well lookee here, kiddies. Well lady, why don't you run over there and be nice to the boys, then I wonder whether to kill your". Also, the sort of adults who like "living hard, fighting hard and playing hard" are not usually the sort you'd ask to babysit. Nope, littles belong somewhere safe and warm where they can grow as nature intended. I know that not all do, but what caring mother would subject her child to campaign life? It comes down to a choice - high adventure or children - I don't think you can take both and make both work fully. (IMO, YMMV) ===================================================== Kal'enedralKal'enedral ranted: > I've forgotten most of it. Now I feel like I should explain. Yes, I think lifebondings are romantic in Misty's books. I also still think it's impossible in our world. It *is* possible to have a very deep connection with someone, love someone very deeply, and want to spend the rest of your life with someone. HTH said: >This is why I don't quite understand what the concern is that when you >lifebond you'd end up "stuck" with someone awful. I'm not talking about helping people out or wanting them to be happy. I'm referring to the loss of self that can happen if you start confusing someone else's emotions with your own. In Misty's world, it works, because as the author, she can make sure that doesn't happen. IMO, if both Vanyel and Lendel had been as unhealthily dependent as Van was, the relationship would have been bad for both of them. The cycle would have turned on itself. >And don't swallow this idea of "lifebonded mates just know what the >other thinks and feels." I don't care where Misty says that, it's not >what she's showing us. If Talia and Dirk had any kind of pipeline to I'm not sure I buy that. No matter what she "demonstrates" she is always telling us that lifebondeds can do just that. If she shows us something differently, then it's simple inconsistency, and only she knows which way they were meant to have been. >I don't see the lifebond as requiring anyone to be any more co-dependant >than the next person. Were Tarma and Kethry co-dependant because they >depended on each other and dedicated their energies to advancing each >other's dreams as well as their own? Did the bond between them (which Here we have the diference between co-dependency and friendship. It is possible to help friends out and not be that way. I was merely suggesting that, in real life, people are alcoholics, drug addicts, whatever, and that a lifebond has the ability to create the perfect enabler. If you are continuously putting someone else in front of yourself emotionally, eventually, you will have a problem. "Bond" or no bond. >isn't any different from a lifebond, so far as I can tell) make them >needy or compulsively eager to please? All it seems to me to take away No, it doesn't make them that way. I was just saying that real people are not as perfect as Misty's characters. And people with a tendency to be needy would be made even more so by such a bond. >Just my thoughts on lifebonding, of course. No one's required to think >it's a blissful idea. Nothing is to everyone's tastes. Heck, there are >some people who don't want to have a lifelong exclusive relationship I happen to be a firm believer that people have the ability to make commitments to each other and keep them even beyond the grave. I just didn't like the concept of sharing one's mind and emotions. If I ever find someone I want to spend the rest of my life with, I would much rather have us be two individuals who love each other and live in harmony rather than two pieces of one whole. **************************************************************************** *********** On the subject of families and adventuring. Yes, it's more difficult. I also think it's still possible. Besides, kids grow up, go to school, etc. Mybe Misty's just waiting for Talia and Dirk to go on adventures in retirement? Ok. Maybe not. I just miss Talia. Just a thought. Hey Bethany! I'm one of the Resident Trek nuts here... who's the other one, BTW? I'm completely obsessed with it, completely addicted, and have Trek stuff all over my room. Anyhoo, heyla! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Your daily dose of Casting Bethany wrote: >>>Casting: Just a little note (and what inspired my to post): After the whole Star Trek list, I wonder if I'm the only one who thinks Alexander Siddig would be great as Vanyel (when he's older, he's too old to look 16... but anyone who's old enough to look 30 is too old to look 16, IMHO.) He's gorgeous, has a great accent, and most importantly, he can ACT... maybe I only think of him because, on refection, Dr. Bashir actually reminds me a lot of Vanyel: courageous, compassionate, arrogant, irritating. Except he's not a mage, and probably not intested in men. And, while we're on the subject of Garak, Andrew Robinson needs a part, too. :) Maybe as Falconsbane?<<< *pantpantpant* And when I first saw him, I swore he was gay (maternal unit still does)-- until on the show he started courting that one Dabo chick, and I found out that in RL he's hooked up with Nana Visitor. Dr. Bashir isn't as moody as Vanyel, IMHO, but it's about to change REAL soon... (next week's ep) The problem would be finding someone who looks like him who looks 16. But Alexander Siddig is not my ideal Vanyel -- for instance, Vanyel didn't flirt with every attractive man in sight; rather, he kept them away. Siddig's character, Dr. Bashir, is a casanova, who went for Dax at first, then on to that Dabo chick, and he might be single right now... but he's going on that Capt. Kirk cycle of women. Somehow, that image is still stuck in my head as Alexander Siddig, though it's only his character. But if he can pull it off, it's a measure of how good of an actor he really is. As for Andrew Robinson, he'd be great as voice of Aubri, Ancar, and *got it*!!!! Firesong? How about that? I don't know how he looks in RL, but I can picture him as Firesong! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Twin Peaks Then the Sagely Heather wrote: >>>Did someone say that David Duchovny wasn't feminine-looking enough to play Vanyel? *giggle* You obviously never saw him play the very pretty transvestite DEA agent on Twin Peaks....<<< I've seen pictures -- and besides, I didn't say that; I said he looked too studly (as in not delicate), which I don't mind at all! Is there a video of that series out there somewhere? If there is, I'd love to get my hands on several eps... (yes, he made a pretty darn sexy chick!) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Reincarnation MorningStar wrote: >>>ObMisty: Aww...do I gotta? My ObMisty for the day is... What part do you think reincarnation really plays in Misty's books? Is it just a plot twist to get our attention and tease us? Did she decide to use it just for an origin for the majority of Companions? Or for Vanyel to have his lifebonded?<<< Oh, I think it was just to give a desparate chick a chance at an ObMisty . I think the Herald reincarnation in Misty's books signifies the Heralds' loyalty to Valdemar to continue serving as Companions. As for non-Herald reinc, I think, in the case of Stefen, it was to keep Vanyel from getting so lonely. If he hadn't been there, there are certain times I could recall in MPrice where Van could have completely cracked. And it provided the book with some *real* romance... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That's all for today -- I have to get out of this casting thing before someone puts me in a body cast... .
