Maybe you can see now who wrote what.  I only wrote the two arrow stuff.
Mar 'Pai it would be better
if you would use something to define quoted text and to set your responses
off.  I know that I was
guilty of this in my original response to this missive but it was
accidental.  Making sure that the "who
said what" thing is straight makes sure that you get the credit for your
wisdom or blame for your flame.

I'll try, but my Netscape communicator professional version will not always co-operate.  I'll go ahead and let it do this stuff in HTML mode, it will confuse the heck out of some people, but should let folk know who is getting quoted.

Sorry Cynedd, the top part was from an anonymous list member not me.  My
part of the post starts at "I've been leaving my $0.02 out..."  Actually,
my note
had not been finished when my fiancee kindly sent it for me before closing
my
e-mail.  I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
I would stop being anonymous if I knew how/why.  Guess it just doesn't like my Netscape.

I do agree that we've seen enough of this subject to last a long time.
Actually
it seemed to have been a great open discussion of religions and how they
compare to the world of Velgarth until Josh spoke up.  I did request
further
information from some of our other list friends however, my request was
that
people contact me privately for further discussion.  Again, due to the
premature
sending of this post, my e-mail address was not included at the bottom of
the
post.
Oh, I'm supposed to put that there.  Sorry.  A friend told me how to get on this list, didn't mention that little thing to me, does this mean I get to make a cool signature file.
:-)

Hmmm.... this seems to cause a lot of problems.  People requesting
information
to be sent to them off list but others not knowing how to do this.  Should
we all
make sure our e-mail addresses are in our signatures if we post?  *shrug*
Might be a good idea.  then again, I know a few people who's bosses might not like that.  Mine can't say anything my e-mail is something I pay for myself from a different service.  But I do have a few friends who's bosses don't know they do usenet.

Thanx.  Spelling is NOT my strong point.  I'm better at manipulating thoughts and concepts, which might explain why I'm good at math, chemistry, physics, poetry, and sometimes writing.  And to Ahriman on here, it's a very nice sounding name.  If I didn't know what it ment I'ld probably use it.  :-)

I saw this and was like "whoa.." I didnt think I would witness this
ignorance here on such an open minded place..
Look at Misty's books even there there is Ignorance.  Look at Withan, Poor Van's father.  he's certainly dealing with ignorance, and cultural conditioning.  Luckily for Vanyel, he eventually realizes that he might be wrong.

I've had the bible preached at me so many times its not even funny. Just
wanted to say "if satan, says, Love one another, forgive, love the earth,
dont kill, be good to your body do not harm it." then aren't we going
about things all wrong???
Last time I checked "satan" was against all this...
Last time I looked too.  To quote Oathbreakers.  "This is a good land, yours.  it deserves good servants, strong defenders--vigilant champions to guard it and hold it safe as My Hands hold Mine.  Do we not all serve to drive back the Dark, each in his own fashion?  So I cry--Well met, Children of My Other Self!"
And
"The let white Sword and black serve as they are meant--to cleave the True Darkness, and not each other, as you each feared might befall"
(I LOVE the philosphy in Misty's books, so much of it makes GOOD sence

A mindspeaking gift is necessary not for a Companion to talk to their Chosen, but for the Chosen to talk to their Companion. Yes there is a difference. Companions can talk to anyone they choose, but they choose not to use this gift except in dire emergencies, or if they're cranky and rebellions like Sayviel, Kero's companion. Warrl can speak to anyone whom he chooses if he wants to, (correct me if I'm wrong in any of this, anyone) Tarma can hear him because he projects to her, and because they're bonded. However, she doesn't really talk to him - she thinks at him and he picks up her thoughts - that is the extent of his mindspeaking ability - it's a far reach. Kero can mindspeak very well so she and Warrl would have no problems communicating. However, Daren doesn't have this ability, so unless Warrl decides on purpose to :SHOUT: into his head, Daren can't hear him, and of course Warrl wouldn't oblige him so much as to grace him with his mental presense Hope this explains it! And a greed so intense that even >having these things never causes it to lessen one iota -- the lovely, the >rare and the precious never affect it except to make it want them" (p 210 >AFlight, Dirk) I thought this was a perfect quote to outline Misty's seeming views on Evil, it seems to crop up in all her books in one form or another. That is why her villians have to be dog-kicking, child molesting, vicious, horrible, with no redeeming qualities. Bad People are only Evil if they are really, really bad... If they are redeemable then they aren't truely Evil, they just need to find the error of their ways. Like the guy that Talia put into an emotional loop so that he felt everything that he had done to his daughter, if he ever felt sorry for what he did and *repented* then he would be released and supposedly forgiven, as he had already been punished and would no longer be *Bad*. ****************** Glithoniel >Actually, Gwena does lie. You have to ask the correct questions. Its still a lie >of omission. It makes me wonder if thats the reason that Gwena needed to be Gborn, going back to the other thread, is that only Gborn can lie and *directly* affect minds of mortals... Roland and Gwena are the only 2 who do that directly, right? And other times that people seem to be affected, is when the Gborn are controlling it through other companions in a major meld. And if you consider that Gwena knew her Chosen was stubborn, she could have pushed for going to the other mage for training just so that Elspeth would rebel and go to the Tayladres which is where Gwena actually *wanted* her to go...twisted, but if they can lie, it makes sense. ************************************************************** Dana / Fast Fashion: >The Jedi never recovered. Religion is something that pops up about every 2 months. And religion (no matter what flavor) or lack of religion, influences everyone's perceptions on daily life and how the understand what they read. And as there are elements of it in Misty's books, it is valid discussion material. ** Josh, ease up, buddy. Disney owns ABC, not CBS (the network on which the remake was shown) and if they're going to present one of their films, they put it on their own network. ABC was purchased last summer, while I was on the WDW College Program. The only times I've known Disney to have their material on other networks is when other networks ask to telecast, for a price of course (ie., the rededication of Walt Disney World, Oct. 1, 1996, which was on CBS -- I'm glad I double-checked the tv listings b4 setting the VCR, cuz I'd assumed it would be on ABC). Also, re: what order to read the Velgarth books. Although Cennyd makes some good points, I vote for chronological (tho since the Gryphon books are _so_ far in the past, they could definitely be read after w/o messing up one's perceptions). Remember, LHM comes before Vows&Honor, so one would know what a Herald is b4 Tarma & Kethry meet Roald. I just prefer reading things in chron. order so I don't hafta mentally figure out a timeline after the fact...course, one would hafta look at the timeline b4 starting to read the books. What am I to do? Watch my step so nobody realizes that what they're doing is wrong? NOT IN A LONG SHOT. How will people know they are wrong unlesss somebody shows them? I was wrong in everything I did until somebody showed me the way of salvation. Now I am secured a place in heaven through Jesus Christ who went to the cross for me and loves me. He went to the cross for everybody, but not everyone can be saved until they turn their lives over to Him. There is much witnessing that can be done on the internet and that is what I am involved in. If you don't like it, tough. I will not stop if someone was to burn down my house. I would not stop if someone was to torture me for 10 years. I am one of Jesus' followers and will follow Him to the end, no buts about it. You may try to convince me otherwise, but my heart will not change. The Holy Spirit is doing some miraculous things in the world and I want to be a part of it. Plus I do not hate any of you. I love the sinner and hate the sin. Is it the amazingly exiting stories? Is it the environment? No. It is because you know every character extremely well. You see everything in the characters point of view, and reads what he things. She can write a chapter about i.e. a ride from x to y, without dialogs or anything special happened, to be interesting, because you reads what the person thinks, and after the first book you know exactly what the person is going to do. I don't think a movie would be possible, without loosing all the feeling. I think it would be hard to understand why he do things, without explain why. The whole story is based on what he thinking, and feeling. If you make a drama with a little fantasy environment, its possible, but I don not think you can get half the feeling, even if you make a "thought-voice" that tells a bit of what he thinking. I want to see a movie based on some of Mistys work too, but I'm not depending on it. /The Swallow ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 1148 **********************************
