Usually they come out about one year after their initial release in hard cover, then all you have to do is find it!! If you are looking for any book that is hard to find, you could try "The Bent Cover" bookstore. June, the owner is a personal friend of mine and she has a searching process that will help people to locate hard to find books. Her email address is jpatton-+AT+-primenet.com, she has an URL, but I cant think of what it is at the moment, but if you email June, she would be glad to send you the web site. Shamanic magic has more to do with the Gods than with ethics, it is defined by the fact that it was given by the gods than with Ohhhh.....say the ethics of binding a familiar to you (some schools coerce some schools ask). The reason why Shamanic magic confused Falconsbane was because he only knew blood, node and personal magic, god given magic just didn't fit into those categories and he had no way to defend against it. (though I *did* end up deleting most of the posts from when I was out with technical problems and a nasty flu (even though I got the flu vaccine, grrrrrr) unread) There were a few things I wanted to contribute to... )^*&%&$^#^&#*^%)(&_) SIZE OF VALDEMAR Somebody asked, after finding textevd using leagues as a measure of distance, how long a league is. A league is either 3 or 7 miles long. I think it's 7, because I seem to remember tales involving 3-league boots, where with each step, the wearer travelled (duh!) 3 leagues. I also remember it was 21 miles total, and 7-league boots seems too awkward, so I'm pretty sure 1 league = 7 miles. Any contradictions? Somebody also asked for a comparison for 600 miles, and I discovered I no longer have an atlas with me... but after some thinking (I *thought* it was about a 10-hour drive across Saudi Arabia) and scrounging in my various textbooks, I found I was right. Saudi Arabia is a smidgeon over 600 miles in width. Israel is about 300 miles from top to bottom (any guesses onto the type of textbook I found?). Yes, you're thinking, but I don't really have a clue as to how big those two countries are! Well, sorry, but that one's gonna have to wait 'till I get to a real atlas. Or until someone else sticks in their .02 :) Also, someone was wondering (yup, a while ago, but I haven't read the more recent stuff) how far the Tayledras had roamed. I just wanted to remind whoever it was (Kara?) that the Tayledras had been in what'sitcalled... place where Princess Tashira was from? Because it had the heartstone and Van touched it, remember? MPromise? I wish I had my books. (Shy, you *are* taking good care of them, right?) Hope that helped. ()&!)*&)$%&#))!-+AT+-*%_$#*_ FLUFF I'm sorry guys, but this fluff about the bookstores is *waay* off-topic. It's okay if you just put a brief message about it in a misty-related post, but what I've been reading look like private messages, and I've been deleting them after a quick scan for Misty content (which I haven't found, except in the first two). I'm not gonna name names, 'cause I already deleted them (duh!) Oh, and that naming? Don't worry... it shall come soon my eager Acolytes of Procrastination to be. I have my last physics lab (Allelujah chorus running rampant in background - gack! look out! stampeding organ pipes! Noooo, I can't bear to listen. *grin*) due on Wednesday, and it's gonna be a doozy 8-hour write-up, I can feel it, so I'll actually get that post written up and sent while procrastinating on my lab. Then I might attack that MageWars Circle topic... resurrecting my dreaded "Those Damn Circles"!!!!!<---(how many?) Mwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!!!<--(again!) I've created a monster!!!!<---(hope I caught 'ya off-guard ) Lee, if you're still here, thanks for offering to hand out the NewbieFest while I was... indisposed. Wow... half and half fluff and Misty... impressive, most impressive. What's that from, all? Oh, that reminds me... I have a survey I'd like whoever's interested to fill out and send in (not another survey!). The most important thing about filling out this survey is where you send it. Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT send it to the list -- send it to dsarik-+AT+-po-box.mcgill.ca got it? If this goes to the list people will get rightly irritated. On to the survey... )($#&)!&%)#-+AT+-&%)*%_ SURVEY Name (just so I know... can be any name you like, as long as you answer to it): Country of birth: Country of longest residence (if different from above): Country(ies) of citizenship: Country of current residence (ie, where are you sitting right now?): Country of current *legal* residence (if different from above): Dominant hand (right, left, ambidextrous): Dominant food (same answers as above. For this one, imagine you're tied to a chair with a telephone on the floor directly in front of you. If your legs are free to move, with which foot would you reach for the phone?): Number of teaspoons in a tablespoon (seriously, I've heard this varies in different countries, and I wanna see the distribution): Operating System (Win 3.1, Win 95, Mac, UNIX, abacus, etc.): Well, that looks like it for my survey... this is just out of pure curiosity... I might post something to the list about the dominant hands and feet and the teaspoon/tablespoon thing, but nothing more personal. Oh, well. I'll just try and head this off real quickly. The Ones in Black are one of the many factions of the Magewars, another list (tsk, tsk, 'hawk... didn't you read the NewbieFest?). They, along with the Men in White, Ladies in Green, and Cat Persons have lots of fun on this other list that sprang out of the Misty list -- they left 'cause it started getting fluffy here. If you want to know more about the MageWars, just send a message to Jag at Jaguar or, if you have it on hand, visit her site (whose URL I don't remember offhand). There 'ya go! Just remember... questions like this and more are answered in the NewbieFest (shameless plug), so if you haven't read it, just write me for it (I'm saying this to *everyone* on the list, of course :) Err... ObMisty.... Uhhhh... is Storm Breaking still in spoilers? Because it definitely has *not* come out in paperbacks. I'm still not sure we've had a definitive ruling on this (I might have just missed this, if so, clue me in *privately*). If it is still in spoilers, please put spoiler space before anyghint about SBreaking, and change the topic to match suite, please. Oh, wait a minute, that isn't an ObMisty, is it? Okay, err, so, on the question of different people's and different foods, would the Karsite's eat spicier foods corresponding to either the Middle East or India? or more Germanic (what *is* Germanic food anyway?)? What kind of food would they eat among the Holderkin? Really bland, high-starchy stuff? (unfair, I know) Oh, and did you know we've broken 400 subscribers? (well, the number's inflated a bit by people getting it at multiple addresses) The total count is 406 as of the time I sent this message out. I'm not sure whether to rejoice or be scared. 400 people are reading everything I write here. That almost gives me stage-fright. Here are all the belated birthdays from March... I'm sorry, but this was right about when I started getting my puter problems, and I'm still licking my sores from that tumble. MARCH 16 Kat 17 Liseth 17 Lady Silverblade ('83) (philcartier-+AT+-earthlink.net) 22 Sera ('77) 23 Elyse Salberg ('78) (st963579-+AT+-pip.cc.brandeis.edu or esalberg-+AT+-juno.com) 29 Tamarisk ('78) (clight-+AT+-icok.net) the years were provided by the people, knowing they would be revealed to the list. If you'd like to send them birthday wishes, go ahead, and if you want to personalize them, some of them have provided addresses to do so with. I'm sorry I didn't personalize this noticing, but I'm frazzled, and the flu monster still has a firm grip on my voice, so I'm not quite together yet. (whose voice did you say that was?) (ulp... why, yours, woodlark... put that knife down.... slowly... you know I wouldn't do something as silly as tha-) (good, i like it that way.) (long silence... may I finish with the message, woodlark? ) ( oh, if you insist... but don't forget who lives on that voice m'dear... and don't *ever* get sick again!>) Err... in recompense, I'm offering a happy litle reading sheep to each of you. This sheep will sit happily at your back so you can read without breaking your back and is the flavour of hot coffee, cocoa, tea, or whatever else you might like to eat/drink while reading your favorite book! The birthdays (in advance) for April are... 6 Beverly Steele 21 Rune 24 Spencer 25 ShadowWolf 28 Kyla Hmmm... if you think this looks short, I'll agree with you... April has the fewest bdays on my list. If you're not on here, mail me with your pertinent info and I'll add you to the list! Uh-oh... it's ObMisty time... wait a minute... this is serious enough fluff that I don't need one, right? Ok... if everyone else has to, I ought to, also... I remember! Someone was asking who created the kyree and dyheli... it says in Black Gryphon, I know for sure, because I textevd'd it once. Of course, I can't remember now, but it was either Urtho or someone before him. I'm pretty sure Urtho done the deed, though. Oh Kara, disciple of textevd? Would you like to look this up (and a mighty fine job you've been doing so far) ? I'm pretty sure it's w/i the first quarter of the book... Amberdrake thinks it in passing while he's thinking about the gryphons. *grin* boy, I'm as helpful as a back-seat driver, aren't I? love, Deniz Sarikaya, High Priestess of | Confused about anything on this list?
