Never understand it when I was reading. This is a silly question. But by a show of little mentions from regular posts about 'important' stuff, who have Vanyel as their favorite character? Or at least in love with him? Anyhow. I just thought Vanyel never use his Bardic gift because he never got training. So he's just a very good 'minstrel' with a wild and strong bardic gift that everyone ignores. Or maybe he does use them when doing diplomatic missions, convincing others to trust him... About Kero and Eldan. I was wrong. So they aren't lifebonded. They are still bonded in some weird way that they dreamt and felt each other's presence strongly for ten years... I can accept that. Sure, very logical... No offense to anyone though. I asked this once, but no one answered except one person and answer wasn't clear. So again. How long did Van and Stef lasted as alive beings? Also how long was relationship between 'Lendel and Van, not counting the reincarnation? One more thing. Why in the world is Van's life so depressing in the area of his love life? Both of his bondmate died in a few months and the in betweens he didn't care enough about... In fact, the only two main shaych characters, for me, namely Vanyel and Firesong, never had truly lon-lasting relationships... poor, poor shaych boys... No matter how good-looking they are, still can't get 'happily ever after'... Sorry I just rambled off. Chocalate sheeps to everyone. The one the Valdemarans call lake Evendim?" Obviously this means that k'Treva is around Valdemar. What is interesting is that in Vanyel's time (according to the map in MPrice) k'Sheyna is as close to k'Treva as Forst Reach is to Highjorune( the capital of Lineas). K'Treva has stayed in the same general area as it was in Vanyel's time, which is near Valdemar, but k'Sheyna has moved all the way down to near the Dhorsha plains, I guess this means that this means that individual moving rates differ ALOT. So there you have it, hope that clears things up. (And mind you, I only use the last in a positive light. A kestra'chern will only perform that particular "therapy" if he/she has determined that it's in the client's best interests. I've thought about this myself. Could it be that Van just couldn't use his Gift? I mean, he'd wanted it so bad and couldn't have it. It must have hurt him immensely when that was denied him. There were surely psychological scars. Maybe those just prevented him? (My 2 cents) >One more thing. Why in the world is Van's life so depressing >in the area of his love life? There's a short story in there that deals with one of Van's "in-betweens." It seemed to me as if he did care about that particular one. And IIRC, Firesong did eventually found Silverfox.(Or whatever his name was.) I'm afraid he did "have to post the whole thing" as past history shows most are unaware of it. In point of fact if Cenny hadn't posted it, I'm sure our beloved Aunty Mel would have put it up farily soon. Mel seems to have to repost this every 6 weeks or so to rien in the folks who forget. As anybody who has been on this (or most any) mailing list for any length of time will attest, there are a great many folks out there who don't even bother to save the letter they get when they join a list and so don't know how to get off! This list is a nice place to be, at least in part, because of the frequent gentle reminders from Mel, Cennyyd and others of what kind of behaviour is acceptable and what is just not on. I speak as a member of the Drifting Ashes (when I started using this mail reader I included most of a digest in a reply(I swear, I thought I deleted!)) when I say I heartly endorse Cennyyd in his posting and pray him to continue in a like vein as and when it is nessecary. Maybe I am wrong on that because it has been a long time since I have read the books but I know that many people have been scared of the power that both Firesong and Van have. Also, atleaset with Van he didn't want to have a relationship and risk someone getting close to them for the fact that they could be used against Van and that because of Van they could get hurt and then Van would not be able to concentrate as well. Also, atleaset with Van he didn't want to have a relationship and risk someone getting close to them for the fact that they could be used against Van and that because of Van they could get hurt and then Van would not be able to concentrate as well. In his eyes he could not risk someone getting close to him or him getting close to someone else. Wind to thy wings Christy I concur with that. It was state in the books. How many lands/kingdoms are there besides Valdermar coz while Misty always deal with Valdermar's neighbours, in some of her books, especially the Oathbound and its equel, she refered to other people, minor kingdoms and so on? 2. Is the Empire sharing a border with Ancar's kingdom? 3. Has anyone solved the mistery of the land (I can't remember its name) that borders with Valdermar, mentioned in the first of Mage Storm saga? Besides these, I saw NightDancer saying that we can get bondbirds from her. How can I get a Companion, instead? I hope I don't offend the heralds but I'd love to be one. Nickname's Kestrel. I'm an avid fan of Misty, read all of the Heralds of Valdermar series that I can get my hands on. I hope to join the discussions and perhaps learn something new. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Korenci, QO is Queen's Own the Mercedes Lackey Fan Club!! As Far as Van's Bardic gift, I am going to havve to stick with my opinion of the fact that it probably wsn't that strong because of how much Van wanted to be a Bard and how heart broken when he was told that he wouldn't be anything more than a "minstrel". Unless you can prove otherwise. ----------- If I remember correctly, in Magic's Pawn, when Van came to the Collegium he was tested for the gift and they found that he had none - that was he was heart broken. After the incident with the Gate, all the channels to his gifts were torn open and Savil with the help of her Healer friend traced these channels. She said something about how ironic that only now he had the Bardic gift. It was his empathy that was not very strong. And said that only the channel to his healing gift remain closed. Please check that part of Magic's pawn when this happens. Later in her other Magic series, Misty seem to ignore this Bardic gift and mentioned that Van have the healing gift albeit it is weak. Do anyone know why? I'm not sure if it has been addressed yet. When Savil takes Vanyel to K'treva, how does she know where to go? It has been said in numerous books that the Hawkbrothers move their vales. If so, how could she Gate to their lands? Had they just not moved in a long time? She said it had been many years since she had last seen them. Just wondering. Randy Topham >> Youre not wrong (grin). It takes a VERY long time to tame the wild magic of an area, so it was a pretty safe guess that the vale would still be there. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 7 Apr 1997 01:35:03 -0400 (EDT) From: LrdTrebor-+AT+-aol.com To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: lifebonds debates are like the energizer bunny... I have to say I'm extremely happy to have been proven right ... as many of you know, I've held the opinion for a long time that not every couple in her books were lifebonded... sometimes love is enough. (isn't that a ballad of some sort...? hrm...) Ok if snapping while barely coherent isn't alowed should gloating be? (grin) >Someone mentioned something (deleted the post) that they thought anything other than a lifebond was impossible for Heralds... to paraphrase the text, the the Companion bond, and the bond to the Circle take up so much "emotional" room, that rarely is there "room" left for a third intense bond. It doesn't say that Heralds *can't* fall in love... only that it isn't likely to happen. Did that help clear anything up or did I only muddle the waters further... ? So true! > I never thought that lifebonding was the only explanation for Kero and Eldan's "communication" with each other. The Gifts portrayed in Misty's world have never been fully explained, so isn't it possible that this is a side-effect of some sort? IMHO, there are paranormal and unexplained happenings all over Velgarth so why not consider some of those causes instead of assuming that just because two characters are a couple, they *have* to be lifebonded. Make sense? Does to me! > Y'know .. someday I may actually shut up on the subject of lifebonding vs love ... then again, maybe I won't. ;) Why its such a fun topic! >Crystal ( who *finally* found a job - yay!!!) :) >> Hey good job!
