I mean stories about the birth and death and problems that happen every day in the universe without these character interventions; stories that don't need any of the groups we've come to know and love in order to exist. I guess this all comes from the fact that I picked up "Jamie and Other Short Stories" by MZB, and in it are many stories that take place in the same universe as Darkover, but have nothing to do with any type of Darkovan character or group or sect. They really have given a new life to Darkover for me and I thought something similar published by Misty might also work well. You know, just a bunch of stories that do not have to have anything to do with her developed worlds or groups of characters. But, has Misty had any short stories published that weren't in the Velgarth world (did she have a Darkovan one published?) Oh, there was that book of stories all on the same theme (gosh, did that get old after a few stories) but she didn't write a story, only the song that the stories took their theme from, am I right? If you have your mail program set to sort according to time/date, then often what you get is the most recent message at teh top of the list of new messages, and the one actually written first, thus oldest at the bottom of the list. This is the case with Pegasus mail, and I think with at least some versions of netscape. What this means is that if you start at the top of your new messages list and just start reading them don the list, then you are actually reading them in _reverse_ chronological order. This essay can be found at Firebird Arts & Music's website at http://www.usa.net/firebird/homepage.htm The upshot of the situation is that, due to some wacko nutjobs who take her books way too seriously, ML has decided that it would be best for all concerned not to write any more fiction concerning Di Tregarde. It has gotten so extreme that actual threats have been made against Misty's and Larry's lives. This really saddens me on a number of levels, not the least of which is that the "Diana Tregarde Investigations" are my favorite of ML's novels. Anyway, maybe this would be a good time to introduce myself -- I'm new to this list, but I've been a Mercedes Lackey fan ever since I first read "The Last Herald-Mage" trilogy.
