Message-ID: <970508161628_-30227045-+AT+-emout20.mail.aol.com> Just wanted to let everyone know - if you have AOL, or know someone who does, they now have Barnes & Noble online service - and here's the kicker - you get 20% off every paperback and 30% off every hardback ordered online. So if you don't have a major bookstore in your area, might be something to look into. As for me, it's a better discount than my overused 10year old preferred reader card - I will be ordering from my living room from now on! There's something to be said for the cyber-world... Help me please.... Message-ID: <1B5C15B6611-+AT+-acad2.dana.edu> Ok, Sorry in advance, I know that this little question has been asked a billion and a half times but I didn't pay attention I guess. I have to leave for summer break and I need to have my name removed from this list. I have tried half a dozen times but it seems my efforts where wasted. I really need to know how to get off the list. Otherwise I will be totally bogged down when I come back in a couple of months. As one of my friends points out," There are 3 sides to every story; Side A, Side B, and the Truth. The hard part is figuring out what is the Truth." I agree with what you're saying. Trmane does appear to be the exception to the rule in the Empire, but he did order the assisinations of the envoys, so obviously he is not totally above Empire politics. Another interesting thought; Selenay ordered the assisnation of Ancar. Is this so different from Tremane ordering the envoys to be killed? After all, he thought that he was under attack from Valdemar when the mage storms hit. Of course, a major difference is that Hardorn and Valdemar were already at war. Lady Lydia >> I just read Sword of Ice. In one of the stories, Selenay had a meeting with a herald who told her a story about butterflies. This herald's work is basically to do all the "dirty" jobs that needs done in order to ensure Valdemar's safety...jobs that sometimes even Selenay is not aware of. And I know that Kero spoke along those lines in Winds of Fury. So, I agree with you. What is the difference between Tremane's action and Selenay's action especially when the motivation is the same? A friend of mine would say that Selenay acted with proof and dirrected her actions only to the person guilty of the crime whereas Tremane was working base on no solid evidence and his targets were innocent. But fear almost always overrides reason. I think since Tremane feared attack from Valdermar, he could construe anything as a provocation from them....not reasonable, but no one who fears for himself and those under him would be expected to be reasonable in this instance. I think that was why both Karal and Solaris did not harm him even though it was difficult to forgive him for his actions. Wind to thy Wings, Kestrel PS. - Krebain was not Maar and I don't think that Krebain was working for Leareth. Leareth wouldn't have given Krebain that much rope in the first place. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 9 May 1997 11:01:59 +0800 From: "Angeline Sim" To: Subject: Re: Krebain/Leareth Message-ID: <199705090330.LAA03219-+AT+-larkspur.singnet.com.sg> > So, despite the Leshara's involvement, Krebain's mission, it seems > to me, was to eliminate a potentially very powerful Herald-Mage: > Tylendel. So well, instead of Krebain being related to Leareth, he could be a lackey? (pun not intended). :) Yeah, maybe coz of their same attitude to trying to seduce Van just before they try killing him. Leareth could have instructed his instrument in more than blood magic.( they could have attended charm school together? :)) And Leshara had been paying Krebain or something right? It might be that Leareth used Krebain to try to milk funds for his attempt to invade Valdemar. It might not be that Leareth gave Krebain rope or any thing, I mean maybe he sent Krebain out to do something while he himself began building up his partners. Maybe he controlled Krebain like Falconsbane controlled Starblade (correct name?). I mean they're reputably the same person... ------------------------------------------------------- > But fear almost always overrides reason. I agree and maybe the Eastern Empire shouldn't be made out to be all that bad. Didn't Karal say something about walking consciences and making your enemy one faceless mask or something along that line in Storm Warning? Tremane just made the same mistake as Karse did with Valdemar. That's all folks! Wind to thy Wings Listsibs and May The Force Be With You! Sure, they're pretty smart but it's more like a predator smartness, like wolves hunting in packs to bring down they're prey. I think the wyrsa just got their predator-ness enhanced to make them that much more dangerous. As for the Eastern Empire, I think it's just like old Britain. "The sun never sets on the British empire." And everyone else was scrambling to get out of it's way. Well, nobody ever thought they were horrible for what they did, so it stands to reason that the Eastern Empire can't be horrible either. If you think trying to obliterate cultures into a melting pot isn't horrible. I'm off to the US on the 28th to work for NCSU for the summer.
