Hi Californian(USA) Here.   I am pretty new to the books.  So far all I
have read are the Queens Own series and Half Of the Last Herald Mage
books.  I heard about it from my friends and we have been getting people
hooke at our school.  One of my friends jokes that it is like a little
cult.  But wwe agree to each other that if you read you have to try to
get people hooked and I have found that it isn't really that hard.  We
just give them "Arrows of the Queen" and for the rest of the time they
are reading it you always see them clutching there book.

No, in Storm Breaking, there was a reference to cat-like sentients that were
the equivalent of the kyree, as well as a larger version of the hertasi...
 Was this what you were referring to (I don't have the appropriate names at
hand, but can dig them out here....)?
