Well, when Elspeth asked why Gwena hadn't chosen her sooner, Gwena had replied something like 'First I was too young, then you had to grow up.' or something like that, and that was when we found out that Gwena was also very young. Now this is just speculation, but what if Elspeth got a GB companion because whatever deity watches over Valdemar wanted to have magic back and 1)gave Elspeth Mage-potential, 2)sent Gwena, the only other GB in Valdemar once she was born, to Elspeth. Which would make Elspeth supposed *fate* more likely to be made beforehand. Or something like that. ********* I personaly got another NewbieFest yesterday, so unless you just subscribed today, you would have gotten one. At least I think you would have, didn't Cennydd send it to everyone? ********* Congrats to Elisiande, I hope you live happily ever after. But how do you know she hasn't been around the wheel as a Companion a couple times before this? With 550+ years between LHM & BTS (aprox) she could have been out and about 5 or 6 times easy! Could she have had contributed something then? I don't have my book with me right now, but she was observing Treyvan and, IMO, possibly giving him teaching on how to deal with Heralds... Flimsy reasoning...:) Flying sheep with Chocolate to everyone! Wind to thy Wings, listsibs! School's out for me tomorrow, and tonight was the "Moving On Ceremony" coz I'm goint to 9th grade next year. I'm so happy I'm giving everyone little crystal sheep to hang in the window and make rainbows in the room. Okay, I'd like somebody who's read Firebird to e-mail me, because I would like to compare how it is to some versions I've found in fairy-tale collections, and I can't really think of any way to do that without adding massive spoilers to the list . Copyrights -- well, I remember reading lotsa stuff on this at one point, but it was on making a Misty MUD, and the general, final agreement was "don't do it!" Personally I would find it very interesting how Misty would treat the English fairy-tales "Childe Rowland" and "The Laidly Worm," which are both very interesting and are certainly not as well known as "Sleeping Beauty" and the like. (I usually skip those in a collection of tales.) That starts me wondering how you culd possibly treat some of her other books as fairy tales. The results would certainly be quite interesting, ghastly mutilations of the story-line, or like converted Disney fairy-tales. Oh well. I guess this is a pretty fluffy post. Sorry. To apologize, I'm passing around a bag of plain- (not milk-) chocolate coated almond sheep. =&=&=&=&=&=&=&=&=&=&=&=&=&==&=&=&=&=&= Selene T. selly-+AT+-geocities.com|seltan-+AT+-qinet.net http://www.geocities.com/Area51/8121/ =&=&=&=&=&=&=&=&=&=&=&=&=&==&=&=&=&=&= ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Jun 1997 11:42:14 CST From: "JAIME HATHAWAY" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Small braid, (only 3 things) Message-ID: Well, when Elspeth asked why Gwena hadn't chosen her sooner, > Gwena had replied something like 'First I was too young, then you had to > grow up.' or something like that, **Could you please provide textevd for this? I don't remember it at all. >whatever deity watches over Valdemar > wanted to have magic back and 1)gave Elspeth Mage-potential, **Well, I don't really agree. The Mage Gift never went away and just spontaneously showed up in Elspeth. It was always there, but no one could recognize it, and those who had it were trained as though they had the Gift of Farsight (my mind leaves me, but I think that is stated in WoFate...anyone have page number?) The only reason people found out that Elspeth had it was because she was sent to find Mages to come back to Valdemar and find the Gifted in Valdemar and train them, ideally being Chosen along the way themselves. So Elspeth goes to Quentin and, lo and behold, he tells her she's Gifted. Bright day!!!
