In 'Children of the Night'  the 'psi-vamp' feeds off peoples bio-energy
starting off with the 'high-frequences' which are the positive emotions, this
changes for good when they get a taste of the 'low frequnces' which are the
more negative emotions such as pain/fear/anger/etc., they can't get energy
from food and start out human but were changed by a drug into 'Psi-vamps',
they have a visual sensitivity to sunlight. This is explained throught the
book but mostly when they are at the bar 'Logres' ( I'm pretty sure thats the
name).  The part about normal vampires is more spread out and you have to
piece it together from a lot of different places in the book. They feed off
blood, human is best, the sun burns them physicly, they don't need to kill to
feed and theres a 'protection' that holds their food source till the vampire
is 'full'. the 'protection' is also quite pleasurable?, the part about the
protection is after she feeds him having dragged him into her appartment when
he is burned by the sun. 
There is also a 'soul-sucker' but its not a vampire, its a gaki adn it eats
souls. The gaki works with the 'psi-vamps' because it shares victems that way
and bothh are less likly to be caught. the gaki is a 'friend'/buisness
partner' of Master Jeffries, the cheif 'psi-vamp'.

er, if I remember correctly (apologies in advance for devotees of textevd,
I borrowed SW and SR from the library, have since returned them and
therefore cannot reasonably *give* textevd) in the middle of SW, Karal is
leaving An'desha and hears bells ringing from the palace clock.
Therefore, whatever the inherent problems of candles may be, it is logical
to assume that candlemark is simply a term, and they have clocks the same
as us...

That's a good point.  When 'Lendal was showing his Companion to Vanyel, he
saw her for a couple of instances as a young laughing girl, or something
like that.  There are also a couple other cases like that, but I can't
recall them.  That's the Heralds being reincarnated into Companions side,
so wouldn't it logically follow that the reverse was true?  But then again,
logicality isn't always logical.  Can a higher power like a Companion be
reincarnated into something below it's status?

OK guys you were warned- I don't know about y'all but I'd really like to 
know how all that mage energy at the end of SB affected the Iron throne. 
 Page 423 hb states "Then suddenly, the vortex stilled, and a moment later, 
the gathered energy invested itself in the Iron Throne, leaving it glowing 
for a moment before returning-apparently-to its original state."  the next 
paragraph mentions that when Melles reached for the Wolf Crown "he could 
have sworn that the pack-leader on the front of the crown grinned at him."
S0- how is all of this magical energy going to affect the Empire or at 
least the Emperor?

Hi everyone.  I haven't been able to write for a whil because my E-mail
was doing weird things so I would just like to say I'm back.  

I was baby-sitting the other day and the kids were watching something
called jewel riders and it kind of reminded me of Companions and Hearlds
because it is about a select few who protect the land and the have
horses who mind speak.  That is about the only similarity in the whole
thing given that it is a childrens cartoon but I thought it was
interesting.

It was my impression that they *all* were supposed to learn grounding and
centering. It not only makes sheilding easier, but all use of gifts (both
active and passive) easier. (NO, I don't have a textref!)

Don't really need textref for that one its more common sense.  Unless 
someone knows where their center of balance is things are difficult (in 
the case of a herald, knowing where the shield or at least the energy 
center is, should be good) As for grounding, they have to know where and 
waht to do with that energy to release excess buildup.  Or know how to 
remove the energy infused in thier shields.  Since all the heralds had at 
least 1 gift, it was a necessity that they got this training.
