Welcome and I hope you enjoy your time here. To make your stay here more enjoyable, both for you and for others, may I ask that you please observe standard list netiquette about snipping and multiple messages. Snipping is when you delete part of a quoted message. When you respond to a message, you should quote no more of the original message than is necessary. The goal is that your comments should be at least as long (and preferrably much longer) than the quoted material. Multiple messages (more than 2 or 3 in a single day) are definitely a bad thing, since they overload the server that hosts this list. Auntie Mel, the listowner, has suggested that people read all of their new messages from the list before replying and that we try to combine replies into a single message. This reduces the load on Vanyel (the server) and increases the likelihood that the list will be able to remain here. If you would like more information about the netiquette for this list, please let me know and I will send you copies of the NewbieFest (which will also be posted at the beginning of every month--next posting will be July). Well, if this helps the debate on whether it is possible, I knew a stallion who had a distinct preference for geldings....and he got loose a few times. "I disagree with this comment. In one of the Last Herald Mage books (I can't remember which one), all the children who would become mages were being killed before they could get chosen. Wouldn't some heralds suddenly discover that they have the mage gift?" I don't think it's possible to just suddenly aquire a new gift. I think they were born with what they have, and the children being killed were an attempt to get more heralds with the mage gift, but it couldn't happen and there probably wasn't much anyone, including the gods, could do about it. I think that it is very possible that there is a purpose for Karal's blindness. Many blind people sharpen other senses and improve on skills to the point we couldn't dream of. In mindspeech, I think that one would transcend the lang. barrier because two words in diff. lang.s with the same meaning are associated with the same thought or idea, which is what is mindspoken, rather than the actual words themselves. I also wonder if its possible for good people or beings to reincarnate as Companions.
