Fair enough. I guess it was mostly because she was rude for the second time that day to me. And because making assumptions about ALL fans is as bad as assuming we're all harmless. I guess I'll never look at Cons as innocently as I have before. I always thought of it as a great opportunity to get together with other fans and discuss in person like we do here on the list. But your right. Apparently there are a few even on this list that are not firmly grounded. (Not to be super offensive but...) like the guy talking about his brother doing magic. I at first assumed he was talking figuratively, now I'm not so sure. Or that stupid chain letter. Can people truly believe in demons and magic in our world? I guess I'm just naive. For those of us who get large quantities of email already, it is REALLY obnoxious to keep having to download spam over and over again. He sent the thing out, and he was chastised accordingly. If you want to vent about something that some list member posted, mail the friends you have here and vent about it. I understand how tempting it must be to tell everybody here about what's going on in your head because just about everyone here is incredibly cool, but... It becomes more than a little frustrating to wade through 40-odd messages that have no more content than arguing with one another and getting facts straight about what so-and-so said about whichever topic. This is a Misty-list, guys. Meant to discuss her books. Obviously, there's going to be some out-put discussion stemmed from Misty-related topics. But those out-discussions have taken over the list as of late. I'm not here to dictate rules about how the list should operate, but Korendil was right when she/he said that we don't need a lot of "me-too"s. It's great that everybody is excited to read everything posted, but reading the 10th "Yeah, I got that too." post becomes a waste of server-space and our reading time. So, just try to be more careful about what the topic is and how far you go with it. and to eat my own words, i know there's as lot of discussion about a Velgarth movie--how it would be done, who to cast, etc. here's my question: Has Misty ever been asked about or made comments to that effect? i'm interested in her thoughts... --Hamlet "Some people do heroin, you're doing God... Tia is a great character and she certainly won my heart & I too would like a sequel. Yes, I understand that Tia needed to have a body to go "on-site" and therefore that body would be for all things - but it was too easy. Korendil, thankyou for the answered questions by Misty - much, much appreciated. Green is the colour but a friendly green of being able to talk with her. Now to get to Australia some day... I have just started the Misty's Urban fantasies and am enjoying them immensely - in between marking 90 page health assessment tomes. Yes, if I didn't set 'em as an assignment I wouldn't get them back to mark! but 90 pages...... Yeh, I didn't set a word limit either..... Ho, hum. Your reaction to that one-chapter preview was exactly the same as mine! (Well, since I borrowed the Bard's Tale books from the library instead of buying them, I guess it wasn't *exactly* the same, but close enough....) The characterization in that piece of writing drew me in the same way the Arrows/Talia books did. I haven't actually read 'Searched yet, but I'm getting to it. I just finished Partnership, but I'll have to have my library transfer 'Searched in, since they don't seem to stock it. (They didn't have Partnership, either, but they did have The Ship Who Sang, and they've got one or two of the latest books in that series. It's only a moderate-sized library, and the sci-fi/fantasy section is relatively small.) 'Sang is a good book, worth reading, but the second half is much better than the first half, so some of you pickier readers might have to suffer through some drier material before getting to the good stuff at the end. Partnership is quite different in tone/style -- being written decades later and as a collaboration is bound to do that, I guess. It's pretty good, too -- it reminds me of White Gryphon a bit, with lots of courtly/nobility-type intrigue and scheming, but in a high-tech setting. Spicy garlic sheep for the non-Misty content. I wouldn't say the Bard's Tale books are "horrid", but they're not up to the standards of the Velgarth books, or even the Bardic Voices. Read them, but don't buy them. ;-) Oh, and if anyone who's played the Bard's Tale games is curious -- there's almost no overlap between the books and the games. They used a couple of the song names/effects from the games, but almost nothing else. ------------ Greg Wooledge ------------- ------- wooledge-+AT+-kellnet.com ------- --- http://kellnet.com/wooledge/main.html --- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 07 Jul 1997 18:12:38 PDT From: "Ana Cotton" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: time passes.. Message-ID: <33C1CAD6.71D2-+AT+-earthlink.net> Mel, While I understand your desire to make sure there are no copyright infringements, excessively long posts or chain letters, you made one comment I'd like to address: First of all, I signed onto this list less than a week ago. My first long post containing posts from other services regarding Dragon*Con, was done at the request of both Morgan Morey, who headed Queens Own Collegia, _and_ Misty, with whom I have been speaking almost daily regarding these issues. She wanted the data spread far and wide, specifically to _avoid_ rumor and innuendo. Ditto the message I have forwarded from Matt Roberds, a HighFlight resident. That I erred in the form of the transmission of the first set of messages has been apologized for already, and I feel have been castigated therefor quite enough. Thus far, with the exception of a few messages actually regarding Misty's writing it seems most of the traffic around here has been either accusations, recriminations or denigration. I don't need this. I am a scholar on Celtic and Magical studies, who was asked to sit on panels with Misty, Larry and Mark for QOC on the subject of magic and mythocultural history. Now, if I have so violated the customs of this place, I'll withdraw to lurker mode. I had thought that, as fans of Misty's work, you _might_ conceivably want to hear about what was happening. Perhaps I was mistaken.
