Recently, we have entered another cycle of list netiquette violations and problems. With the encouragement of Mel Harper, several members of the list have come together to form a new group. This group is the Council of Mist and will exist to deal with problems on the list that arise from violations of the Rules of Thumb or netiquette. Each member of the council has been carefully selected for their helpfulness and diplomacy. We will work to remind people of the guidelines for posting on this group and to help people who need advice on how to deal with problems on the list. Mel will continue to do her sterling work as ListMistress, maintaining the list and handling technical problems, but the Council will now take care of personality conflicts and other "user" problems. Mel says: The Council of Mist is being set up with my full cooperation and blessing; they are doing what I wish I had more time to do myself. They speak for me in these matters. The members of the Council are: Cennydd, the Mage of Green Silences Lady Eleonora Meg, The Welcoming Committe Ailsa N'ha Winifreyda Ailsa Reid Emily the Invisible Kara, the Disciple of TextEvd Deniz, The High Priestess of Procrastination If you have problems or complaints about someone's behavior on the Misty list, you can contact one of these people. Hopefully, this will reduce the amount of flaming and animosity that occasionally creeps onto the list. If you are new to the list and have not received a copy of the newbiefest, where the Rules of Thumb and the Guidelines are available, you can ask for it from one of the Council-members or you can visit the NewbieFest webpage at: HTTP://www.udel.edu/kenny/pers/newbiefest/newbiefest.html We hope that the efforts of this newly formed group will help to make the Mercedes Lackey mailing list a more amicable and enjoyable place. If you have suggestions please let one of the council-members know. My name is Bill Pomeroy and I live in Massachusetts. The later book (Winds and Storms) seemed to still have character development, but the main focus seems to be the plots, which are a lot more complex than they were in Misty s earlier books. Or is that to rude? Right then, on the Eldan and Kero question: MHO is that they were not lifebonded, merely lovebonded. It was something Stef said in Winds of Fury, to Skif and Nyara.. He said that one of those in a lifebond will be moody, suicidal, etc and that the other would be steady, love life, etc. And somehow I just can't see either Eldan or Kero as moody or suicidal. And they did survive the long seperation. Even if they were visiting via dreams--which were not deliberate on eithers part. Having now put in my .50 (adjusted for inflation), is anyone going to Continuum in Cape Girardo, MO (sp?)?? It's mainly a Bab5 and Trek con, but it will have a Dealers' room and Dances... I would like to comment on this, related to a post I made before. Ok, so its not exactly misty stuff, I'm sorry. 1. It is not necessarily that this guy thinks his brother's a mage, but that the brother thinks he is. 2. Believing in something evil that may not exist is dangerous, powerful and evil in its own right. 3.Some people have magic as a part of their religion, and would never use it to harm others- or to be a crazed fan living in a dream. They are perfectly sane and in touch with reality. (not to start a religious war) I happen to at least study some of those religions and do not want to be confused with a lunatic. I read books, I go to shops. I do not kill small animals or go by the name Dark Sorceror after sunset. I don't want to be flamed for being a harmless agnostic. Point made. =) PS I'm not trying to flame, just want to have a voice on the matter, so don't take it personally. Also, I think the junk mail was just a joke, not real fear of demons. I think that this post is hypocritical. What happened to talk only about Misty? What happened to 'let's flame online'? I am quite thoroughly offended that some consider themselves SO above mistakes. Get over yourself. By the way, this is to no one in particular. I'm sorry this isn't misty-related, but I haven't been able to check the list for a few days, and I've been flamed by some people on my 2nd or 3rd post. I'm also sorry because I know this is really over posted, and when my temper cools I will probably apologize, but I can't stand it when people are arrogant. I felt this needed to be said online because I am sure there are a number of you who (newbies, especially) are frustrated by the amount of arrogance that some older listmembers display when triggered. No one is perfect, and no one is above mistakes. I don't care how long you've been on the list. Message-ID: <01IL1P9MNVFM9IA3D8-+AT+-swt.edu> I would personally like to see the books be a little bit longer so we can have some more of that great character cevelopment along with the complex plot. Misty is one of the best character makers that I have ever read. But then again, she probably has deadlines to meet for publishing, so it might be a little more difficult for Misty to make her books longer. I have also enjoyed her collaborative works as much as the Herald series. Just MHO! I went to school with some and I work with one as well. I will say this up front that I do follow the line that nobody is wrong. We all have our own belief systems. Sometimes, they tend to coincide with what other people believe. Although I think that what Josepha said was abit on the harsh side. That panel did say at the beginning that it was not going to pull punches. As for Misty and Larry's troubles at the con, I truly wish that they had not happened. If only for the fact that this probably means that she won't be attending any other cons for awhile, if at all. By the way that is only opinion!!!! Not fact. I do not know that for certain although I would assume as much. I thought that they handled themselves and the panel as well as the fans quite well. /weirdo mode off! If the Council can't decide for sure, they may bounce the question to Mel, but this probably won't be necessary that often. And if you prefer to ask Mel directly, it isn't going to upset anyone on the Council. Basically, until and unless Mel says "no, don't send these requests to me" you can send them either to her or the Council.
