I know it's been some time, but I am still catching up with the messages. I think the sprit itself has neither gender nor sex. orientation. So it does not really matter that much what you start again in your next life. I have been at least once an ordinary man (doesn't everybody want to be a famous person in one of their previous lives?), a black woman, a lion, a small creature like a salamander or gecko kind of (it's so difficult looking at yourself), and now am a gay male (Please excuse if my personal view of the world clashes with your religious belief) ########### Shaych companions, and their "options" Well, is sex all that defines being shaych?? or is there maybe also the topic of feelings etc. ????? I agree that sex is important and most probably having hooves etc. makes for a different sex live in the first place (no matter whether straight or not) but I think that definitely is not everything. Have you never enjoyed rubbing noses, cuddling, kissing, and all those other not-really sexual yet intimate and arousing moments/ actions ? And I bet there are horse and companion equivalents to these things. Sorry if I come across quite strongly but this is a topic that always bothers me in real life. (Love is more than sex) ########### Tylendel / Stef and Reinc. and retaining of gifts Kara wrote: >Jess wrote: >>If Companions are able to retain their sexuality and personality >>do you think it would be possible for them to retain the gifts they >>had as Heralds (i.e. Fetching, Farseeing, Foreseeing, Empathy, >>Firestarters, Mages)? > >Interesting question! *Van* certainly kept (maybe even augmented?) his >Gifts in his "incarnation" as the spirit/ghost/whatever of Sorrows. >However, since that incarnation or spirit-survival is definitely the >exception, not the norm, I don't think it constitutes proof. Whether the >mind-magic Gifts do as well is anyone's guess. I always thought that Tylendel just talks "through" Stef, since that is how he can reach Vanyel, yet that they are different "souls". Will reread and look for textevd. Gifts seem to be transfered genetically not through re-incarnation, I agree with Kara here. Of course the experience that a person has collected and is able to retrieve from his past life will aid in whatever he is doing (he/she might remember how to ground and therefore do it much easier). Oh and about Vanyel in the Forest of Sorrows, I don't think he is "reincarnated" there, he is just no longer in his physical body the way he was before, still fulfilling his job in the present "life". That is why he still is the Vanyel we all know and love (Maybe I should apply to the Order of Amber and Marigold). ############# Mindspeech - language boundaries eos419-+AT+-aol.com wrote: >BTW something I've been wondering is does mindspeech cross language >boundries? I think that language is not converted, so people of different languages can not mindspeak, but I do remember (or am I getting old) having read somewhere someone mindspeaking in symbols and pictures, to make up for the gap between. ############## eos419-+AT+-aol.com wrote: > I'm discussing the sex lives of fictional spirit horses. Where did my life go? Welcome to the Madhouse! ############# someone wrote: Taran, book by someone else (?) - resemblance with Vanyel - has a white horse etc. I think this is simply a coincidence revolving out of mythical and mystical symbols and general usage / repetence of certain ideas. The Unicorn (a white horse with something annoying on the head . you try to run through the forest with something sticking out like that!) are often connected with keepers of knowledge etc. White stands for innocence, purity and truth. Imagine the Companions being black, murky-colored snakes or maybe cats, possibly one-eyed. Now imagine them on their circuit coming to the village, having to hold court. Any questions? I think with the western cultural background most of us have, we would rather tend to distrust that person (luckily things are changing and for example women with red hair or others considered witches for example are no longer burned/ killed like it used to be until not too long ago) ############# OK, I have read through 176 mails today and am still not finished with reading all my messages, so please excuse if something has previously been answered to death. No kidding. :-) I've read the trilogy four times myself, and I can still get just as much enjoyment out of it every time I read. I think the LHM series tended to have too many obvious character "bloopers"...i.e. Van not taking Savil very seriously. Just mho. "Why ask why? I just looked at her and said "You want me to read all three of them?" (I of course am fully capable of reading 3 or more books in a weekend, but just because, not because I had to) She just smiled and said "You'll will." Needless to say, I did and have been hooked ever since. Kaeldra ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Jul 1997 21:53:53 From: "A. Alas that >I don't get the same feeling from the "Winds" or "Storms" trilogies. There aren't many good fantasy writers anymore... The ones who are really good, like Misty, can be read over and over again... There are tons of people I have yet to read, (like Marion Zimmer Bradley) who friends of mine keep nagging me to try. I'll come back around to Misty sooner or later, though, and probably read the books in the same order I started them with... Vows and Honor, Arrows of the Queen, LHM... I just finished the Storms trilogy (only took 12 or 15 hours), and am reading the Mage Wars now... I'd like to have some order to it (chronological would be nice), but there's a lot of competition for Misty's books here... B-B-Q dragons to all! (giggle!) I've done that before. It was a combination of medical books, history books, and SF. I didn't go back to the bookstore for the rest of that month.
