I first read the Winds trilogy (not the best place to start but I had no idea what I was getting myself into). I realized when I bought the books (I picked them because of WoFate's cover art and story line) that it was a trilogy...but imagine my surprise when I realized how many other books were tied into that trilogy! At the same time I had discovered Melanie Rawn and her Sunrunners (Summerstar you aren't kidding when you say that you need a geneology chart just to keep up!). Well to get to the point I have obviously been hooked ever since and have been reading like a madwoman just trying to get the Velgarth series completed. The only Velgarth books I have not read is the Gryphon series. I am currently reading the "Free Bards" compilation and so far so good. I read "Children of the Night" while on vacation in May/June and I really enjoyed that one. **************************************************************************** RT wrote: >Oh and about Vanyel in the Forest of Sorrows, I don't think he is >"reincarnated" there, he is just no longer in his physical body the way he >was before, still fulfilling his job in the present "life". > > Question: What happend to his phisical body? any sugesstions? I am about to show my science fiction roots:) IMO Van's physical body just disappears like Yoda and Ben Kenobi did in Star Wars. I do believe that both died differently yet their bodies still disappeared the same way. I believe that Van's physical body was destroyed by the amount Magic he was using for the Final Strike. The massive amounts of energy just caused his body to fade from existence as he used his own life forces to augment his magical attack. However I do not think his body was blown to bits and floating back down to the northern forest (very imaginative Greg :-). OTOH I would tend to agree that this would be the most likely thing to have happen to a physical body when using so much energy but the book MPrice states "The carnage centered around one spot, a place clean of snow and dirt, scoured right down to the rock, with the stone itself polished black and shining." IMO his body was immediately absorbed into the earth at that spot at the moment of his death. To me it is kind of like a combination of the peaceful way Yoda and Ben died and getting blown to molecule size bits:)) **************************************************************************** Stacey Clements (Volt Comp) wrote: > It'd be fun to have Elspeth and Darkwind start a fam. I have not read "When the Bough Breaks" but if this character had Schizophrenia I do not think their different personalities would be very well defined. If the personalities were well defined then it sounds more like MPD. In MPD some personalities are aware of the other ones. Typically the ones that are aware are the "protectors or more aggressive" personalities. Some personalities may be very child like in nature and they most likely would not be aware of the other personalities. Chantal/Aerden wrote: >Issica--It's called Multiple Personality Disorder or Dissociative Disorder >(I think that's the new-fangled name for it). People with MPD aren't >considered schizophrenic, but neurotic (if even that is considered a valid >term anymore--I dunno). The correct name for Multiple Personality Disorder is Dissociative Identity Disorder. Generally in the Mental Health Community the word neurotic is not politically correct any longer though it was used for many years to describe a person's general behavior. Neurosis' general definition is: any of various functional disorders of the mind or emotions...as in anxiety and panic related disorders. MPD is "characterized by the presence of two or more distinct identities or personality states that recurrently take control of the individual's behavior". Transitions between personalities are often triggered by stressful situations (DSM-IV..Manual of Mental Disorders). Okay, I first read Misty waaaaay back. I found the LHM books, they looked interesting, and I loved 'em!! So then I looked for more by the same author... Nothing. No more books to be found. A few months later, I found the Arrows books. So for a long time I naturally assumed that the LHM books were written first! Then I joined the list, and people kept talking about LHM as coming after Arrows. I kept correcting people, until someone told me to look at the darn copyright dates! Sure enough, LHM came later. Anyway, I devoured anything Lackey after that. The only thing I haven't read are all her collaborations, specifically Tiger Burning Bright and Elvenbane. I've read pretty much all the rest, like If I Pay Thee Not In Gold (which I thought was pretty good, BTW). My favorite is LHM, then By the Sword, then... Hmmm.
