I found the answer to why no vrondi bugged Kethry. Listen to this quote from WOFury (Vanyel is speaking in Sorrows) "The borders have changed since I set the spell, and so far as the vrondi are concerned, the "border" really ends where the presenceof active, on duty Heralds ends." Now, Roald wasn't on-duty so the border was just a little short of where they were. Someone asked about the Haighlei gods once, but no one knows anything about them. Well, I was reading WoFate & I found a reference to o god that just might be Haighlei. Listen to this: "'I don't know the answers to your second and third questions,' Kero replied, as Elspeth closed her eyes and concentrated on the coolness against her forehead. 'But I can tell you the answer to the first. There's a spiderweb brand on his palm. He's one of the followers of the Cold God. They hire themselves out as assassins, and they're very expensive becuase they don't get caught. He was either providing a legacy for a family, or doing penance for some terrible sin. If you hadn't killed him, he'd have killed himself.' Kero dropped the cloth and sat back on her heels, and Elspeth opened her eyes and gaped at the older Herald, her nausea forgotten. 'I've never heard of anything like that!' she exclaimed. Kero nodded. 'Not too many people have; the Cold One's advocates come from farther south than anyone I know has been except Geyr. He's the one who told me about them, after the last try at your mother, and told me what to look for. Said that if Ancar really got desperate and knew how to contact them, he might try hiring one of the Cold Blades.' She frowned. 'I didn't take the threat seriously, and I should have-and believe me, it won't happen again. Frankly, you were lucky-they usually aren't that careless. And there is nothing, _nothing_, more dangerous than a suiciadal fanatic.'" page 35 What do you all think of that? Hope it helps. Someone else said that wedon't find out what the Shin'a'in a guard until SR, well guess what. That's not true! In WOFate Darkwind says:"Somewhere out there, buried beneath grass and soil, are the weapons that caused all this. And not all of them require an Adept to use them." Anyone figure out what book I'm reading yet? BTW Greg, I only meant I was surprised. I have no problem with your list favorites. Everyone deserves their own opinion, & I will not interfere with that opinion. Oh and please don't refer to me as Oceania. I said it when I first joined & I'll say it again 'I go by the name of Sorana Shadowcat.' Thank you. After some considerable thinking I think my favorite 'bad guy' had to be The power trio, that being Ancar, Hulda and our belvoed, one and only you hate to hate him Falconsbane. I say all three because IMHO you can't have one without the other two. IT just would not work. Now, for the most, uhm...creative, scene I think had to be when the demon came up from the bowels of hell and made the bad merc into a woman. I wish we had heard more about that. It was an interesting plotline that I think would make an interesting storyline...*goes to get a book*, Thalhkarsh was the name of the demon. The whole thing was very powerful and interesting to read. I think that Oathbound goes as being at least #3 in my favorite list. In conclusion, you kinda have to like ALL the villians to appreciate the book. If anything, I wish Misty had put more into the story about them. Like, where Hulda came from. We know she came from the Eastern Empire. But where was she before that? Any thoughts? Wrede (she just gets better) Guy Gavriel Kay (One word: oy!) Anne McCaffrey Pterry (I love to laugh and think at the same time) Steven Brust (such dense, dangerous reading; and so very, very stylish) And that is it for a while. I suppose I could try and come up with my favorite scenes, but I won't. I think Savil would win, first she's more stubborn and second, she has Kellan to feed her and trained with the Taleydras. Kethry has Need but when Kethry had the sword, Need was 'asleep' so wouldn't feed her or protect her from magic. Also, Kehtry was a mage so Need made her a warrior. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 Jul 1997 11:31:09 -0700 From: Jack & Moira To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Shin'a'in proverbs??
