Yes, The White Mists of Power is definately a very good book. What's it about....well it's easier if I just copy the back cover for you. Thisone is (amazingly) mostly accurate. "The hounds of death had pursued the bard right to the magician's hidden citadel. And this desperate encounter between Bard Byron and the magician named Seymor would prove a time of destiny's change for both of them. For even as Seymour attempted a spell to save Byron, a deeper magic rescued them from the very jaws of death. Together bard and magician were forced to flee to the king's palace, the one place where tey hoped to find sanctuary from countless enemies. And along the way Seymour learned that Byron was more than a simple bard. He was a man possessed by the white mists of power, perhaps the long-prophesied bringer of a terrifying doom to all human kind...." Hope that helps. Enjoy! Although, the copyright owner would be the performer or production company, rather than Misty, if I understand performance copyrights correctly. Actually, after the sampling scandals of the 80's and early 90's, musical performance copyrights have gotten much tighter and copyright owners are much more vigorous in defending their rights. It used to be that you could use up to 10 secs without violating the copyrights of the owner, but I think that is no longer true. The whole issue of performance and artistic copyright is a much stickier issue than text copyright, however, and I haven't really looked at that section of the copyright code very closely. If you are interested, I can post the appropriate URL's for the online copies of the US Copyright Code and the Berne Convention (the international copyright code). Tylendel's connection to his brother was such that it far superceded anything else in his life. I got the impression that it may have been stronger than even his link to Vanyel. The death of his brother so traumatized him that he literally lost complete touch with reality, and the only goal left in his life was avenging his death. He was so obsessed with revenge that he was blocking his plans from his companion, and Vanyel was so dependent on Tylendel that he didn't realize the extremes that he was willing to go to. I don't think that Tylendel was "corrupted" as it was put in one of the novels... I think he was just traumatized so badly that he literally could not tell right from wrong. I do not think that he was evil in the least... on the contrary. And as for the "succombed to temptation" remark, well, that's a wad of bull. There wasn't any temptation involved here. People who are subjected to extreme emotional trauma can do some extreme things. Nightveil -------------------------------- Joseph W. Gala made mistakes, Van made mistakes everybody made mistakes. So > really, they shouldn't of said all of this mean stuff, but then again, this > was written before LHM was made. On the other hand, what Tylendel did was truly evil. He was trying his best to commit premeditated mass murder, and was willing to sacrifice anyone (including Vanyel) to do it. To be honest, there are some acts for which no mitigating circumstance is sufficient to disculpate the person who commits them. Tylendel's insanity does not mean that he is innocent or guiltless. It is a reason, not an excuse. Insane or not, he was not a good person at the point when he summoned the wyrsa and I get the feeling that the Companions are not particularly "understanding" about evil. Humans, because we are so prone to falling by the wayside at odd moments, tend to idealize forgiveness, but Companions, who probably don't ever have the same kind of lapses as humans have, may not ever see those as forgivable. My impression is that one of the things that Gala's repudiation of Tylendel was intended to show was that there is a line across which Heralds cannot go, whatever the reason. Part of my reason for thinking this is the wording that Gala used: "I do not know you. You are not my Chosen." To me, this suggests that Tylendel had gone past the line and had ceased, by his own volition, to be a Herald. He was doing something that, by definition, no Herald *would* do. Naturally, Gala did not know him. He was not the person that she had chosen. Of course, the interesting question remains: if Gala and Tylendel had survived, and he had been cured of his insanity, would Gala recognize him again and accept him as her Chosen? We'll never know, but it seems possible that she would have, since the other Companions did (or so the ringing of the Death Bell implies). Anyway, those are my thoughts on the matter. Caveat Emptor. "Wings of Fire" Sword & Sorceress VIII 1991--Bradley (Takes place long after Oathbreakers in over). The death of a Shin'a'in shaman lead T & K to search for a missing Talyedras Adept. "Woman's Weapon" Sword & Sorceress IX 1992--Bradley T & K find corruption in the Tanner's Guild. (A mystery). "Friendly Fire" Sword & Sorceress X 1993--Bradley Some days everything just seems to go wrong. Ele's note: I have no idea if that one is T&K or not. "Stolen Silver" HorseFantastic 1991--Greenberg Ele's note. The last one is the story of Alberich being chosen and really enjoyable, IMHO. Hope this helps. To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Bondbirds and other things Message-ID: <199708050231.TAA00614-+AT+-f55.hotmail.com> Ok. I have recieved a few messages concerning bondbirds. Here are the answers to the mosted asked. It saves time and can explain somethings to those who already have bondbirds. 1. Bondbirds are only ON THE COMPUTER. I do not send you birds in real life. 2. Yes you can breed the birds, with any bird of you chooseing. But please, if you do, tell me. I am trying to keep a family tree. 3. It does no good to ask me what they eat. They are mostly meat eaters, so give them meat. All of them will eat meat. So when you give your bird a snack in a message, as long as it is meat, it does not matter. That is all the questions for now. I have a request. Everyone with a bondbird already, please send me it's info. Name, breed, and sex. Everyone seems to forget to send me it's sex, and that does not help much. I can not create new bondbirds without knowing the old ones. Well I can, but it is hard. Gala forsake 'Lendel, when he went mad. After she died, the rage went cold inside of him. I think at that moment, when all thoughts of revenge and murder left his head, he became a Herald again. Or at least the Companions thought he did. Didn't the ones that came through the gate stand around him protectivly. And the death bell did ring for him. I have a question. I thought that lifebonds took the minute the people saw each other, but in MPawn, Savil did not think that Vanyel and 'Lendel bonded untill the night that 'Lendel's brother died(no text, will someone look it up for me.) Did the matter of what happen to a person's Companion if they were choosed to be MO and they were already Chosen. Have the Gods and Goddess's been choosen yet. If not, does anyone know when they will be. A riddle for everyone. What book does this come from= What of the hunting, hunter bold? Brother, the watch was long and cold. What of the quarry ye went to kill? Brother, he crops in the jungle still. Where is the power that made your pride? Brother, it ebbs from my flank and side. Where is the haste that ye hurry by? Brother, I go to my lair to die? Anyway, about kimchee, I was just reading Jinx High again, and I ran across the word in tere. Actually, I think I've run across it in all of the Tregarde series and in Chrome Circle, though not in the Elves in LA trilogy...other than that I think it is safe to say it';s an expression that pops up in the Urban/Modern series, yes.... At the risk of sounding pedantic, it's Shin'a'in counterpart is "ke'a'char." I have to make an apology on one of my posts about hardback Misty...I COMPLETELY forgot about the Storm trilogy being in hardback, and I even read "Storm Breaking" in hardback. So I apologize and herewith admit to needeing to be flogged for that one. *grin* Snowshadow snowshadow-+AT+-juno.com ICQ UIN-124313 > ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 1291 **********************************
