Tjhey are correct. This is going through my friend who hacked into my email. :) Yah, because of this, I can't post the Misty Awards results untill the 16th of September. Or slightly earlier if I get my friend to help... Sorry for any inconveniences caused by this. On the Tylendel thingey: He was crazed by the loss of his Twin. Come on! Give the guy some slack! Look, if you were a seventeen year old with a traumatic childhood where your sibling was the only one who gave a damned shit about you, and some idiot out there shot down that sibling in cold blood, wouldn't you do what he did? Go totally berserk and find ways and means to avenge your sib? Van was another matter. I agree with whoever it was who said that he just unrepudiated by 'Fandes because Valdemar needed him for that little problem up North. I can't believe that I can't find the S&S stories by Misty! Life is so Unfair! I suppose that it would be hopeless if I asked for any kind soul to copy out the stories and mail them to me? Coz that would be breaking copyright laws? Yah *dejected*? It's one of the reasons Elspeth's Companion was Grove born, to deal with her hidden Mage Talent. Plus, in order to be Chosen, a Herald HAS to have mind magick of some sort. It's one of the requirements. The way I understand it, a Companion can read and measure your soul. And to clarify, I think the part about Yfandes repudiating Vanyel, is referring to much later, when Van was taken prisoner in the mountains, beaten and raped, then took revenge when he was free. (that IS what you guys are talking about, right? Otherwise I think I'm lost!) My personal opinion on the repudiation subject: Tylendel blocked EVERYONE out, including his Companion. He no longer was able to fulfill his duties as a Herald, because he had no other interest in life than the revenge of his twin. He was obsessed, for quite some time, and it became irreversible. With Vanyel, however, when he had his little revenge incident, He didn't block everyone else out, and lose interest in his mission to protect Valdemar. Companions are also interested in revenge. They're people too. And very protective. How do you think Rolan felt at the treatment of Talia? and Gwena has had some nasty thoughts about blood path mages. However, since we have no intention of Selling the material, or widely distributing it, hopefully there's no copyright problems. I don't think making an audio book for a friend for private "in truck" use is going to be too much of a legal problem, but I suppose you never know. We should probably petition Misty or her publisher to release an audio book set, to let them know the need and desire is out there. Hopefully, then, we won't have to worry about it ! Even Savil said, "It wasn't his fault, Jaysen." Besides, as Jack said, Yfandes choose Vanyel after he helped Tylendel, so obviously she thought Vanyel has the qualities required of a Herald. >The Companions DO know their chosen's gifts before they Choose, I'm >pretty sure anyway. It's one of the reasons Elspeth's Companion was >Grove born, to deal with her hidden Mage Talent. Plus, in order to be >Chosen, a Herald HAS to have mind magick of some sort. But as Ylsa said in _Arrows of the Queen_, (in answer to Neave's question "Does everybody have this kind of--uh--gift?") "Again, yes. The catch is that most people don't have enough of the ability for it to be really useful to them... As far as that goes, there are some of us whose Gifts ar hardly stronger than those of nonHeralds." So wouldn't that mean that Companions judge primarily by heart and character instead of by Gift? >And to clarify, I think the part about Yfandes repudiating Vanyel, is >referring to much later, when Van was taken prisoner in the mountains, >beaten and raped, then took revenge when he was free. >(that IS what you guys are talking about, right? Vanyel was locked for a little time in his own loop of insanity, because he was hurt so badly. He was just striking out blindly at those people that had hurt him--not like 'Lendel, who forgot everything and everyone but his own little murder-revenge plot. I'll bet that Yfandes could understand very well why Vanyel was hurtling levin bolts around, especially since she knew some of what had been done to him. Besides, if 'Fandes had considered Vanyel to be unworthy to be a Herald for any reason, I think she would have repudiated him, even if Lereath was coming from the North. At the end of _Magic's Promise_, I recall the Shadow-Lover(?) saying to Vanyel "You are not Valdemar's only hope, but you are her best hope." So theoretically Valdemar could have mustered another defense even if Vanyel *had* been repudiated? Any other thoughts on this?
