How do you find the time. It takes me about a week(if I'm lucky) to read a series, and I'm not exactly a slow reader. I'd love to know because everyone is talking about books that I haven't had the time to read yet and I'm feeling a little left behind. On the movie thing I just want to say that there would be good things and bad things about having movies made of the Misty books. The bad things are that it would probably erase the true plot of the story and make one of the subplots be the plot and have the real plot be a tiny subplot( as is always done,it seems), and just change the whole character role while they were at it. Some good things are that it might attract more Misty readers and that is always good. Just thought i'd give my two cents worth. Other books I loved/love include: The Hounds of the Morrigan Pat O'Shea The Druid's Tune O.R. Melling The Hunter's Moon O.R. Melling The Singing Stone O.R Melling Linnets and Valerians Elisabeth Goudge The Valley of Horses Elisabeth Goudge The Valley of Song Elisabeth Goudge These last three are sort of Victorian in flavor - not unlike the Secret Garden and A Little Princess, by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Joan Aiken's novels are wonderful, as well. Some of my favorites include A Necklace of Raindrops The Moon's Revenge The Kingdom and the Cave The Wolves of Willoughby Chase (and the whole series attached to it!) Someone else has already mentioned Frank L. Baum's Oz books, Lloyd Alexander, and Andre Norton. (possibly several someones). For slightly older children, I loved the first two books of the Darkangel trilogy (by Meredith Ann Pierce) - The Darkangel, and A Gathering of Gargoyles. The third book did nothing for me. Also for slightly older children (i.e. some sex and violence), *Tamora* Pierce's books are terrific - she's written two four-book series' - the Song of the Lioness Quartet, and the Immortals Quarter (all available in paperback! :-)). The books are: Song of the Lioness Alanna, the First Adventure In the Hand of the Goddess The Woman Who Rides Like a Man Lioness Rampant The Immortals Wild Magic Wolf-Speaker The Emperor Mage The Realm of the Gods (Lady Sophia looks mildly taken aback at the huge list that has just surfaced on Her screen, and apologizes to those who are not interested in this thread). RE: Books we would like to see I would like another Serrated Edge book, focusing on Joe. Of all of Misty's "hunks", I liked him the best! (Of course, he's still only eighteen, so he's still too young for me! (sigh)) I would like to see more of Jennie Talldeer and David Spotted Horse, from Sacred Ground. RE: et al I agree with whomever said that the Empire itself was not evil - just some of its leaders. I also think that the Empire might undergo some radical changes due to the current crises - they struck me as very custom-bound, and not very innovative. RE: Non-nodal magic I believe Kethry's power might have been node-dependent, but she became an Adept by calling the White Wind (whatever that may mean), and she was also able to pull energy from people's emotions, rather than only from nodes. I seem to remember something of that sort from the end of Oathbreakers... Have a nice weekend, everyone! I tried to think of actors to cast as characters from misty books, and I really couldn't think of anyone for mst of them. The reason is alot of Misty's characters are supposed to be ugly or plain. None of the popular actors, I don't think could really pull off plain, let alone ugly. Anyway, what about the LHM series. How would a director pull off the Tylendel/Stefen thing? Another thing I read, was the thing about the Mage Wars, that sounds really fun... how do they work? Sorry, if I asked questions that have already been answered. Even if they are a bit dry for that age. they still should work especially The Hobbit. I was going to say what about the DragonLance Novels. They may have some violence in them but they are generally a novel suited to that age. Since most children that age watch movies with worse in it. Maybe you should also try starting them on what they like to do. I would say a book called .... Darn can't remember the name as of the moment. It was good but it was what we call futuristic fantasy or now fantasy. It has stuff that children of our time face but it has to do with a sexually abusive father and the apparent suicide of a previous child because of it.
