It usually has to do with an addiction of some type, and the 12-steps are the basics that these organizations use to help those who have addictions (of whatever type). The first step is usually admitting that you have an addiction. I was making the comparison that most of us are "addicted" to Misty's works. All of us wait (impatiently) for our next "fix". Hope all are well, I assume most are busy with the beginning of school, and that this is the reason it's been so quiet on the list. The books which follow it are a little more serious, but they still have fun. These aren't sci-fi at all. They're about elves using magic in modern times, trying to integrate with (or destroy) human society, etc. ******************************************************************* Hmm, someone mentioned the Storms books, but I seem to have deleted that message too hastily. Rats! Anyway: 1) Only Storm Breaking is in spoilers; the first two Storms books are open for discussion without warnings. 2) Don't worry, Karal is still alive for Storm Breaking. He's the main character in all three books. Misty is very traditional that way (cf. Yep, that's Piers Anthony all right. Demons in his books tend to be pretty strange characters. >Hmm, someone mentioned the Storms books, but I seem to >have deleted that >message too hastily. Rats! Misty is very >traditional that way > (cf. Skandranon, Vanyel, Talia, Naitachal, etc.). Actually, I submit that Skan is a relatively minor character in Silver. I noticed that Misty's books tend to have dual main characters (Drake and Skan, Blade and Tad, Darkwind and Elspeth, etc.) So Silver breaks a bit with the other books having different protagonists. (I still want more books about Skan...) I though it was cool, BTW, how in Mage Wars each book begins and ends with the same word. Black: Silence. ...And for Urtho, a moment of silence. White: Light. ...And his heart had never been quite so full of light. Silver: Freedom. ...That's what it was all right. Freedom. If our English class would read these, there'd be no problem finding the theme. :> Maybe I should write an essay on it. And they also all start with a gryphon on a cliff. :> Ok quick question: "Raptor" is the generic word for diurnal birds of prey. (Eagles, Hawks, Falcons, etc.) and "Corbie" is the word for crows and ravens and such. What is the generic word for nocturnal birds of prey (owls)? -Tadrith ------------------------------------------ If we shadows have offended, Think but this and all is mended: That you have but slumbered here While these visions did appear. Heyla! 1. Yes, there is a difference between Lady of the Unicorns and Goddess. When I applied for Goddess of the Unicorns to Cennyyd, I was told the slot was already taken by someone who was goddess of Equines or some such, and that Unicorns and Pegasai were covered by her, but that I could use any other name but "Goddess" so, I became Lady of the Unicorns. You could of course, become Maiden of the Unicorns, or Servant of Unicorns, or Slave of the Unicorns, or Daughter of the Unicorns, or....you get the idea? Now,if Cennyyd is saying that I am Goddess, I can only think that I got promoted for good behavior, and will happily take up my unicorn-horn wand and make you a priestess. 2. Well, it was answered in 1. But, if you decided you wanted to become a priestess of the Goddess of Elves, now your talking....just let me know. Hope that helps. Blessed be, Wind to thy wings, May the road rise up to meet you, Cream and catnip, ************************************** Okay, some non fluff, to justify using space. I liked Lammas Night, I didn't like the fact that Misty left the story unanswered!!!!! I hate mysteries!!!!! Okay, about elves and steel, (since I am the difinitive expert) (g) Iron is the worst culprit, but steel is also bad, note uncomfortable- ness riding in cars with lots of steel and working on steel engines. So, my guess is that UK elves drink their cola out of bottles! And don't forget, teas and coffee come in cups, (For all you elven addicts out there in the UK just waiting to figure out how to go into the Dreaming...) And remember, as always, Quick is 99% caffeine free! (for just a little nap) I want Owlflight! There I've had my rant. As a writer, you should understand that each book could and hopefully will be someone's first reading of your work. They should be "reader-friendly" if you will. I haven't enjoyed the last few Pern books as much because I believe that they assume that I know the positions and relations of the minor characters. Well, it's been 5-10 years since I read the earlier ones...I wouldn't mind a sentence or two thrown in to set up characters, situations, or, in the case of kyree/tervedi, other races. Maybe this is why when reading a new series, I always try to read them in chronological order. Plus the fact that I love mysteries, and want every chance to solve them for myself.
