He lost his power base when the palace went up, so he couldn't create Makaar or anything. I was wondering the same thing. Because in Magics Price it says that Jisa hadn't been chosen yet because she was to be the Queens Own. Woundn't this always be the case. it makes more sense then having someone who was already chosen. The only way I could see that working would be to have two companions, because you can't sever the tie between a companion and it's chosen. And to my knowledge it has never said anything in any of the books about a herald that has two companions. I think that would cause some major jelousy between the two companions. JMHO. So I have some catching up to do. First of all, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Mel, for your recommendation for the "Arrows of the Queen Concordance". Now I know what to request for my upcoming B-Day! Now about where to books: I usually check out the library, but as keenath said, "the library has a habit of buying one or two of a series...", mine does too. But here's a little tidbit; ask your library if they can order a book for you. I went looking for The Oathbound, and they only had Oathbreakers, so they ordered it for me! But I was leaving on vacation the next day, and HAD to have a Misty book to take, so I bought "Sword of Ice" from a bookstore. It's 18 tales written by different people about places & people of the Valdemar world. (Misty and Larry Dixon helped with a few) Some of them are great, and others....But they're interesting to see views of the lives of people inside Karse etc. (I haven't read them all) Now, I agree with jeannie, you should start with the Arrows series. It gives a good overview of what the herald system is, and got my curiosity up to read the rest of the books. SO WHAT if it tells of Vanyels fate. I still wanted to read them! And my biggest question, and reason I started reading ALL the books is ---I wanted to find out why there is no magic in Valdemar. So here's two questions: 1) If Talia was reading the book about Vanyel, ( at the beginning of AO the Q) why is it that no one in Valdemar knows why there is no magic? I just finished reading BTS for the second time, and Kero says (pg.427) " I HAD mages with this troop." "Had " Dirk replied...Does that mean you didn't bring any of them with you?" "No,...I tried to bring them with me, but we were stopped at the border. By what, they couldn't tell me -- only that it felt as if something was watching them...That is evidently the reason why you don't have real mages here in Valdemar." And in WOF Elspeth hasn't a clue as to why either. I thought the heralds were extensively trained in history. Why doesn't any one know? And why didn't the book Talia was reading tell the WHOLE story? 2) I just started reading WOC ( I read WOF over a year ago) and someone named Tre' valen is there with Elspeth and Skif. Excuse me for being stupid, but I can't remember who Tre' valen is. Can someone clue me in (briefly) so I don't have to go back to the library & get WOF again, 'cos it may take some time to get! I realize it is right in the middle of the time-line but it gives a good general description of Valdemar, Heralds and Companions. Next I would read the LHM series, Vows and Honor, Kero's Tale, Winds series, Mage storms and of course Owlflight. I know I didn't mention the Mage Wars because I haven't read them yet so other then recommending reading them in order of the time-line I have no suggestions for them:) **************************************************************************** Well that is all for now:) Blessed Be...Jess *Councilor of Mist* ********************* "It is not the wound that shapes our lives, it's the choice we make as adults between embracing our wounds or raging against them" (Geneen Roth) ********************* ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Sep 1997 17:28:11 -0400 (EDT) From: Kenneth Allen Hyde To: Misty Lackey List Subject: Re: Most humble question Message-ID: On Sat, 13 Sep 1997, Rachel V MacArthur wrote: > Just a quick question to soothe my poor feverish, aching head... > WHAT THE HECK IS SB?!?!?!? One, the copyright issue applies only to Misty-based personae, role-playing, fan fic, and copying her works. Mel avoids the issue by not allowing these things on her site or the list. The same can work for any other list. As for free speech, yes, we can speak about any subject we like as long as we don't do anything illegal (libel, copyright violation, or yelling "fire" in a crowded theater when there isn't actually a fire). *grin* May the seas be your solace and the forests a refuge for your spirit, Cennydd, Councilor of Mist Kenneth Allen Hyde | No matter how subtle the wizard, a knife Univ. of Delaware | between the shoulder blades will seriously Dept. of Linguistics | cramp his style -- Old Jhereg proverb kenny-+AT+-Udel.Edu | A mind is a terrible toy to waste! -- Me //www.udel.edu/kenny/prof/ken.html or .../kenny/pers/green.silences.html ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Sep 1997 18:29:22 -0400 (EDT) From: Ashali9928-+AT+-aol.com To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Re: Skan reinc?/Falconsbane obssession/Misty books Message-ID: <970913182922_314638555-+AT+-emout15.mail.aol.com> In a message dated 9/11/97 7:50:36 PM, you wrote: << So why is he completely indifferent : to Skif and Elspeth in the Winds books?
