Yes, that was my impression too...but it seems more like the bad guys won
that way ( course in the real world, the good guys don't always win, so
why should Diana Tregarde's world be any different?)!!!!!

Heyla all!
 I thought it was the Heralds Sunsinger & Shadowdancer Misty wasn't going 
to write about(waaahhh:(), not the founding of Valdemar. 

 You know, when we were talking about the Misty movie, we completely 
forgot about the soundtrack. That's one of the most important parts of 
the movie. Anyway, I spent some time today listening to certain tapes, & 
trying to figure out what scenes the songs would match. This is what I've 
come up with so far: "Why" by Enigma would match either just after 
'Lendel's death or just after Ulrich's. "Fairytale" by Enya would (I 
think) be good background music for Talia's fantasy of being Chosen. 
"Epona" by Enya would be good music for Talia's trip to Haven. "The 
Quest" from the tape Earthquest might be good for that too. "Boadicea" by 
Enya would be very good background music for whenever Kero fights. "I 
Want Tommorow" by Enya seems like good music for when Stef sees Van as a 
ghost in the Forest of Sorrows. "Dragons Tavern" from the tape Earth 
Quest sounded like good music for the fair in MPromise. "Celebration 
Dance" from the tape Earth Quest sounds perfect for one of the dance 
tunes at Elspeth's Coranation party. That's all I have for today. I'll 
figure out more tomorrow.

 I'd say SoI was a 6 too. Mostly I liked it, there were just one or two 
stories I really didn't like. My favorites were Bloodties, Another 
Succesful Experiment, In the Forest of Sorrows, & A Song for Noones(sp?) 
Mourning. I have no idea what that last one really had to do with 
Valdemar, but it was still a good story.

 I have to wait a whole _year_ before Owlflight comes out in paperback?!
Nooooo!!!! Wait a minute! This is what librarys are for! Next time I go 
I'll put a placehold on it. Then I'll know what everyone's talking about.

 Ooc does anyone happen to know if Misty uses any gitterns or lutes in 
her music?

 Well, think I'll go back to reading my book(Mindspeakers Call by Gayle 
Greeno), doing my puzzle, & writing a letter. (No, not all at once.)

It's a short story called "Stolen Silver" in a collection of short stories
called HorseFantastic.  A book i *highly* recommend, especially for horse
lovers. :)

I would say definitely the daughter was killed and "Fay" or whatever we are
going to call her took the body back over.  Evidence to support: 

	 1.  Creation of a new servant, exactly the same as the old.  Fay's
daughter had no idea how to do such things....hadn't really even figured
out that it was Sorcery or any other *details*, just generalities.

	2.  '....hard, calculating look in her eyes.  " I have a great deal of
unfinished business to handle.  A great deal," she repeated....'
   What unfinished business could the daughter have possibly had IF her
sorceress mother had been killed by a lightning strike?  She would have
been stuck in the older body, etc etc....and it would have ended her
"delusions" because the cause of the problem was dead anyway.

 At the end of LHM, when Vanyel tells Stef what his task is, I understood
it to be subtle.....people were supposed to be steered away from the "just
a Herald, not a Herald-Mage" idea in such a way that they didn't  realize
they were being steered...and who would have known what direction the
vrondi would have taken along the same time lines?  They had no Mages left
to tell about intruders so they just watched them indefinitely....I am
frustrated 'cause I don't think I'm stating this very well... sorry if I am
jumbly tonight.

A Shin'a'in shaman sent to the Vale as representative....I believe (a
little foggy here) he was only briefly introduced in WOF but gets more
important as WOC and WOF continue.

Like an obedient little newbie, I went and read all of the "NewbieFest"
info after getting a message from a Mist Councilor and saw a mention of
Grand Dame Heather, head of the Order of Amber and Marigold.....it was very
intriguing and also had a comment that Heather could be found in the Bower
now....this reference confused me....can anyone help?

The Heralds were sheltered from magic by their Companions...arrgghh! Die
Ant! *whoops, the little ant that was crawling over my keyboard drops to
the floor* It's not dead yet..
Anyway, the Companions placed a compulsion over the folks they were around
so that _they_ did not speak about magic. Ratha, Eldan's Companion, did
that to Kero.
It was something Stef had worked out with the Companions after Van's death.

ObMisty: I've almost finished Lammas Night.  It seems they've saved the
best stories for the end of the book -- so all of you who stopped reading
part way through might want to pick it up again, but start at the end
and work backwards.

Heyla to all,

For all who asked about the music, you can order songs written by Misty and
scored by Heather Alexander from Firebird Arts & Music.  I'm still trying to
get a handle on this Web stuff, but near as I can figgure it out you go to
http://www.iex.net/firebird/indexml.htm.  At least that is what came up on my
screen when I was looking at the on-line catalog.  If anyone has trouble with
this please let me know and I can do some more looking.  Another source is to
use a search engine and go to Quicksilver Fantasies, they have these tapes
also.

I would highly recommend any and all of her music. In the back of Magic's
Price the lycrics (sp?) to several of the songs are printed, but by no means
all.  I was unimpressed when I read them, but they sound wonderful when sung.
 There are also tapes from the Oathbound/Oathbreakers series too, and
probably some others I forgot.  I hope I am not violating any rules or
copywrites or laws by putting a plug in for these, but they are Misty's work
(at least the words).

In whichever book it is where they discover that magic had been hidden with
the vrondi as watch-spirits, it seems to me that when they discovered the
books they could read about magic but couldn't talk about it. Also they had
to think very hard in order to remember to TRY to discuss it with anyone
else.

In the last book of the Last Herald Mage series, Vanyel made a "deal" (?)
with the vrondi for them to watch any mage that was not a herald mage
within the Valdemar border.  I think the Valdemarians wasn't unable to talk
of magic, more like they simply did not remember it had ever existed,
except in songs and stories (wasn't that Stephan's work, to make everyone
"forget" about real magic?). However, I think when people from other
countries came and attempted to speak of magic, they had a difficult time.
I wish I had my Valdemar books with me so I can verify everything I said.
Oh well.  Take what I say  with a grain of salt.  :-)

The con was Dreamcon 1991, in Everett, WA.  Unfortunately that con has
since died... :-(

Now THAT is an idea!  I suppose copyrights would prevent us from making one.
Someone should put that idea to Misty though (if that's possible).  I don't
know how well it would sell, but hey, I'd buy one!
