I'm a computer engineer in real life, and twice as analytical/literal as almost anyone else I know. I don't think I'd make a particularly good Herald. I think I might be OK as a Tayledras, but a Shin'a'in is right out. Actually, I might feel more comfortable in the Empire than in the western lands, since it's much closer to "our" world. I personally think that if a movie was made it should be done with animation. Dont get me wrong, I dont mean the G-rated Disney stuff, but more like Japanese anime except with real looking people, and an M rating. Then things like Magic and magical creatures like Companions, Wysra and Kyree wouldnt look fake and they would fit in more with their surroundings. And then we wouldnt be looking at actors and actrices and thinking I liked Herald So-And-So better in LHM. Then we could also do a series like Star Wars. Please dont mention Misty and her copyright laws-this is a complete "what if" senario. :) Keenath also said that he thought that the Eastern Empire was founded by Ma'ar, but in SW it says that the mercinairies and leige-men to the great lord were warned to leave before the towers exploded. Hey, I'm a newbie, don't I get special protection? Anyways, back to ML: Really old but...I started reading Misty when I was, I think, 11 or 12(currently I'm almost 17). I first picked up Winds of Fate because I thought the cover was pretty(so I chose a book by the cover, it worked didn't it?). Anyway, I was hooked. I then went back to the bookstore for more Misty. Didn't know which books came first so I went by publishing date(that means I started w/ Arrows). Lately though, I just reading anything I can get my hands on that comes out in paperback. Okay next...did I hear someone mention stories they'd like to see? I too would like to read about the founding of Valdemar. I also always thought that the Tendrel(sp?) Wars when Selenay was a young girl would make a great book or even Trilogy, depending on where Misty started. Oh, and maybe what happened with Jisa and the rest of the gang around then after Van's death. One more, in Arrows of the Queen(IIRC)Talia mentions 3 great queens by the name of Elspeth. One was obviously from Van's time(Elspeth the Peacemaker) but I'd love to hear about Elspeth the Clever-handed or Elspeth the Wise. Last thoughts, yes the dictionary is a great idea(wish it really were available, I'd buy it in a minute) and yes, now that its been mentioned names do sound kind of odd when you say them out loud, and yes I like the idea of a list just about Valdemar(hoping permission can be granted for personalities...). Okay, this is definitely one of the longest emails I've sent anywhere in a while. Well, maybe except for Karal. Larry's Karal is really cute. I finally got Elvenbane! Yaaaayyy!!! I thought it was kinda obvious that Companions are dead Heralds once you'd read LHM & Arrows, or LHM & BTS. I mean just look how similar the names are Tantris/Tantras, Sayvel/Savil, Jasan/Jaysen, sounds sort of suspicious to me. Please excuse me if I offended anyone. I didn't mean to. I would like to be a Herald-Mage. Once I get my Whites that's what I'm going to try for. I think it'd be neat to have a Kal'enedral/Shin'a'in site. I'm very lucky. My Misty library has Fortress of Frost & Fire, The Lark & the Wren, The Eagle & the Nightingales, Magewars, LHM, Arrows, BTS, WoFate, WoFury, SW, SR, SoI, Lammas Night, & now Elvenbane! For anyone who's interested, I finally found out what Black Swan is! Black Swan is Misty's version of Swan Lake. In my opinion SG was sort of anticlimatic. I remember being vaguely disappointed when I finished it. Not that it isn't good, it is. Anything Misty wrote is good. Blackberry cheesecake sheep _are_ delicious. I should know, I've had it for my birthday (not the sheep, the cake. I don't eat real sheep, I'm a vegitarian). Well, I think that covers everything. Then I read Jinx High and hated it. My opinion, I know this is not shared by most of you. Then I read another (can't remember the name now) about her offering sanctuary to a gypsy boy. That was just OK. Sorry, maybe I would have had a better opinion if I hadn't read that wonderful short story first. Anyway, my question is two-fold: 1. Does anyone have a list of Diana Tregarde books/stories? I really don't have my mind made up on this character yet, and would like to read everything before I decide. 2. Does anyone recognize the short story and can tell me where to find it? At the very beginning, she was going to a party and used a small magic to aquire a parking place. At the party she met a vampire (or werewolf, I don't remember which) who seemed to know her. This was most intriguing and I was hoping there was a book about these two characters together. ____________________________________ There is no generic classification name for owls (i.e. raptors), at least not in my encyclopedia, because they are a unique class. After the Stigiformes definition they are just classified as barn owls, grass owls, whatever. Heck, a few color maps would be great also. And color pictures, not just reprints of the covers of the books. The bookcover colored pictures could be used, too, but I'd like to see new original works. An appendix of poems and songs could be placed in the back. They could even mention which books thinks appear in. It could be written, not in normal dictionary style, but as if someone was catologing the world. Just introduce a new character who happens to be a historian or something close, and write up a preface by this person. Tid bits and notes could also be included throughout the book. Then, I'd research the rules of magic and catolog the different types of mages and also things like the location of nodes and leylines. The heralds are to restrictive for my taste, and everyone knows when where they go. Just got back from the weekend and found a pile of email ready to take over!! After reading the posts from the weekend I have a few questions to ask..... First of all, somewhere in one of those posts, someone mentioned that they were going to make a movie out of Misty'd books.. Does anyone know when this movie is due to be released?????????????????????????????????????? Also, does anyone by chance know the relationships among gods in the Valdemarian pantheon??????? There is NO movie about any Misty book that is slated to be made to the best of my knowledge. Sorry to get your hopes up but I got a little carried away and found out that it wasn't a proper thing to talk about, and dropped the subject.
