I've been on the list for a while, but this is the first time I've written in. What would I want to be on Valdemar? Hmm, tough choice...Well, I think I'd want to be a Shin'a'in--not a Kal'enedral, I'm not much into priestesses--but the Tay'ledras scouts are a close second. If I actually lived there, though, I'd probably wind up a thief, like Skif before he was Chosen. Then I'd have to find my way to Valdemar and sneak into the Grove and have a Companion turn my life completely upsidedown. =) And, to whoever wanted to make a Kal'enedral page--go for it! I absolutly love the Kal'enedral. Wouldn't want to be one, but they're great characters! And, about the copyright laws--well, fanfics break them completely, and I've never heard of a fanfic writer getting in trouble over it. Just as long as you put a disclaimer on your page, there shouldn't be any trouble. Then again, all the fanfic's I've read are about anime series and Elfquest; I'm not sure how Misty would react. The Kal'enedral (Sword-sword) aren't really "celibate" as I think of the word -- "sexless" would be a better term. They're physiologically neuter. They have no sexual desire at all, so celibacy isn't stressful the way it would be for a "normal" person. You may change your mind(s) when you do read the Winds books. I highly recommend that before you read Storms, if you read nothing else, you should read the Winds trilogy. The Storms books are almost "Winds part 2". They use a lot of the same characters. Worse, the Storms books contain MAJOR spoilers for the ending of the Winds trilogy. Actually, the Storms books seem to use characters and/or elements from just about all the other Valdemar books. I'd recommend reading the Storms books only once you've read *all* the other Valdemar books -- but that may be taking it too far. ------------ Greg Wooledge ------------- ------- wooledge-+AT+-kellnet.com ------- --- http://kellnet.com/wooledge/main.html --- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Sep 1997 19:53:44 -0500 From: keenath-+AT+-juno.com To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Misty Dictionary Semi Braid Message-ID: <19970917.195636.11782.4.keenath-+AT+-juno.com> >And illustrations! generic Kyree, Hertasi, Dyheli, Tervardi, etc. and >specific people's pictures, like in the books.. The first Companions were Grove born, but at the time of Arrows, the only Grove-born companion was Rolan, the Queen's Own, until Gwena came. Companions usually foal. In the Arrows trilogy, it mentions Talia being on foal-watch, and in one of the books (Arrow's Flight, I think) it mentions Cymry being with foal. Are companions reincarnated? When Firesong met Yfandes, he saw her flickering from a person to a horse. In the Winds trilogy, Vanyel comments that Grove-born Companions have only one lifetime of experience to base their judgements on. Oh, and by the way, Vanyel often would see Yfandes as a woman, even when they were alive. ------------------Spoiler (Storm Breaking)---------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- At the end of Storm Breaking, after the BIG weapon is used, Karal is blinded, and Vanyel, Yfandes, Stefen, and Florian, and Need are gone. That was what i read from the bk; what talia said. > Is she Grove-born or not and if yes y? >Stefen, Gwena is Grove born. She made Elspeth,Talia and everyone else think she was not because the Companions didn't want the Heralds getting wind of the plans they had for Elspeth. Re-read Elspeths Chosing. She is drawn out to the Grove and there is a glow about it, Talia goes out to find out what is happening and Elspeth and Gwena emerge from the Grove. ************************************************ Zha'hai'allav'a Kalen Shena Vuysher'edras Kal'enedral [OIB](AKA Jason Stokes) 95662014-+AT+-mmu.ac.uk "If we shadows have offended, think but this and all is mended. I don't think any of Misty's books are out of print, but if any are or ever do and you want to get them, here is the numbr to Strawberry Hill, the book search service Barnes & Noble recommended to me... 1-800-257-1404 bye, all!
