But then I wasn't sure because other characters called him Van. So I started to think of a name that could sound like,Vanyel and the only one that came to my mind was Dan, short for Daniel. Then I thougth vanYEL would be the feminine but it would be written Vanyelle (like the feminine of Daniel, Danielle). It was just a comparison I made, but when I did, I stayed with VANyel, since his friends called him Van. But, when my boyfriend started to read LHM, I asked him about the pronuniation and he said vanYEL. I told him what I tought and he said that since Vanyel was shay'a'chern, he was beautiful and could be confounded with a girl if he dressed like one, his name as well could be pronounced as a feminine: vanYEL. Well, it's not necessarily a feminine, it's just an opinion. But now that I saw it from that point of view, I'm again at the beginning: I'm not sure anymore. :) Yaisha ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Sep 1997 23:47:56 -0500 From: Adams To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Companions Message-ID: <1.5.4.32.19970920044756.00676a10-+AT+-deskmedia.com> At 03:42 AM 9/19/97 +0100, you wrote: >Heyla, >Ok I think somebody siad they thought that Tantris was Drakes but I >think that he was Kris's. > I thought that it was evenly conceivable that Keren's Companion, Dantris, could also be Tantras. And my answer stayed the same through all this terrible thought process If anything, I'd want to be a Herald. I want to help people like they do; saving someone in even the smallest way is more important than my own life... I wouldn't want to be a Mage, though -- altogether too much power for one person to have.. Something could always go wrong, be corrupted in some way. Though I doubt that could happen to anyone with a Herald-Companion bond, the Chosen would be made aware of it by their Companion, you would think -- it's always possible. And even if I couldn't be a Herald, I'd want to do something to help them. Someone has to take care of the unChosen Companions and refill the WayStations... Personally, I don't see anything wrong with being a Companion, it'd be something I'd love to do -- but I'm not at that level of conscious, I doubt I could even be a Herald -- so I don't have much room to judge. :P We do see reincarnations, of course, but comparing names to every character, not knowing the personality, is a bit extreme. Stef/Lendel's name didn't stay the same, and besides Companions -- who, I imagine, choose their own names -- it's doubtful that just the name is enough to say that they're the same person... IMHO, of course... Ah, and someone mentioned something about Blues; about paying for their education.. I go to boarding school, so I think I should advocate there's nothing wrong with that ;) Most of the Blues were either Artificiers or nobles like Kris; it seems to me that it was a very slim minority that was that troublesome... I'm imaging rich kids are the same there as they are here, of course... I would qualify as a scholar, in that sense. I didn't get in 'cause my parents are rich. So, using that comparison, I'd have to say most of the 'Nobles' I know are quite nice; though there are a few malicious ones with nothing better to do than torment others. And all the 'artificiers' are much too buzy learning for that sort of thing... You know your an addict when... You notice that there are three major dorms in your school; and the colours are rather curious. Scarlet, green, and white. (That's what they're known as, too; the Red, Green, and White dorms..) You also notice you're dorm is the white one... You're sure there's nothing irregular about your wardrobe, which seems to consist of mainly white riding pants and loose white blouses. Nothing abnormal about _that_... And a question; I posed this to a friend the other day (you listening, ke'chara?), and I was curious of what y'all would do with it -- If you were a character -- not general, like Heralds or Healers, but like Firesong or Talia -- in the books, what one would you be? Who are you most like? Zhai'helleva -- Sarah Margaret (Algebra homework to do.... Help _me_... :D) ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 1337 **********************************
