Mel, as the owner of this list, could conceivably get in trouble if people start using this list for illegal activities. And yes, fanfic, without a release of copyright from the original author, is illegal. I'm not going to specifically address the issue of violating the copyrights and intellectual property rights (i.e. stealing from) an author who has given all of us so much pleasure by sharing her writing (something she didn't have to do). Now Talia knew every Companion in the field so she figured out that Gwena must be Grove-born like Rolan. Suddenly, Talia felt Rolan's presence overwhelming her, tinged with regret. After blinking dizzily, Talia vaguely remembered that Gwena had just been one of the shyer Companions. See, what happened to Talia is what happened in the epilougue of MPrice. The story is unfinished, just like Misty's song. Syntactically, there are other points in the story where a paragraph ends in what would normally be the middle of a sentence; that's characteristic of the "stream of consciousness" style in which the story was written. I recommend _Shepherd's Moon_ and _Watermark_ as very good albums. My favorite songs by them are "Caribbean Blue" and the Latin one that sounds like, "Carsum Parficium." (Other music suggestions, in case anyone's interested :) ) I also recommend Loreena McKinnit's albums. She's a pseudo-Celtic vocalist, and has set Tennyson's "Lady of Shalott" to music. Lovely voice. :) Renaissance, a fusion classical/rock band from the 70's, is _excellent!_ They have three albums out on CD's. Their lead singer, Annie Haslam, has a fantastic voice. Also, any music written by Hildegard of Bingen is absolutely gorgeous and heavenly to listen to. ::blissful smile:: Look for her in the Gregorian chant section of the better music stores. My favorite pieces by her are "O Virga ac Diadema" and "O Ecclesia." If you prefer a more modern introduction to her music, check out an album called _Vision_ It fuses rock/New Age beats with Hildegard's music, and it actually works together quite well. Hildegard did not write the usual 'boring' stuff that most people think of as Gregorian chant. Her music soars. I don't know how to describe it, except that it's what Heaven must sound like. _____ In general... Re VANyel vs VanYEL--I accent the first syllable because I figure Lackey probably wanted something similar to 'Daniel.' Kind of like Anne McCaffrey turning 'Melanie' into 'Menolly.' And there's no need to be catty about Lackey protecting her copyrights. McCaffrey and a lot of other authors don't permit fan fiction based on their works to appear on Web pages, either. I've found _Owlflight_, and am debating whether to buy it now or wait for it to come out in paperback. ::sigh!:: Chantal ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Sep 1997 20:46:50 -0700 From: Sorana Shadowcat To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Misty Fluff Message-ID: <34273BAA.6217-+AT+-olypen.com> Heyla all! (hah, I slipped > that one in!) Finally! Someone who appreciates my suggestion! :) Enya is wonderful! The first time I heard her music, I completely zoned out. My fav. Enya tapes are The Celts, Memory of Trees, & Watermark. The Celts is mostly instrumental, there's only like one song with lyrics on it. Memory of Trees has mostly songs with lyrics, but three of those are in another language. One's in Spanish, another one's in Latin, & I have no idea what the third one's in. My tag line comes from MoT. It's the last verse of Once you had gold, Once you had siver. A lot of the music from Watermark appeared in the movie L.A. Story. "Epona" from The Celts also appeared there. I have a couple of Enigma tapes too. I was thinking of changing my tag line to something from one of the songs in Cross of Change. It's really cool, but I can't seem to remember it. >"Sorana, I have heard your > petition and you have searched diligently and long to find out my > true nature. I am pleased. "I thank thee, my Lady Dax Goddess of Unicorns. Know that I shall try to live up to the title and position thou hast seen fit to bequeath me. I pray thou shalt always find my heart pure and my mind open to truly be of service to thee and thy Unicorns. I am most humbly yours, Sorana Shadowcat High Priestess of the Goddess of the Unicorns." IMNSHO -- I agree very much. Although other arguments I have seen lately are logical too, this one is what make the most sense in the realm of the characters etc etc to me. >We shouldn't jump to the conclusion that we know every Companion's >previous incarnation, but many we do. Actually, with the Companions, >the name stays the same because they remember their previous life. >That wouldn't be the case with 'Lendel/Stef. Good argument! I do wonder if he figured it out at a later date tho -- in WoFury when Vanyel pulls the gate to Sorrows there is a comment by Skif that 'Lendel/Stef's hair kept switching back and forth from red to blond....he couldn't be *completely* unaware at that point, could he? >I definitely think most Companions are reincarnated Heralds.... thank you, thank you for your support! :) >but I don't think most get to remember details about their past lives(just >my opinion, I have no facts). I'm not sure if they remember anything >about past lives. But doesn't it say somewhere else(I think WoFate) >that Gwenna didn't have as much experience as other Companions >because she was Grove born? Help, I'm confused!!!!!(5) The passage that I can remember that relates is set in WoFury (as above, when Vanyel pulls the gate to Sorrows) and he tells Elspeth "...Your Gwena, for all that she is Grove-born, is just as fallible as any other mortal.....as Companions go - when compared to, say, Sayvil - she is very, very young. No older than you, in fact. She makes all the kinds of mistakes any young thing makes, but because she is Grove-born, she thinks she will always make the right decision. She forgets that she has *no* real, human experience to base her decisions on...." IMNSHO -- this seems pretty clear -- most Companions are much older, and have 'human' experience....it would *seem*? that to have the experience and be able to use it, they must remember? Just my opinion, sorry if I am defending a territory to death. :) Wind to thy wings! ~~Jeannie, wanna-be-a-Knight in the 0rder of Amber & Marigold~~ ICQ #2285439 ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Sep 1997 20:59:36 -0700 From: Sorana Shadowcat To: Glasstrend-+AT+-aol.com, mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: you havegot to see this!
