So if you want a Misty room and there isn't one available, set one up! It isn't hard, and maybe you'll have a fellow fan stumble in one day wanting to talk Valdemar. There is also a channel on DALnet #valdemar . But that one is nowhere near as busy as the one on EFnet since it is basically unknown. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 Oct 1997 13:10:13 -0500 From: "Traci Harriman" To: Subject: Re: stuff Message-ID: <199710121812.LAA02348-+AT+-geocities.com> Okay. I do cringingly admit that part of the reason I have taken so long to post anything is that it's taken me this long to figure out I had the address spelled wrong in my address book so 3 previous attemps to post were returned as undeliverable. I joined this group because I had read Mercedes Lackey's co-written book with Anne McCaffrey and really enjoyed it. I had also read two of the Diana Tregard books and enjoyed them. I was lost when I joined because you were (and are!) discussing books and characters I hadn't rear/met yet. I hate to admit how long it took me to figure out that the "Misty" you were referring to was Mercedes herself. Anyway, hating to be ignorant I went exploring through the used book stores and was able to find the following books. What I would like is a recommendation as to where to start in the small collection I know have. Suggestions always appreciated and please keep in mind I will continue to collect until I have all of her books. Bardic Voices Wheels of Fire w/Mark Sheppard Sacred Ground Arrow's Fall Magic's Promise Oathbreakers Arrow's Flight The Elvenbane w/Andre Norton (I couldn't resist this one and have just finished it) Magic's Pawn When the Bough Breaks w/Holly Isle Winds of Fury Winds of Chance Winds of Fate My thanks in advance, Lisa, Stigen2-+AT+-aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 Oct 1997 15:20:41 -0400 (EDT) From: Ashali9928-+AT+-aol.com To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Blackbirds Message-ID: <971012151958_2100208978-+AT+-emout13.mail.aol.com> Ok listsibs, I have a Major question (for me at least). Arrow's Flight Arrow's Fall --These are the second and third books of the first Valdemaran trilogy. The trilogy is best read near the beginning, but before you read these two you'll want to read Arrows of the Queen. Magic's Pawn Magic's Promise --This trilogy is another that's best read early, and what you have are the first and second books. You might want to read them first and then try and find Magic's Price, the third book. Oathbreakers --This one is the second in a duology; the first book in the duology is The Oathbound. It's set before the Arrows trilogy, but can be read afterwards..if that makes any sense? :) Winds of Fate Winds of Chance Winds of Fury --These come after The Oathbound and Oathbreakers, the Arrows trilogy, and By The Sword, and you should wait to read them until you've read those. It also helps to read the Magic trilogy before these. Bardic Voices Wheels of Fire w/Mark Sheppard Sacred Ground The Elvenbane w/Andre Norton (I couldn't resist this one and have just finished it) When the Bough Breaks w/Holly Isle --As for these, I haven't read When the Bough Breaks, so I don't know where it stands in relation to Wheels of Fire or if it does at all.. the rest aren't related to each other or to the Valdemar series, but I really liked Sacred Ground--sort of a Native American version of Di Tregard, according to what I've heard--and Bardic Voices (I presume you're referring to The Lark and the Wren?) is also good. Hope I've helped some.. Four and Twenty Blackbirds is, I believe, a book in the Bardic Voices (the wren and the lark, the eagle and the nightingale, etc.) series. That's how I read them, and also found easiest to read. You are missing quite a few books in the trilogies and duologies. Sorry for my bad spelling. It's one of those days. Anyone know if Misty has a new book planned or anything else going on? Thanks bunches! I mean there is a lot of tragedy. In the war with ancar thousands of people were slain I'm sure their families wouldn't agree with you! And what happens to Talia when she's captured by ancar is not something that belongs in a semi-utopian world. And what happens at the end of SB is definitely not semi-utopian(if you've read it you Know what I mean, I won't go into further detail for those that haven't). Personally I'm glad things turn out better then they usually do in "Real" life. It's nice to see the good guy's winning out for once!! I wish the real world was a bit more like Valdemar. This is not to say I don't agree that Most of the main characters end up sickeningly happy. How ever if you were the main character would you object?! I showed it to my mom (who is also a Misty fan), & she thought it was funny, but she wanted to know who actually _changed_ the light bulb. Anyone know?
