Again, your basing this off of someone else's work. Different aothors and different worlds treat gods differently. I've read about gods of extreme power that have no worshippers!! AFAIK, Misty hasn't defined anyway to destroy a god. Besides, the worst enemy is a one that is mortal. When you fight something as powerful as a god, you realize you just might not win. But a clever mortal nemesis is much worse. One that you can't second guesse, but who seems to be able to read your mind. Trust me, I know. -- On the way back they sang a number of tuneful and reflective songs on the subjects of peace, justice, morality, culture, sport, family life and the obliteration of all other life forms. ................................ Like, the fact that the games already existed means that for some reason it could cost up to $50k to get rights back, or somesuch. It *was* several months back. Oh, a few other little tidbits: Fan-fict is, as Ellie said, a major no-no. A minority of authors don't mind fan-fict, but most do. It's part of the reason Misty, among other authors (RObert Jordan) don't read usenet groups about their stuff, join lists like this one, etc. (The other main factor being time). Having people say that they thought up the idea of having Skandranon get caught in a messed-up Gate and end up on Discworld as the Octarine Gryphon and there! here's proof of it now give me my money isn't fun. They were gonna, iirc, make a t-shirt, and then they disappeared. Or we lost interest. I think I was a member, actually. Also, the Order of Amber and Marigold is a KIND of Van fan club, since we Knights and Dames are supposed to fight the forces who say Vanyel was whiny and mopey to the death, which, imo, means we gotta be major fans of him;> Oh, little tidbit: I blanked on the word 'octarine' and spent half an hour finding it on the LSpace site;> ________________________KORENDIL-+AT+-ICUBED.NET________________________ Korendil, Knight of Amber & Marigold, One in Black, God of Night and All Things Nocturnal, (Pledged) Champion (of Lady Ele), Jester and Party Coordinator of the Clan of the Pink Wand, Terminally Cute Elfin Warrior, Fairy Godson of the Lilac Fairy, Master of Dreams, Asker Of Strange Questions To Misty, _Bower Inquirer_ Reporter. ___________________________________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Oct 1997 20:49:12 PDT From: "Raven Darkblade" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Killing Gods/ me Message-ID: <19971018034914.17369.qmail-+AT+-hotmail.com> Remmington wrote: <> Not that I recall, certainly.. and remember, Kethry and Tarma didn't even destroy Thalkarsh, who was not a god yet... that little priest just tied him up in half a dozen spells and carted him off to try and redeem him. Just from observing who comes to our reception window, I'd say that at least 80-90 percent of the violent offenders-- aggravated sex offenders and people on mandatory, intensive, and super-intensive supervision--are men. Now, this might just be that these are the people who got caught or were found guilty in court. And I definitely agree with you that most infanticides are committed by women. Can you kill a god? I've only read two books in which a god is killed. One is a Moorcock book (IIRC. I read it a long time ago), in which the hero (Corum) fights the god and killed him (IIRC again). I don't like this one. If a god can be killed just like killing a human being, then that god doesn't deserve to be called a god. The other one is Rose of the Prophet trilogy by Weis and Hickman. There are 20 gods in that world and people worship different gods. A god who has no worshippers will die. I like this one better. A power struggle like that can be very tiring and gets boring quickly. I'd rather see Hero using his wits to defeat Evil rather than his power. A hero who has that great a power to be invincible, who can defeat whatever foe thrown his way, is not believable. IMHO.
