I happen to know that my local used bookstore has at least one copy of all of the Swords and Sorceress books, so I will buy them, if someone will but me a copy of GURPS Wild Cards which has been out of print since...95 or so. If this is found, I will gladly send the copies to whoever finds it, or give you your exact purchase price PLUS shipping and handling if my local used bookstore no longer has them (but they should, cause they have every time i've gone in there). I like 'Incarnations of Immortality,' too. What turned me onto it at first was the Author's Notes. In fact, I'd just as soon have Anthony simply write a whole bunch of Author's Notes, as his fictional writing style is too cutesy for my taste. Anyway, when I was in college I'd haunt the bookstore until the new Incarnations books came out, and I'd read the Author's Notes before anything else. They were a really fascinating window into some of Anthony's life. I don't suppose Lackey could be convinced to write Author's Notes, herself? ::wistful look:: Of course, hers wouldn't be anything like Anthony's. Ah well. (g) > Piers Anthony is "cutesy"? Ok, I myself recommend all of the IofI, especially "On a Pale Horse" and "For Love of Evil" For Love of Evil is a good one, because it is about a priest who meets a succubus sent by Satan to corrupt him. She sort of succeeds, and Satan decides this mortal is messing with one of 'His" girls, so he goes to kill him and take him to Hell, but the Priest kills Satan, but is mortally wounded in the process... the succubus says, "Quickly, say 'I assume the office'" and he does. He then become Satan. It shows that there cannot be Good without Evil. I believe this is true because, if there was no "Evil" then how would we know what was"Good"? I started to read And Eternity... the last one, but I returned it to the library before I finished it (I had too many books out at that time) but I plan to read it someday. I had been waiting eagerly for the book to come out and when I read it I was dissapointed. Well when I read Polgara I wasn't expecting as much so perhaps that is why I prefered it. Anyway I read all the others after reading Polgara (I was in the mood then!) except Belgarath 'cos I'd leant it to my father. Now I've got it back and reread it (since my last mail) and I have to say it wasn't as bad aas I remembered. Buying books on the web Try the Internet bookshop (at http://www.bookshop.co.uk) for ordering from the UK or Amazon books (can't remember the url offhand I'm afraid) for ordering from the States. Sorry, not sure for the rest of the world but I'm pretty certain both places will export to anywhere. I know that for those who are not American these are perfect places for buying books not actually published anywhere else (things like a lot of Misty or MZB or any other American fantasy author actually). I got Owlflight within 2 weeks and for less than £12 inc postage etc. (not bad for a specially imported book). If, by the way, anyone wants to buy UK legal books (though why you should I don't know) the web is an excellent place as all the publishers have on-line bookstores. I haven't tried but I expect most other publishers do too so if you don't have any luck with Amazon or iBS then maybe try the publishers home pages. BTW buying books is part of my job - unfortunately they are extremely boring books! > Silentmoon wrote : > > in the winds series.. elspeth discovers magick cant be discussed b/c of > a spell that van put in place. now i just finished the LHM series.. and > nowhere in there does he set that spell in place.. he does set stefen on > the mission of bolstering the heralds opinions of themselves. does the > spell get set in another book? > I thought I remembered that in the Winds series Elspeth asked Van about the fact that they couldn't talk about magic in Valdemar and he said something like "actually that was Stefan's doing" Can anyone confirm or am I misremembering? > I am a young maiden, I live in the sticks, > My parents are absent or murdered or hicks. > Unloved and unwanted, a victim from birth, > I spend my days dreaming of proving my worth. > etc Thank you. Message-ID: <01IP804AZ0PK924P8U-+AT+-delphi.com> Prince Ravnos--Hi! Yep, I've read all seven of the Incarnations books. I liked every one of them, and have a hard time deciding which is my favorite. I think _Bearing An Hourglass_ is. And my favorite cover of them all is the one for _Being A Green Mother_. Unfortunately, that is the last one Michael Whelan did. The last two were done by someone else, and I don't like them as much. I haven't read it yet, but I'm just wonderin'. Cya! Hey all, Now that my fingers have had time to thaw out from my last input, I thought I should respond. I haven't read the Incarnations books, but I love his Xanth books. They are all really funny adn the characters are great. But be warned to those of you who have never read them and are thinking about it, the things are packed full of puns, good and bad, so you have to have a high tolerance. However, the way Anthony writes them in, you don't really notice them until they have influenced what somebody was doing. As an example, in the first one I read, there was a blackjack bush. The leaves were shaped like, what else, diamonds, hearts, clubs, and spades. And then on top of that, he took another meaning of it and had the thing strike out at whatever was near it. Oh, and anything you can think of either grows on trees or are trees. But, anyway, I guess that's enough digressing.
