There all like hethens or something, most of them have never even heard of Mercedes Lackey much less read anything by her, or Anne McCaffery for that matter. It boggles them how I can sit down and disregard all else for the equivalent of a day while I start and finish _By the Sword_. It seems like some people have never read a good book in their life. They don't seem to know what it is like to get so wrapped up in a story that you don't want to do anything else except see what happens next. Am I alone in this? Oh, well. Lots of Luck, Rehtaeh I agree compleatly. Even my best freind thinks i read WAY to much. I carrry books around like a two year old carries their securiy blanket. To me the caracters in books seem almost real. I suspend my beilief in the "Real World" for a while and the book becomes my world. As far as there is no such thing as a bad book. My freinds get mad at me for using long words , when I not using any thing I would call out of the ordinary,. I pick up Enough voulcabulary to sink a ship from books. Of course if i spoke to people more and un poked my nose from my books more , I might actully get to useee it! ************************************************************ "When the last individual of a race of living beings breathes no more, another hevean and another earth must pass before such a one can be again" W.Beebe ____________________________________________________________ He who dies with the most toys is still dead ____________________________________________________________ Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most! ************************************************************ Megan, Knight of Fluff by Decree of Yvonne Shadowshape ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Oct 1997 23:00:45 PST From: "Gwyn'he'far shena Tale'sedrin" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Joan of Arc - History no misty Message-ID: <19971101070045.20457.qmail-+AT+-hotmail.com> >Actually, at one point, there were three "papal" courts and three >popes. Oh, well. > No you are not alone in loving to read. i do think you may be a little harsh in saying that the majority of American University students don't like to read, especially not sci-fi/fantasy. I think it 1) depends on the university, and 2) depends on the people you hang out with within that university. I came to the University of Wisconsin-Madison last year, and since then I have met an inordinate amount of fans of Misty and McCaffrey and the rest. I've figured out why this is. First off, Madison tends to attract free thinkers because of its really liberal reputation. Secondly, I immediately started playing a live-action Vampire game that was a registered student organization called Madison by Night. all of those people were gamers and Sci-fi/Fantasy fans who definately understood. Thirdly, I joined the SCA. If you want to find Misty fans, that's as good a place to go as any. The readers were there, they were just hiding. I also find that I meet people like me through more mundane things like choir and theatre. Of course, there is a flip side to this too. My apartment building is a block off frat row, and I can virtually guarantee you that most of the people living there don't pick up a book often because they would have to put down their beer. Given that, I suppose I see your point. In any case, we on the list definately understand your ability to read that much in a day. Every year my family goes on vacation to the Northwoods of WI. I do outdoors stuff like canoeing and water-skiing, but mostly I read. During the school year, I don't have nearly enough time to read stuff I want to read. For instance, I have been thirty pages from the end of Owlflight for four days now, and it's driving me insane. I just haven't had the time to sit down and finish it, much less savour it. Excuse me, but a student of a 'black-clad spirit types' does NOT have to be dead!! that is the whole point of the idee to become a 'spirit'! this is also explained in The oathbound. ofcource I could've misundestood either you or the book, i'm kinda tyred after a night on the students-party-zone in Holland (which are great wild paty's btw) actually: I'm non too sober right now (like how Van feels after a bottle or wine... I used to read sixty or seventy books a week, and even though I would sometimes get a headache the need to read would be overwhelming. What's especially annoying to me and what other people don't understand is my need to get the store as soon as the next book in a series comes out. I can't wait to go and get it and since I don't have a car it's really annoying when no one can take five minutes for me to go and get the book which by that point is screaming my name. I am glad to find that others enjoy reading to the extent I do........Thanks for listening to me ramble..
