I'm 33, happily married to a wonderful man named Mark, and my main big fandom interest has been Pern since 1985. My friend Cheryl, who used to work at American Airlines, told me that a friend of hers there had written a book, and I should get a copy, since it was really good. It was _Arrows_. I fell in love, and have bought most of Lackey's books since. I went to school at the University of Houston, majoring in Journalism, and I now work for the Texas Dept. of Criminal Justice in one of our Houston parole offices. I'm part of something we call the Day Resource Center, in which I work closely with parolees who are on intensive supervision. This means they must be seen by their officer once a week. DRC's goal is to attempt rehabilitation by offering various types of counseling, all located at the parole office, instead of spread out all over town. I am presently teaching English grammar in an Adult Basic Education/GED prep class each week at work. I love it! I only wish we could do more. Aside from Valdemar and Pern, I am in Sime/Gen fandom and Darkover fandom. My favorite TV shows are Babylon 5, all varieties of Star Trek, ER, Quincy, Mission: Impossible, PBS Sherlock Holmes, The Prisoner, Robin of Sherwood, The Operation (on TLC), and Quantum Leap. I like to read all sorts of stuff. It's weird, but I find myself more drawn to non-fiction lately than to fiction. I read anything by Oliver Sacks and Richard M. Restak. I like to read about medicine, trauma treatment, surgery, and neurology in general. For fiction, besides the books I've already mentioned, I've enjoyed (well, kinda) Susan Matthews' _An Exchange of Hostages_. Other books I really like--Piers Anthony's "Incarnations of Immortality" books, Spider Robinson's Callahan books, Zenna Henderson's books/stories about The People, and anything by Sylvia Louise Engdahl. I also like historical mysteries. My favorite authors are Anne Perry and Ellis Peters. My most favorite book of all is called _The Cloud of Unknowing_. I like to do medieval dancing in the SCA, and I sing and play the piano (and believe me, singing the piano is a real challenge...). Two axioms that I follow: 'Believe in yourself--Do something you love,' and 'Ivanova is God.' (yes the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame city, and home to the infamous Cleveland Indians!) I don't feel like I'm 42, and also don't look like I am. (the other day they ask me if I was old enough when I was bying beer.) I said I'm twice as old as you need to be! I have a husband, a 15 yr old son, and an 18 yr old stepson and a 20 yr old step daughter. I have a degree in Commercial Art, and am currently working in the Marketing field. I love art, and beautiful things. I have a collection of fanasy, and victorian style art, along with my sci/fi parraphanilia. (I know, those seem like oxi-morons, but I'm well rounded!) I used to be a custom picture framer, which I loved, and when my shop went out of business, I started my own shop in my basement. I like jazz and new-age music. I started reading fanasy about 5 years ago. Before that, I read mostly sci-fi (Arthur C. Clark) and mysteries. I started reading about and researching King Arthur, and consider myself a semi-Arthurian. I have two of them, and someday will have more when my Skycloud (Sky for short) has her first litter. (My husband will not be happy when this happens, he is a dog person) But he has his dog, Rascal, to keep him company, and he tolerates my cats. We have had at some point, just about every creature you can imagine: fish, mice gerbils, hamsters, anoles (like little chameleons), parakeets, finches. But alas, no horses. Maybe someday? Anyway, I am reading SW, and just read the part about the firecats of Karse. It sounded like they were discribing my cat Sky. She is part siamese, so is tan and black, with blue eyes. (my very own companion!) Her mother Sheena is a calico, and looks like a tiger. Chantal wrote: ***All Very popular with me. Especially Babylon 5, and The Prisoner. I am 12 yrs old and female (my birthday was yesterday and no one noticed) and I am a 7th grade student in Whitefish Bay Middle School in Wisconsin. My first Misty was in Barnes & Noble and my dad wanted me to get a book I never read before so he picked up BGryphon. I grumbled and grouched but then I gave in. After I read it, I proceeded to reserve a million Misty books from the library and read about 3 books a day. Right now I am trying to stave off reading Misty books for a while so I (Havens forbid!) don't get bored of her. My friend Erin is also a Misty reader and my only friend who reads Misty other than you guys. I also have 2 dogs and 2 rabbits(used to be 12) I love animals. Ummm I am going to get my Ph.d. hopefully!!! I love History but not American history just European and well anything that is not American. It was shoved down my throat too much in High School. So I really love languages so I wish Misty would develop her languages a little farther then she has. I love the exotic so I also wish she would have more pics in her books. If I had all the money in the world I'd buy a huge piece of that kinda of country where the grass is so very green and it snows in the winter. You know the type of place all rolling hills and fertile valleys. I'd stock it with horses (of course), lots of cats and dogs and I'd set up a injured animal hospital where I'd take care of all those wild birds who can't take care of themselves because they broke that keel bone like Hylarr in Winds. I'd have a huge Victorian style house. Inside I'd have one of those two storied libraries with those ladders so you can reach all the books and the shelves would be filled with every good fantasy or historical novel ever written. Other rooms would be filled with other stuff like beautiful clothes, a music studio where I could butcher my favorite songs with my horrid voice and nobody could make me stop or just listen or maybe play my clarinet or the piano if I start lessons again. Then I'd have a study where I could attempt to write my own novel. I'd have all my Misty books on file on a computer so I could take a break and gather inspiration without trekking to the library. My days would be spent reading, riding and inviting my friends to my own private theme park. Filled with rollercoasters and maybe one of those love tunnel things for when I find that special someone. Well I'm done now. Sorry for being longwinded but I have very elaborate dreams. Hey any members on aol email me if you want to set up a Misty chat in one of aols private chat rooms. Was a reason ever given for why he was acting so cuckoo? > > Anddoes anyone know why he switched from wanting to kill Karal > >toprotecting him? See, they explain this stuff about Firesong going weird in the 2nd Storms. Although Silverfox said that he came to Haven as a representative of the Kaled'a'in, the most important reason was to see how Firesong was doing. After the Cataclysm, some mages started going, well, crazy and it took k'Leshya a long time to figure out why. Firesong is a Healer-Adept whose job is to heal the land and is tied into the the land like people with the earth sense (think Daren in BtS and Tremane in the last storms). So, the land is being REALLY messed up by the storms, almost going demented, and this feeds back into Firesong and makes him weird. Of course, it was Firesong's fault too because his jelousy and obsession with lifebond-finding fed into that dementia. He even wanted to do what Mornelithe did and use Mornelithe's little hidaway. Silverfox helped Firesong get over that though and Firesong was normal (if Firesong can ever be called normal again). Also, I just wanted to say that in SWarning Firesong shows more of himself, instead of that flippant mask he has for everyone. My wayward mouth needs to rest now, so zhai'helleva my friends! I READ whenever I get a spare minute or two, and keep all my books---have over 1000 of the darn things. (Just bought 5 more yesterday, too.) I first read Misty about 10 years ago, and have read all but the SERRAted Edge stories. My 'dream' is to have enough $$ to take a trip around the world before I'm too old, but I'm not holding my breath. I will listen to most every kind of music except jazz/blues, gregorian chants, and rap---am collecting more Irish stuff than anything else lately, as youngest daughter step-dances, a la "Riverdance", "Lord of the Dance", you know---sweet, modest Michael Flatley! I'm a 42 year old batchelor living in Hermiston Oregon, the "Watermelon captial of the World" (at least that was the claim to fame back in 70 when my family first moved here) Currently were in the mist of a mini boom - Wally World (Walmart) is building thier Northwest distribution center outside of town. The state is building another prision here (the other is 30 miles away. Interesting how the majority of the crimes are committed 200 miles away NIMBY is all the rage in the Willamette Valley. Uncle Sam as begun the process of building the incinerator to destroy the Nerve Gas stored about 10 miles upwind of the town. Something long, long overdue. If you want more details email me privately - I will be happy to talk about it. Anyway all told we are probably looking at 1,000+ jobs opening up in the next year or so. When your town has a population of 10,000 and it is one of the "big" towns you gotta figure folks will be moving in. Current residents of my household consist of one tax zombie and one female lab/? mix with the moniker of Loki - which she does her best to live up to. I can't honestly say when I picked up my first misty book, however I have managed to wear out two SFBC copies of the LHM trilogy so its been a while. I feel that LHM is her best to date. I use the moniker tax zombie as I am a Licensed Tax Consultant and an Enrolled Agent. Between the end of January and mid April I average a 70+ hour week. Hence tax zombie. Now that I have bored you all to tears I will bid you ado and put this zombie to rest for a while. Take care all.
